Polsteam Gets $175mln for 34 Bulkers

Bank syndicate led by DVB Bank SE completed a $175 million financing of a 34 Bulk Carrier portfolio for Polsteam Group.Polska Żegluga Morska known as Polsteam or PŻM, is a cargo ship operator based in Szczecin, Poland. It has one of the largest route networks in the world, offering services to around 60 countries.The syndicate consisted of DVB Bank, CIT Group, Société Générale, BNP Paribas, Siemens Bank, Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank and Crédit Agricole Bank Polsk.No further details on the transaction have been revealed.DVB Bank SE, headquartered in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, specialises on the international Transport Finance business.

MSC to Introduce Global Fuel Surcharge

Improving the environmental performance of the container shipping supply chain is a common goal shared by shipping lines, shippers, freight forwarders and non-vessel operating common carriers, as well as governments, regulators, and the public around the world.The UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) requires that from 1 January 2020, Sulphur content in the fuel used for international shipping must be limited globally to 0.5%, compared with the current standard of 3.5%, in order to minimize emissions of Sulphur oxides from ships.MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company said in a press statement that its operating costs are expected to increase significantly as "we continue to prepare for the 2020 low-Sulphur fuel regime.

DFDS Orders New Freight Ferry

DFDS has exercised an option to order an additional freight ferry (ro-ro) newbuilding from the Chinese Jinling Shipyard.Similar to the five previously ordered large capacity freight ferries, the newbuilding is designed to carry 6,700 lane meters of freight equivalent to around 450 trailers.The new ferries will increase DFDS’ operational efficiency in the route networks in northern Europe and the Mediterranean.The first two new ferries are expected to be received in the beginning of next year…

Optimarin Racing toward USCG Approval

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin said it has become the first UV system supplier to meet USCG marine water requirements, positioning the Norwegian company for full USCG approval in 2016. In a series of land-based tests, both the standard MPN (regrowth) method and the more exacting FDA/CMFDA, or ‘instant kill’, benchmark were successfully assessed, the company said. Optimarin’s system utilizes UV irradiation and back-flushing filters to wipe out invasive organisms that stow away in ballast.

EU Funds Construction of BB Green Vessels

Under the 7th FRAMEWORK PROGRAM, EU is funding BB GREEN, an R&D project aiming at demonstrating feasibility of the first ever Air Supported Vessel (ASV) battery powered, fast commuter ferry. The 3 year project, initiated and coordinated by SES Europe AS (Norway), began with a kick-off meeting in Rotterdam in the end of June. Fast, efficient, zero-emission waterborne passenger transportation is the ultimate goal. The 7-partner team (consisting of SES Europe AS (Norway), SSPA Sweden (Sweden), Lloyds Register (UK). Carbonia AB (Sweden), Diab AS (Norway), Aqualiner (The Netherlands) and Amberjac Projects Ltd (UK)), will develop a low-wake wash and air-supported vessel concept…
