SHIPPINGInsight 2015 Set for October 13-14

SHIPPINGInsight 2015 to take place October 13-14 in Stamford, Conn. The annual technical symposium, exhibition and networking event for maritime industry professionals in North America, SHIPPINGInsight 2015 Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition, will take place Oct. 13-14, 2015, in Stamford, Conn. “Now entering its fourth year, SHIPPINGInsight is the one event on the maritime calendar you can’t afford to miss,” said conference co-director Frank Soccoli. “It’s your opportunity to learn from experts and network with your peers. “SHIPPINGInsight has grown steadily in size and stature since the first conference in 2012,” said conference co-director Jim Rhodes.

SHIPPINGInsight 2014 Wraps in Stamford

More than 150 shipping industry professionals from around the world gathered this month in Stamford, Conn., for SHIPPINGInsight 2014 – a technical and ship operations forum for the maritime industry in North America. The annual SHIPPINGInsight event, held Sept. 30 – Oct. 2, encompassed three days of presentations, discussions, debates and networking. Participants represented a cross section of all sectors of the shipping industry – shipowners, ship managers, classification societies, technology suppliers, IT companies, consultants, professional service providers and others.

Shippers Must Reduce Costs, Boost Efficiency

So what’s keeping ship operators awake at night these days? Plenty, it seems. Sluggish recovery from a lingering worldwide recession, unsustainable debt loads, endemic overcapacity in most shipping trades, punishing freight rates, rising costs of fuel and regulatory compliance and a lingering sense that ships are not running as efficiently as they could. The last two topics – reducing fuel costs while complying with emission regulations and improving ship operating efficiency – will take center stage at SHIPPINGInsight 2014, scheduled for Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 in Stamford, Conn.

SHIPPINGInsight 2013 Announces Agenda and Speaker List

The SHIPPINGInsight conference producers have finalized the agenda and confirmed speaker list for the 2013 Fleet Optimization Conference, scheduled for Oct. 22-24 at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel in Stamford, Conn. “The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Connect and Engage,’” said conference co-producer Frank Soccoli. “We are bringing together an impressive lineup of speakers, moderators, panelists, sponsors, exhibitors and delegates representing all segments of the shipping industry. New for 2013 is an extra LNG Workshop, which will take the form of a roundtable discussion of experts to consider the barriers, challenges, solutions and best practices for achieving widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. The workshop is free for all registered delegates.

ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.

SUNY Maritime's 7th Annual Groundhog Day

Global Business and Transportation Department’s Cutting Edge Issues in Shipping Conference. It was a good day for New York City’s most famous groundhog, Staten Island Chuck. Groundhog Day, 2012 proved to be an even better day for the more than 150 men and women from the international shipping community, along with hundreds of SUNY Maritime College students, who  attended the 2012 SUNY Maritime College Cutting-Edge Issues in Shipping held on the SUNY Maritime College campus in Throggs Neck, the Bronx, New York City.

SUNY Hosting Free Shipping Symposium

SUNY Maritime College Presents The Annual 2012 Groundhog Day Cutting Edge Issues in Shipping Symposium. At 10:00 am,    "Cuba Oil Drilling - U.S. Contingency Planning  to respond to a pollution release impacting U.S  Waters"  will  be the topic of  a talk by Captain Francis (“Stash”) Pelkowski, USCG  and Assistant Professor, Global Business &  Transportation, SUNY Maritime College. James Maloney, Esq., SUNY Maritime graduate and maritime attorney will tackle the topic of  "Controversial Issues of Marine Insurance,” at 10:45 am.

National Maritime Day Dinner, AMVER Awards

On May 23rd at the National Press Club in Washington DC, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA)  and IHS Fairplay will be hosting a dinner to commemorate National Maritime Day, which is held on May 22nd to honor merchant mariners. At this dinner, the 2010 AMVER (Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System) Award recipients will receive recognition for their service from Congressman Frank LoBiondo, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, and Coast Guard Commandant Robert Papp. The evening begins at 6:00PM with a reception. The genesis of the Amver system ultimately finds its roots in the RMS TITANIC disaster in 1912.

Roymar Ship Management Joins Green Marine Program

Green Marine, a program aimed at improving the shipping industry’s environmental footprint, announced that New York-based Roymar Ship Management has become its newest participant. Roymar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TBS International, manages TBS' entire international fleet including 50 multipurpose vessels and bulk carriers. With a client base of approximately 300 customers in 20 countries, TBS has developed its business around key trade routes between Latin America and China, Japan and South Korea, as well as ports in North America, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East transporting steel products, project cargo, general and dry bulk cargo. Roymar, based in Scarsdale, NY, becomes the 50th company and the first major U.S.-based shipowner to join Green Marine.
