Joe Farrell needs no introduction to the marine salvage community or, for that matter, MarineNews readers. Originally from the Boston, Mass., area, he began by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard, eventually attending the U.S. Navy diver school, becoming a ship’s diver. After two years at sea and diving in Arctic waters, he volunteered for service and became an explosives advisor, offloading ammunition ships in Vietnam. Eventually, Farrell became a civilian diver at the U.S.

Resolve Marine Group Acquires Magone Marine Services

Resolve Marine Group, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has agreed to acquire Magone Marine Services of Western Alaska. Resolve Expands European Presence

Resolve Salvage & Fire (Europe), Ltd., the European emergency response subsidiary of U.S.- based Resolve Marine Group, Inc., has added a new office at 23, Austin Friars, London, expanding the company’s U.K. operations base. The 34-year-old marine salvage, emergency response and wreck removal company has been steadily expanding, both geographically and in its service offerings for the international maritime industry. Joining the new London office is Daniel Dettor, a Commercial Manager formerly based at Resolve’s corporate headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Resolve and FDNY Sign Fire Response Agreement

Resolve Fire and Salvage signed an agreement with Fire Department New York (FDNY) last week, allowing the vast resources of the FDNY to be included in Resolve’s network of first responders that are available to vessel owners and operators, under the OPA90 Salvage & Marine Firefighting (SMFF) requirements. “FDNY has an excellent marine division that already responds first to marine incidents. This agreement simply formalizes FDNY’s role in the Vessel Response Plan (VRP), as a fellow marine firefighting responder, under the OPA90 SMFF regulations.

Resolve Maritime Academy Joins ECDIS Training Network

Resolve Maritime Academy has joined the Transas Global ECDIS Training Network, known as Get-Net. The Academy recently expanded its Fort Lauderdale, Florida training facilities, adding a second ECDIS classroom with Transas simulation software and Transas ECDIS to meet the high demand for Generic and Type-Specific ECDIS training. The training partnership with Transas allows Resolve Maritime Academy to comply with all Flag State, Port State Control and Classification Society requirements and to better serve its global client base, in time for the new ECDIS training requirement deadlines.

Resolve Maritime Academy Joins Training Network

Resolve Maritime Academy became the first major training center in the USA to join the Transas Global ECDIS Training Network GET-Net. Resolve Maritime Academy, LLC is a subsidiary of Resolve Marine Group, Inc. a  leader in emergency response and vessel salvage. Joining the Global GET-Net ECDIS training network, represents another step in Resolve Maritime Academy’s recent expansion of programs and offerings, and follows the extensive implementation of full mission and classroom simulators from Transas at their 17th Street facility in Fort Lauderdale, during 2011 and 2012. Although offering specific capabilities aimed at the Cruise Industry, the simulators are designed with the flexibility to be utilized for training applications across a wide spectrum of maritime users.

Resolve Completes Federalized Wreck Removal

Following six weeks of intensive operations RESOLVE Salvage & Fire announce removal of 600 tons of steel from the bow section of the Rena wreck off Tauranga, New Zealand. RESOLVE has been removing the wreck piece by piece using helicopters and a transport barge at a safe distance from the reef. Due to the precarious position of the wreck’s bow on the Astrolabe Reef, and the nationwide concern in New Zealand over the potential for additional damage to the reef during salvage operations, RESOLVE’s methodology using helicopters was chosen from a number of other proposals.

Resolve Engineering Announces Launches of Two New Vessels

RESOLVE Engineering Group, LLC has announced the launch of two of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm’s latest design and construction support jobs. The American Phoenix, a 616’ x 105’ chemical tanker was built by BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, Alabama for owner Mid-Ocean Tanker Company LLC of South Norwalk, CT. RESOLVE provided construction support for the owner during final outfitting and completion of the American Phoenix 49,000 DWT Tanker which is the largest vessel ever built in Alabama.

