WACT to commence Phase 2 Upgrade

MGT Orders Liebherr Ship-to-Shore Cranes

Liebherr Container Cranes, manufacturer in the Republic of Ireland, and Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership (MGT) have signed a contract for the supply of four ship to shore (STS) container cranes to the Cast Container Terminal in Montreal, Canada.The cranes will be delivered in 2021, said a press note from the manufacturers of ship to shore cranes, rail mounted gantry cranes and rubber tyre gantry cranes.The cranes will easily handle the largest container vessels currently visiting the Port of Montreal and are future proofed to handle even larger vessels of up to 21 container rows across the deck. Corvus to Suppy Batteries for Hybrid Cranes

Corvus Energy, the large-scale energy storage systems (ESS) provider for marine industry, has been awarded a contract to supply batteries for new fuel-efficient hybrid port cranes to be used by a US port authority to reduce emissions, fuel costs and noise.The contract to supply Corvus Orca Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for 25 new battery-hybrid Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) cranes is with CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) and ZPMC.The battery-hybrid RTG cranes will be deployed by the South Carolina Port Authority (SCPA), where they are expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 65% compared to conventional diesel-electric port cranes.CCCCSEE will fit two sets of Corvus battery-based ESSs onto each of 25 RTG cranes manufactured by ZPMC…

APM Implements ConQuip in 38 Operations

APM Terminals Pipavav Boosts Efficiency

The implementation of a range of simple measures to streamline shift changes at APM Terminals Pipavav has reduced vessel idle times, added capacity and reduced impact on crane moves per hour due to shift change by around 16%.At the same time, it has also improved trailer driver and crane operator safety, said a press release from APM Terminals, an international container terminal operating company headquartered in The Hague.The Pipavav team has introduced clearly marked parking bays for terminal trailers, which provide a safe distance between each trailer. This provides drivers with a safe area to conduct per-operation checks and protects them from other vehicles when exiting their trailers.

Kalmar Helps Port of Long Beach to Meet Green Objectives

Kalmar's new all-electric terminal tractor is helping the Port of Long Beach (POLB) meet its eco-efficiency objectives while satisfying the commercial demands of the users of the second-busiest container seaport in the US.According to a press release from Kalmar, a part of Cargotec Corporation, POLB  in California handles trade worth in excess of $180bn from 175 shipping lines connecting to 217 seaports around the world. In 2017, more than 7.5 million container units passed through the port.US port operators are increasingly demanding more environmentally friendly machines and Californian ports have taken a lead in this respect by setting a target of having fully electric fleets by 2030.Ports present some unique environmental challenges given their frequent proximity to residential areas.

PSA Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Achieves Record Vessel Productivity

PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT) has achieved a new vessel productivity benchmark of 155 moves per hour on COSCO Shipping Lines Co Ltd’s vessel M.V. Xin Hong Kong, which departed BMCT on 30 September 2018.Together with sister vessels from service partners CMA-CGM and Hapag-Lloyd, M.V. India to Roll-out USD 156 mln Vizag Port Projects

Nitin Gadkari, Indian Minister of Shipping will inaugurate five port projects worth INR  1062 Crores (USD 156 mln ) in Vishakhapatnam today (Friday). The projects to be inaugurated include upgradation of existing iron ore handling facility at Outer Harbour of Vizag Port. This would involve modernising and upgrading the 40 year old iron ore handling facility so that it can handle larger vessels of 2 lakh DWT with loading rate of 8000 MT/hour. Capacity enhancement would be to 16.20 MTPA from 12.50 MTPA. The work was awarded to M/s.ESSAR Vizag Terminals Ltd on DBFOT basis with revenue share of 31% on 14.5.2015 is was completed on 31.5.2018. The other projects to be inaugurated include Development Berths at the inner harbour of the port and Post Panamax Quay Cranes.

Liebherr Opens African Maritime Hub

Liebherr Maritime Cranes celebrated the grand opening of the new sales and service center in Durban, South Africa. The new African maritime hub was opened by a number of guests from the local industry and Liebherr representatives. Mainly as a result of the close cooperation with Transnet over the past few years, Liebherr-Africa (LAF) has decided to extend its activities and to establish a specialized maritime hub in Durban. Transnet operates more than 60 Liebherr cranes, 13 mobile harbor cranes, 31 ship to shore container cranes and 18 rubber tyre gantry cranes.

Liebherr Simulator (LiSIM) for Operator Training

Liebherr launched LiSIM for operator training on deep foundation equipment and crawler cranes up to 300 t for the first time at Conexpo 2014 in Las Vegas (USA). The simulator is not only available as easy-to-transport containerized solution but also as classroom solution and as space-saving cab solution. Based on original software and hardware the Liebherr simulators increase both productivity and safety by providing a cost-effective and highly efficient operator training solution. Liebherr simulators help trainees to significantly improve their skills in a virtual but realistic environment. The resulting increase in skills allows for safe and productive operation in the real world. For the simulator the LB 28 rotary drilling rig and the LR 1300 crawler crane have been modelled.

Continued Success for Liebherr Cranes in Latin America

Mobile harbor cranes (LHM) once again contributed strongly to the overall success of Liebherr Maritime Cranes. The 2013 year ranks amongst the most successful ever. Various highlights characterized the year, including the remarkable order intake for the 600 series in Latin America and the launch of the Liebherr Maritime Cranes simulator range. Latin America has a clear preference for Liebherr’s largest mobile harbor crane model, type LHM 600. In the last twelve months twelve units of this model have been sold in the Latin American market.

Two LPS 600 For Efficient Bulk Handling In Gdansk

The recent installation of two LPS 600s in Poland underlines the strong demand for Liebherr’s tailor-made portal solution. Booth machines are equipped with the unique Pactronic hybrid power booster and strengthen Liebherr’s market-leading position. Two LPS 600s for dedicated bulk handling have recently been delivered and installed in the center of the southern Baltic coast. Both cranes will soon start operation in the port of Gdansk, Poland. More Liebherr RTGs for Cerescorp

Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. signed a contract for the supply of four heavy-duty twinlift Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes to Cerescorp’s Halifax Terminal in Canada. Two similar LIEBHERR units were delivered to the terminal in 2002. The RTG’s are of 8 wheel configuration, stack one over five containers high and span six containers plus a truck lane. S.W.L is 50 Tonnes under twinlift telescopic spreader. Hoist speed is 23/50m/min and trolley speed is 70m/min. Crane travel speed is 70/130m/min. Crane drives are Liebherr AC, which has been specifically developed for gantry cranes and RTG’s using the Liebherr modular concept. The Liebherr Visuscan crane management system is also included.
