Admiral's Thoughts on the LCS Program

The Director, Navy Staff, Vice-Adm. Richard W. Hunt, recommends the LCS council continue, looks to program future. In a recent memo to the Chief of Naval Operations , the Director, Navy Staff, Vice Adm. Richard W. Hunt provided an update on the progress of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Council and outlined the council’s way ahead, including a recommendation that the council remain in place to monitor and provide oversight of the LCS program. “We are demonstrating an improved product on an almost weekly basis as we move forward with this.

Navy to Commission LPD 22 – 'USS San Diego'

The Navy will commission the newest San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship San Diego during a 10 a.m. PDT ceremony Saturday, May 19, 2012, in San Diego, Calif. The ship is named for the city of San Diego, principal homeport of the Pacific fleet, and honors the people of "America's Finest City" and its leaders for their continuous support of the military. Three previous ships have carried the name San Diego -- the armored cruiser named in 1914, the World War II-era cruiser commissioned in 1942 and the combat stores ship commissioned in 1969. Adm.

Newest U.S. Navy Logistics Ship Launched

USNS Matthew Perry, which will be the newest ship in the U.S. Navy's Lewis and Clark-class of dry cargo/ammunition ships, was christened and launched Aug.16, during a late afternoon ceremony at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego. SECDEF Announces Flag Officer Assignments

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Navy Rear Adm. Jeffrey L. Fowler has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as superintendent, U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. Fowler is currently serving as director, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Sixth Fleet, plans and operations/deputy commander, Sixth Fleet/commander Submarines, Allied Naval Forces South/commander, Submarine Group Eight/CTF 69/CTF 164, Naples, Italy. Navy Rear Adm. Samuel J. Locklear III has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as commander, Third Fleet, San Diego, Calif.