Shanghai Resolve-Shengmin OSRO Company, Ltd. (SRSOC), a  Level 1 Ship Pollution Response Organization (SPRO), has introduced its wide network of Ship Pollution Response Organization (SPRO) partners throughout China. Known as "One Call", the consortium can now arrange China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) certified Level 1 SPRO coverage for ships calling in any coastal port in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Since January 2012, SRSOC has offered statutorily required ship pollution response readiness in Shanghai and most China ports.

Resolve Salvage Removes Ten Vessel Wrecks in Sri Lanka

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Resolve Marine Group Inc. and its  Resolve Salvage & Fire (Asia) Pte Ltd. subsidiary have announced that wreck removal operations at Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbor in northern Sri Lanka have been completed. Retained by the Government of India/Shipping Corporation of India, and working on site in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Navy since June, 2011, Resolve crews undertook the mapping, removal and disposition of ten vessels, which were sunk during the LTTE conflict between 1994 and 2000. The wrecks, lying outside and within the port, had obstructed safe navigation in the area and effectively prevented commercial shipping activity since that time.

Resolve Maritime Academy (Academy) opened its new Simulation Training Center on Monday, March 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA facility adjacent to Port Everglades. The state-of-the-art, 7000-square-foot facility will provide leading edge simulation-based training programs to enhance safe navigation at sea for cruise line and commercial shipping personnel and other maritime professionals worldwide.

Costa Calls on Salvage Companies for Ship Removal Plans

Costa Crociere has set up a technical committee, with representatives from Costa Cruises, Carnival Corporation & plc, Fincantieri, Rina and sector experts, including academics, who will work for the best possible drawing up of the plan, on a joint basis with the competent authorities. As anticipated in a letter sent to Costa Concordia Emergency Commissioner Franco Gabrielli, Costa Cruises has called for tenders 10 companies throughout the world to present a working plan to enterely remove the hull of the Costa Concordia. Resolve Refloats San Juan Dry Dock

RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. successfully refloated the Perseverance dry dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 27. The dry dock sank on September 29 during maintenance/refit operations. During the sinking, the dry dock’s internal pumping system became inoperable due to flooding of the dock’s control station. Also, internal damage sustained during the sinking event made several of the internal compartments common, degrading the stability of the dry dock. RESOLVE was engaged to assess the casualty, and plan and execute the refloating operation.

RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. (RESOLVE) has acquired the staff and assets of the Elliott Bay Design Group’s (EBDG) New Orleans, Louisiana office. The addition of former EBDG personnel in New Orleans expands  RESOLVE’s in-house engineering team, creating a new company and wholly owned subsidiary  RESOLVE Engineering Group, LLC. Indian Government Chooses RESOLVE for Salvage and Dredging Operation

Following an agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Sri Lanka, RESOLVE Salvage and Fire (Asia) Pte Ltd.,  a subsidiary of American-based RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc., has commenced the removal of six vessel wrecks that were sunk  in Kankesanthurai Harbor (KKS) between 1994 and 1996 during the LTTE  conflict. Situated on the northern coast of Sri Lanka, the harbor was badly damaged in the conflict and has since been closed. The Government of India (GOI) has taken responsibility for rehabilitation of the KKS Harbor and has provided grant funding for the initial stages.

Fuel Removal from Capsized Vessel

Salvage crews from international salvage company Resolve Marine Group, Inc. have begun recovery work on the iron ore carrying vessel Black Rose which sank last month in the Bay of Bengal, India. Resolve’s team was awarded the tender by the Paradip Port Trust and will be pumping some 925 tonnes of fuel oil and 50 tonnes of diesel oil, as reported by officials, from the stricken ship which sank with the loss of one life 5km off the Paradip coastline on September 9. Resolve Completes Black Rose Fuel Removal

Salvage crews from international salvage company Resolve Marine Group, Inc. have completed recovery work (11/15/2009) on the Black Rose, an iron ore carrying vessel which sank two months ago in the Bay of Bengal, India. Initially awarding the job to Resolve, the Paradip Port Trust has since issued Resolve a certificate of completion stating that, following the removal of well over 900 tonnes of contaminated fuel oil, the vessel has been cleared to their satisfaction.
