Maritime AI Firm Launches Russia Sanctions Compliance Tool

A predictive intelligence company applying AI global maritime trade has launched a solution to minimize risk exposure in maritime trade as it relates to ongoing sanctions against Russia.In response to the recent Russian invasion into Ukraine, heavy economic sanctions were imposed days prior to the invasion and have since escalated rapidly. Amongst the most prominent organizations affected are Sverbank and VTB, two of the largest Russian financial institutions, state-owned Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest maritime and freight shipping company, and the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

Helsinki Shipyard Orders Main Equipment for Nornickel’s New Icebreaker

Finnish shipbuilder Helsinki Shipyard Oy announced it has completed purchasing contracts for the main equipment of Nornickel’s icebreaker contracted last year, along with model tests in ice and open water for the icebreaker design developed by Aker Arctic.Russian mining company Norilsk Nickel ordered the new environmentally friendly icebreaker for its operations in the Yenisei River basin, Yenisei Bay and the Kara Sea securing access to Dudinka seaport both for its own fleet and its partners.

Keppel Offshore & Marine Delivers Russia's First LNG Bunkering Vessel

Singapore-based shipbuilder Keppel Offshore & Marine has delivered Dmitry Mendeleev, Russia’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering vessel. Designed and built by Keppel O&M, the 5,800m3 ice-class LNG bunkering vessel (LBV) Dmitry Mendeleev was delivered to Shturman Koshelev. When the vessel was ordered back in 2019, it was said that it would, once delivered, be chartered by Gazprom Neft for Baltic Sea operations.The LNG bunkering vessel is the fourth newbuild LBV by Keppel O&M and was built at its Keppel Nantong Shipyard in China to Keppel’s proprietary MTD 5800V LNG design.

Keel Laid for First Russian-built Arc7 LNG Carrier

Russian shipbuilder Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex on Tuesday held a keel laying ceremony for a new Arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ordered by compatriot shipowner PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group).The newbuild is the lead vessel in a series of 15 carriers ordered from Zvezda for servicing the Arctic LNG 2 project. Wärtsilä to Supply Navigation Systems for 10 Arctic LNG Carriers

Wärtsilä Voyage has signed a contract to deliver radio and integrated navigation systems for 10 icebreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be constructed for the Arctic LNG-2 project.The order was placed in January 2021 and is now in process of execution, in partnership with South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd shipyard. The new contract is an extension of the announcement made last summer, where Wärtsilä Voyage equipped five LNG carriers with integrated bridge systems under the same project.

Arctic LNG 2 Partners Charter 14 LNG Carriers

Russian gas giant Novatek has informed that its Arctic LNG 2 joint venture has entered into long-term charter agreements for 14 Arc7 ice-class LNG tankers.The Arctic LNG 2 partners have signed the charter agreements will SMART LNG, a joint venture established in September 2019 between NOVATEK and PAO Sovcomflot. The vessels will be built in Russia's Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and will serve the giant Arctic LNG 2 project on the Gydan peninsula, Russia. The LNG Carriers will operate under the Russian Federation flag.

Wärtsilä to Supply Bridge Systems for Five Icebreaking Gas Carriers

Finland-based marine engine and technology provider Wärtsilä said it has been contracted to deliver a complete bridge systems installation for five icebreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled tankers to be constructed for the Arctic LNG-2 project. SCF, NOVATEK Ink Icebreaker T/C Contract

SCF Group and VEB.RF Group, a Russian financial institution, signed an agreement for lease financing of the lead ship in a series of icebreaking LNG carriers expected to be built to serve the Arctic LNG 2 project.At the same time, SCF Group and NOVATEK Group signed a long-term time charter agreement for this tanker.The vessel will be constructed at Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the Russian Far East. She is designed for year-round operations in the challenging ice conditions of the Kara Sea and The Gulf of Ob and will be able to sail independently through ice over two meters thick.All the LNG carriers in the new series will be operated under the Russian flag. The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will provide technical supervision during the construction of the vessel series.

Sovcomflot Names New Arctic Shuttle Tanker

On October 6, 2019, a naming and flag raising ceremony was held in Vladivostok for Sovcomflot’s latest Arctic shuttle tanker. Cyprus Approves Russian Maritime RS

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has signed a new agreement with the Maritime Administration of the Republic of Cyprus (the Cyprus MA).The new agreement extends the scope of the RS authorization by the Cyprus MA. Gagarin Prospect Performs Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering

The large-capacity Aframax tanker "Gagarin Prospect", owned by Russia's SCF Group,  successfully implementated  construction and operation commencement  using LNG as the primary fuel.Konstantin G. Palnikov, Director General of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, participated in a protocol event dedicated to this project.This pioneered the expansion of LNG fuel into the global shipping industry, for large-capacity ships not tied to fixed routes or set timetables.The specialized LNG bunkering ship Cardissa, a unit of Royal Dutch Shell, successfully performed its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering to take place at the port of Rotterdam two weeks ago.On 15 October, in the port of Primorsk "Gagarin Prospect" carried out the first loading taking on board 104,815 tons of crude oil.

