Mauritius Stops Norwegian Cruise Line Ship from Docking, Cites Health Risk
Mauritius stopped a ship belonging to Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings from docking at its ports due to what it said was a health risk and took samples from about 15 passengers who were in isolation on board, its port authority said on Sunday.The Norwegian Dawn had been scheduled to dock in Port Louis on Sunday, but since it had not gone to Reunion Island, it arrived in Port Louis a day earlier, the Mauritius Ports Authority said in a statement."The decision not to allow the cruise ship access to the quay was taken in order to avoid any health risks…

CMA CGM Modifies its Midas and Swahili Services
CMA CGM has announced the strengthening of its current MIDAS service by cooperating with PIL under a new Vessel Sharing Agreement. A fleet of 11 vessels of 3,500 TEU nominal capacity will be deployed, and CMA CGM will contribute to the majority with 9 vessels. It also announced the strengthening of its coverage of India on its SWAHILI EXPRESS service deployed on the India Middle East Gulf - Eastern Africa and Indian Ocean route. In India, MIDAS will extend its coverage with a weekly call at Nhava Sheva direct to West Africa, South Africa and Reunion Island in addition to the present Mundra call. Luanda is reached from India in 22 days, Pointe Noire in 25 days, Apapa in 30 days and Cotonou in 31 days.

CMA CGM presented its new strengthened services offer linking the Reunion Island during the inauguration of the Group’s new offices, on Tuesday 26th January. The event took place the day before the inauguration of the New Port Reunion. The Reunion Island now becomes CMA CGM Group’s maritime hub in the Indian Ocean. CMA CGM positions the Reunion Island as a strategic hub in the Indian Ocean: by offering 5 weekly calls compared to 3 previously, the Group links Reunion Island with Europe, Australia, Asia, India, East Africa, West Africa and South Africa. The weekly NEMO service now allows direct links between Europe, the Reunion Island and Australia.
Malaysia Confirms Debris is from Missing MH370
Malaysia confirmed early on Thursday that a piece of a wing washed up on an Indian Ocean island beach last week was from Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, the first trace of the plane found since it vanished last year with 239 people on board. "Today, 515 days since the plane disappeared, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that an international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370," Prime Minister Najib Razak said in an early morning televised address. "I would like to assure all those affected by this tragedy that the government of Malaysia is committed to do everything within our means to find out the truth of what happened," Najib said.
CMA CGM Continues Expansion, Confirms Profits
The Board of Directors of CMA CGM Group, the world’s third largest container shipping company, met under the chairmanship of Jacques R. Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, to review the financial statements for the second quarter of 2014. In the second quarter, in a market environment shaped by diverging developments in different regions, CMA CGM reported its consolidated revenue amounted to $4.2 billion, up 3.7% year-on-year, volumes carried increased by 8% to 3.1 million TEUs, and average revenue per TEU decreased by 3.9% over the period.
Port Réunion to Become Strategic Maritime Hub
The CMA CGM Group announced Rodolphe Saadé, Vice-Chairman, was with President Hollande to Reunion Island to lay the cornerstone for the future Port of Reunion Island. During the ceremony, Rodolphe Saadé signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at making Port Réunion the CMA CGM Group maritime hub in the Indian Ocean within 12 to 18 months. By choosing Port Réunion for its new hub, CMA CGM gives the port a new dimension, not only as a strategic center, where maritime lines from Europe, Africa and Asia intersect, but also as a key element in the CMA CGM Group’s development in Africa, where it already has a strong presence. Cargo from all over the world will be unloaded on the island, before being loaded towards new destinations.
