MSC to Acquire Towage Operator Rimorchiatori Mediterranei

Swiss-headquartered shipping giant MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA continues to expand with an agreement to acquire towage provider Rimorchiatori Mediterranei.The company announced Sunday a deal through its wholly owned subsidiary SAS Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl to acquire 100% of the share capital of Rimorchiatori Mediterranei S.p.A. from Rimorchiatori Riuniti and a fund managed by DWS’s Infrastructure Investment business.Completion remains subject to the receipt of approvals…

Rimorchiatori Mediterranei Buys Keppel Smit Towage and Maju Maritime

Dutch marine services firm Boskalis and its co-shareholder KS Investments Pte. Ltd. (Keppel) have completed the sale of their equity stakes in their harbor towage activities in Singapore and Malaysia - Keppel Smit Towage Pte Ltd and Maju Maritime Pte Ltd - to Rimorchiatori Mediterranei.Boskalis received EUR 92 million in cash for its 49% equity stake in the joint ventures resulting in a pre tax book gain of approximately EUR 50 million. Keppel Smit Towage (KST) was established in 1991 as a joint venture between Keppel and SMIT, a subsidiary of Boskalis. Over the past thirty years, Boskalis said, KST/Maju has developed into one of the largest and leading providers of harbor towage services in Southeast Asia.

Retrofitted Pair to Be First Tier III Tugs in Italian Ports

Sanmar Shipyards said it has signed a contract to deliver two cleaner and greener versions of its Bogacay series of tugs to Sicily-based operator Rimorchiatori Augusta Srl. BOGACAY LII and BOGACY LIV have been refurbished and their propulsion systems upgraded using the latest technology to make them IMO Tier III emissions compliant. They will be delivered to Augusta Port in Sicily towards the end of 2022.The 24.4m x 12m x 5.45m sister tugs will be powered by two Caterpillar CAT 3512E C rating main engines…

Genoa, Italy based Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group took delivery in February of a modified version of Robert Allan Ltd.'s TRAktor 2500-SX standard design from Turkih builder Sanmar Shipyards.The addition of Italia, a modern Z-drive tractor to their fleet could potentially signal a renewed interest in Z-drive tractor tugs for the group.Robert Allan Ltd. and Sanmar Shipyards worked with Rimorchiatori Riuniti to modify the design to suit the owner's requirements. Sanmar Sells Delicay VI to Rimorchiatori

Italian JV GMC Acquires Zouros

Second Damen ASD Tug for Rimorchiatori

Damen Shipyards Group  signed a contract with Rimorchiatori Mediterranei, a subsidiary of Rimorchiatori Riuniti of Genoa, Italy, for a Damen ASD Tug 2810. The vessel will be operated in Sicily by Rimorchiatori Augusta and is due for delivery in December this year sailing on her own keel from Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam.The new vessel, to be named Capo Peloro after one of Sicily’s major capes near Messina, will be the second Damen ASD Tug 2810 to join the Rimorchiatori Mediterranei fleet. The first was the Capo Boeo, which arrived in Sicily in December 2016.

Sanmar Wins Tug Order

SENER-design LNG unit for Panfido

SENER signed a contract with the owner Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido & C.s.r.l for delivering the basic engineering and technical assistance in the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) SBBT unit, which will operate in Italy and the Adriatic. Panfido is one of the most important tug and barge owners in Europe, with 130 years of experience in marine services. This project is co-funded by the European Union through the Poseidon MED II program.The SBBT unit’s design is a combination of a LNG fueled tractor tug (powered unit) and a LNG bunkering non-propelled pontoon of 4,000 cu.

Tug Malta’s New Tug Named

St. On Friday, February 9, Tug Malta’s Damen ASD 2913 was named St. Angelo at a ceremony attended by the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat, and the island nation’s Minister of Transport, Ian Borg. Acting as sponsor of the vessel was Mrs. Michelle Muscat, the wife of the Prime Minister. Tug Malta is part of the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group. The ceremony was also attended by Tug Malta Chairman John E. Sullivan and CEO Mario Mizzi, Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group Chiefs Giovanni Delle Piane and Gregorio Gavarone and Damen Sales Manager Antonio Marte.

Two New Tugs for Rimorchiatori Riuniti

Italian tug operator Rimorchiatori Riuniti has continued its fleet expansion with the deliveries of two new Damen tugs; an ASD 2913 called Danimarca and an ASD 2411 called Columbia. The delivery of the Danimarca took place in Genoa on June 14, 2017. This new tug will join the ASD 2913 Germania that joined the company’s fleet at the beginning of the year. Like her sister vessel, the Danimarca has also been installed with FiFi 1 and an aft winch, in addition to oil recovery and escort capabilities.

Wärtsilä Launches HY Hybrid Power Module

Leveraging its technical strengths in both engine design and electrical and automation (E&A) systems, Wärtsilä is launching a fully integrated hybrid power module combining engines, an energy storage system and power electronics optimized to work together through a newly developed energy management system (EMS). The Wärtsilä HY is the marine sector's first hybrid power module of this type, officially launched at the Nor-Shipping conference and exhibition in Oslo, Norway from May 30 to June 2, 2017.

