HMAS Toowoomba Visits Brunei
Royal Australian Navy Frigate HMAS Toowoomba has completed a port visit to Brunei, as part of a three month South East Asia deployment. HMAS Toowoomba will join Exercise Bersama Shield, a multilateral activity with the Five Power Defence Arrangement nations, in the coming weeks. HMA Ships Anzac, Toowoomba and Success are conducting a deployment to South East Asia and will participate in a series of exercises with nations in the region. Toowoomba conducted a logistic resupply, as well as local engagements with the Royal Brunei Navy and government officials. Chief of Joint Operations, Vice Admiral David Johnston, said Toowoomba’s deployment provided an opportunity to further strengthen a military to military relationship with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
INS Satpura on Overseas Deployment to Brunei
To celebrate 25 years of INDO-ASEAN Partnership, India's INS Satpura arrived at Muara Port Brunei on 25 November 17. The 4-day long visit is aimed to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations and is one among an on-going series of artistic, cultural and people-to-people events to celebrate this important milestone in the INDO-ASEAN relationship. During the visit, INS Satpura will engage with the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) in formal calls, and will have profession , social and sporting interaction in harbour. INS Satpura will also exercise with RBN Ships and will participate in Passage Exercise (PASSEX) on her departure from Brunei.
RIMPAC Underway off Hawaii
RIMPAC, the world’s largest international maritime exercise consisting of 20 plus nations and hundreds of aircraft, ships and submarines began yesterday in and around the Hawaiian Islands. The exercise will provide a unique training opportunity for fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th such exercise since 1971 and for the first time will include Brunei and China.
Ruston's RK270 Engines Power Offshore Patrol Vessels
The second of a three-part series of new Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Brunei Navy, which was launched in June 2001 at BAE Systems shipyard on the Clyde at Glasgow is powered by four MAN B&W Diesel Ruston 20 cylinder RK270 engines. Producing a total of 30,200 kWb at 1,032 rpm, the engines provide each 2,000-tons displacement vessel with speeds of more than 30 knots. Mounted in pairs, port and starboard, the engines drive their respective propellers and shafting via a flexible coupling, shaft and gearbox. The main function of these OPVs will be littoral operations, protecting Brunei's offshore oil industry and safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity.
Patriot Arrives in Brunei
Sasebo, Japan-based USS Patriot (MCM 7) arrived in Brunei for a scheduled port visit June 25, meant to enhance the relationship between the U.S. and Brunei. The visit will be highlighted by a number of social and goodwill opportunities between Patriot Sailors and the people of Brunei, including top dignitaries, members of the Royal Brunei Navy and special-needs kids. “Our primary mission here is to interact with the people of Brunei so that we can work to create a stronger mutual relationship between the United States and Brunei,” said Lt.