Sovcomflot's Pskov Loads First Cargo from Yamal LNG

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Pskov completed loading at the Port of Sabetta (YNAD), with the first cargo of LNG produced from the second high-tech production line at the Yamal LNG plant.August 08 marked the launch of the second production train at Yamal LNG, which happened six months ahead of schedule.Pskov is a state-of-the-art Atlanticmax LNG carrier with a cargo capacity of 170,000 cubic metres. Zvezda Shipyard to Build an Advanced Ice Class Tanker for Rosneft

AO Rosnefteflot, a subsidiary of Rosneft, and Zvezda shipyard signed a contract during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum for the construction of a shuttle tanker Arc6 with a deadweight of 69,000 tons. The contract provides for an option to build a second similar vessel. At the same time, a 20-year charter agreement was signed between Rosneft and Rosnefteflot. The tanker will be used for safe export of oil and petroleum products from Trebsa and Titova fields. Arc6 ice class tankers are designed for operations where ice thickness is up to 1.5 m and ambient temperature is down to -45 degrees Co. The maximum length of the tanker is 257 meters, its width is 34 meters, draft is 14 meters, height is 21 meters, speed is 15.5 knots.

Tug Delivery Kicks Off Major Project in Russia

With the loading of eight custom-made Damen tugs, German heavy lift company Combi Lift reached a milestone in the Gazprom Amur Gas Processing Plant Project in Russia. This officially marks the transition period between the project’s planning and implementation stages.Combi Lift, contracted by the Linde Group as the exclusive logistics partner for oversized and heavy cargo, chose to cooperate with SAL Heavy Lift in this project. On behalf of Combi Lift, SAL’s Type 161B vessel MV Annette loaded eight newly built tugs in the Waalhaven in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Visits ACSC

Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACSC) held a meeting with Konstantin Palnikov, the General Director of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), which is one of the well-known classification societies. During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between ACSC and RS was discussed. Chairman of the Shipping Company Rauf Veliyev informed the guests about the work carried out in the Shipping Company for the last 4 years. It was noted that maintaining the technical condition of the fleet vessels is one of the main conditions for the implementation of strategic objectives. Rauf Veliyev noted the ongoing work to update the fleet of the Shipping Company and maintain the vessels in good condition.

Arctic LNG Carriers Delivered: RS Class

The construction of a series of Arctic LNG carriers under the technical supervision of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is in progress: in November “Boris Vilkitsky” and “Fedor Litke” gas carriers were delivered to the customer and the keel of a new gas carrier was laid. A series of 15 LNG carriers unique in design, is being constructed as part of the implementation of the large-scale RF liquefied natural gas production project Yamal LNG. The construction site is Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering shipyard in the Republic of Korea. The new gas carriers are capable of all year round operation at temperatures up to – 50 °С. High ice class Arc7 allows them to navigate independently in the ice of up to 2,1 m thick when moving astern.

Rosneft Orders Ten More Arctic Shuttle Tankers at Zvezda

Rosnefteflot, a subsidiary of Russia’s petroleum company Rosneft, has inked agreements with compatriot Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex for construction of ten Arctic shuttle tankers. At the same time Rosnefteflot and Taimyrneftegaz  signed an agreement for 20 year time chartering of these tankers. Each tankers will be with 42,000 t deadweight each. ARC7 ice class tankers are designed for operations in the conditions with ice thickness up to 1.8 m and ambient temperature of down to 45 degrees. The new series of tankers is to be used for transportation of crude produced at Paiyakhskoe field from the mouth of Enisey river along the Northern Sea Route both in the western and eastern directions.

DP System for Icebreaking Standby Vessel

A Navis NavDP4000 DP-2 system has been commissioned on board the third vessel in a series of four currently under construction on Arctech Helsinki Shipyards.   This project is a further development of the two multifunctional icebreaking supply vessels Vitus Bering and Aleksey Chirikov delivered for same owner back in 2012 and 2013.   The multifunctional icebreaking standby vessel is designed for year round operations in harsh conditions of Arctic waters, as she was built to Icebreaker 6 class of Russian Maritime Register. She is also designed to act as an accommodation vessel.   The previously delivered Gennadiy Nevelskoy and Stepan Makarov already started operations serving Sakhalin-2 project.

Russian Engineers Work to Create Multipurpose WIG Craft