Another Tug for Rimorchiatori Riuniti

Rimorchiatori Riuniti has taken delivery of a Damen ASD 2913. The new vessel – named Germania – was handed over to the Italian tug operator last week from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The delivery follows Rimorchiatori Riuniti’s order for a second, identical vessel; the contract for which was also finalized at the end of December. Rimorchiatori Augusta Acquires Damen ASD Tug 2810

Damen Shipyards Group recently delivered an ASD Tug 2810 to Rimorchiatori Augusta. The vessel, named Capo Boeo, is operating in the Sicilian Port of Augusta. Rimorchiatori Augusta is a new venture for the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group and this is the first new vessel for the company, demonstrating its commitment to future operations in the port. Capo Boeo arrived in Sicily on 2 December having sailed on her own keel from Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. The client selected Damen due to requiring a fast delivery time for their vessel. Damen’s Vietnam yard is able to guarantee that thanks to its serial production. The state-of-the-art shipyard fulfils the Damen philosophy of series production, producing 40 standard Damen tugs per year up to 60 metres in length.

Rimorchiatori Augusta Orders Damen ASD Tug

Rimorchiatori Augusta and Damen Shipyards Group have recently signed a contract for an ASD 2810 tug for operations in the Sicilian port of Augusta. Rimorchiatori Augusta is a new venture for the Rimorchiatori Riuniti group and this will be the first new vessel for the company, demonstrating its commitment to future operations in the port. Rimorchiatori Augusta was formed following the purchase by Rimorchiatori Riuniti of Augustea Imprese Marittime and Salvataggi S.p.A. together with its fleet of 16 vessels.

Rimorchiatori Riuniti Orders Damen ASD Tugs

Italian tug operator Rimorchiatori Riuniti has recently placed an order with the Damen Shipyards Group for two ASD Tugs 2913. Rimorchiatori Riuniti operates more than 100 vessels across a range of maritime sectors, including harbor towage and offshore. Amongst the company’s fleet are a number of Damen vessels. The most recent Damen vessel to join the Rimorchiatori Riuniti  fleet was an ASD Tug 2411, delivered to the client in September 2014. This was the company’s third Damen vessel, making the ASD Tugs 2913 numbers four and five respectively.

Damen Delivers ASD Tug in Italy

RimorchiatoriRiunitiS.p.A. of Genoa (Italy) has taken delivery of a Damen ASD Tug 2411. The 70-metric-ton bollard pull azimuth stern drive tug will be temporarily deployed by Tug Malta Ltd., a full subsidiary of the Genovese towage company. Named Malta, the tug was officially delivered to Gregorio Gavarone, Managing Director of RimorchiatoriRiuniti. The transfer took place in Malta. Initially flying the Maltese flag, the 24.5-meter ASD 2411 will temporarily be prospecting for work in the Mediterranean under the auspices of Tug Malta. Rimorchiatori Riuniti bolsters Porto di Genova fleet with another Robert Allan Ltd. Rimorchiatori Riuniti currently operates five Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs in its Porto di Genova fleet, including two AVT 2700 harbor escort tugs (Svezia and Inghilterra), one AVT 3600 offshore towing and escort tug (Messico) and two RAmparts 2,400W ASD harbor tugs (Norvegia and Spagna). The company has recently bolstered its Genova fleet with a new RAmparts 2400SX, 70 metric tons bollard pull tug, built by Sanmar Shipyard in Turkey.

Sanmar Delivers Two ASD Tugs

Two new Sanmar Bogacay Class ASD tugs, both second vessels of their power range are delivered to their owners. Rimorchiatori Riuniti took delivery in Genoa, Italy, of RR Turchia (Bogacay 702), a Bogacay Class 70 tonne bollard pull ASD built in Sanmar’s state-of-the-art shipyard at Tuzla, Turkey. Although the vessel was completed in under three months from the date of order, the origins of the class go back to the builder’s earlier discussions with the Italian customer and designer Robert Allan Ltd with the express intent of meeting that owner’s specific needs.

So far two BoÄźaçay series RAmparts 2400SX tugs have been delivered. The 'Bogacay I' was delivered to new owners Gemport in Turkey and renamed Zeycan Y. The second hull of the series, 'Bogacay II' has entered into service in Sanmar’s fleet. In late 2011, Sanmar A.S. contracted with Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, B.C., Canada to provide a design for a new tug series to add to Sanmar’s expanding product portfolio. New RAmparts 3000W Class Tug from Robert Allan

In November 2011, Tug Malta Limited, a subsidiary of Rimorchiatori Riuniti of Genoa, Italy, took delivery of the tug St Elmo, the latest RAmparts 3000W Class tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada. The vessel was built by Astilleros Zamakona of Spain in their Pasaia Shipyard. The tug will be based in Malta and brings Tug Malta's fleet to a total of eight tugs. This additional new vessel further modernizes the fleet after the recent delivery of the Robert Allan Ltd. designed Voith tractor Spinola in July 2009.
