Rimorchiatori Mediterranei Buys Keppel Smit Towage and Maju Maritime

Dutch marine services firm Boskalis and its co-shareholder KS Investments Pte. Ltd. (Keppel) have completed the sale of their equity stakes in their harbor towage activities in Singapore and Malaysia - Keppel Smit Towage Pte Ltd and Maju Maritime Pte Ltd - to Rimorchiatori Mediterranei.Boskalis received EUR 92 million in cash for its 49% equity stake in the joint ventures resulting in a pre tax book gain of approximately EUR 50 million. Keppel Smit Towage (KST) was established in 1991 as a joint venture between Keppel and SMIT, a subsidiary of Boskalis. Over the past thirty years, Boskalis said, KST/Maju has developed into one of the largest and leading providers of harbor towage services in Southeast Asia.

Saam Smit Towage Adds Escort Tug Duo

Saam Smit Towage Canada (SST Canada) has purchased two new RAstar 3200 escort tugs from Hong Kong’s Cheoy Lee Shipyards.SST Grizzly and SST Orca, which are designed by Robert Allan Ltd, has departed Cheoy Lee’s Hin Lee shipyard, will arrive Vancouver in early November of this year.The two new escort-rated tugs will join SST Canada’s fleet and begin operations in the southern waters of British Columbia. Wilson Sons Delivers Tug to SAAM SMIT in Brazil

Wilson Sons Estaleiros has delivered the third Damen designed ASD Tug 2411 to SAAM SMIT Towage in Brazil. The vessel is part of a four-vessel order, the final unit of which the shipyard is on track to deliver according to schedule in November this year.Damen has partnered with Wilson Sons for over 20 years. Under the arrangement of the relationship, Wilson Sons builds vessels using a Damen design, engineering and materials package. The delivery later this year of the final vessel of the SAAM SMIT order will mark the 91st Damen-designed vessel built by Wilson Sons.

Wilson Sons Delivers Tug SST-Aruá

Wilson Sons shipyard, part of the WilsonSons Group, has delivered yet another tugboat. The SST-Aruá is the second tugboat delivered to SAAM SMIT Towage Brazil and is part of a total order of four vessels. The first of the series the SST-Aimoré was delivered in June this year. "It took just over 18 months to deliver the second tugboat from the moment of signing the contract. In a challenging time for the shipbuilding industry, WilsonSons shipyard could again show their strength and resilience," said Adalberto Souza, director of Wilson Sons shipyard. The SST-Aruá was built in Guarujá (SP).

New ASD Tug for Saam Smit in Panama

Saam Smit Towage has ordered a new ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) 2411 tug from Damen Shipyards, for operations in the port of Colón, Panama. Built for stock at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, it was subsequently transported to the Netherlands for finishing. With the agreement in place the new vessel, named the SST Portobelo, is now underway to join the 11-strong Saam Smit tug fleet in Panama. The SST Portobelo is the first ASD 2411 for Saam Smit in Panama. In October 2015, the company placed an order for an ASD Tug 2913, named the SST Rambala, which was delivered in May 2016.

Wilson Sons to Build Tugs for Saam Smit

Wilson Sons Limited announces to its shareholders that the shipyard subsidiary Wilson Sons Estaleiros Ltda, has signed a contract to construct two azimuth tugboats for Saam Smit Towage do Brasil S.A. (Saam Smit), to be delivered within twenty months of payment of the first installment of each vessel. The vessels have a length of 24 meters and a beam of 11 meters with bollard pull of 70 metric tons. Damen Gorinchem Shipyards, who designed the projects, have been working with Wilson Sons in Brazil for more than 20 years.

Boskalis Profits Zoom as Expected

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) closed the third quarter of 2016 in line with expectations. Both revenue and operating profit were higher than the average seen in the first two quarters of the year. The increase was wholly attributable to the contribution from the offshore activities acquired from VolkerWessels, which are consolidated with effect from the third quarter. Adjusted for these activities there was a slight decline in revenue and operating profit compared to the average seen in the first two quarters of the year. Adjusted for acquisitions there was a substantial decline in revenue and operating profit compared to the third quarter of last year, in line with expectations.

New Tug Joins SAAM SMIT’s Panama Fleet

SAAM SMIT Towage (SST), a joint venture between SAAM and Royal Boskalis Westminster which operates in Canada, Mexico Panama and Brazil, has received a new tugboat to join its fleet in Panama. Built in Rumania by Damen shipyard, SST Rambala belongs to the ASD 2913 series and is characterized by being a compact, maneuverable and powerful tugboat, ideal for crowded ports and waterways with limited space, as well as including firefighting capacity, SST said. The new vessel has a length of 29 meters, CAT 3516C 6772 BHP at 1,800 rpm (total) engines, and an 83 tons bollard pull.

VIMC Recognized in B.C. Budget, Exe. Dir. Christens Vessel

The Vancouver International Maritime Centre (VIMC) welcomes the Provincial government’s $1-million commitment for the second year in a row. B.C. The VIMC’s mandate is to encourage global shipping companies to move their operations to Vancouver, bringing high-paid, high-value jobs with them. The city is well-positioned to create the first maritime hub on the west coast of North America, offering competitive tax rates and access to the Asia Pacific Gateway. Last fall, Singapore-based AAL opened an office in Vancouver, with the support of the VMIC. Yesterday, VIMC Executive Director Kaity Arsoniadis-Stein, along with Jewel Jacobs of the Squamish First Nation, were given the honour of officially christening the SST Capilano. The new tug was named after historical leader, Chief Joe Capilano.

The addition of this tug will further strengthen the fleet that Saam Smit Towage operates in British Columbia. Saam Smit Towage (SST), a joint venture between SAAM and Royal Boskalis and operating in various locations in the Americas, took delivery of a new tugboat. Strengthening its fleet in Canada, the “SST Capilano” joins the 21 tugboats the company operates in British Columbia.

Saam Smit Towage, a joint venture between SAAM S.A. and Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. providing towage services in Mexico, Canada, Panama and Brazil, announced it has invested in fleet renewal in Canada and Panama. The company’s Canadian arm has taken delivery of newbuild tug SST Capilano, to be added to the fleet of 21 tugs operated in British Columbia. For Panama, meanwhile, a newbuild tug to be named SST Rambala has been ordered from Damen Shipyards and will be delivered in March, 2016.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and KOTUG International B.V. have reached a formal agreement to merge their European harbor towage operations following on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the parties in late 2014. The combined operations will be transferred to a 50/50 joint venture bringing together the European harbor towage activities of KOTUG and Boskalis subsidiary SMIT, operating under the new name KOTUG SMIT Towage. Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) and KOTUG International B.V. (KOTUG) have reached agreement on the merger of their European harbour towage operations. The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the parties in late 2014 has now been formalized following a thorough process. The combined operations will be transferred to a 50/50 joint venture bringing together the European harbour towage activities of SMIT, a Boskalis subsidiary, and KOTUG. The operations will continue under the name KOTUG SMIT Towage. SAAM SMIT Towage Orders Damen ASD Tug

SAAM SMIT Towage, a joint venture between SAAM S.A. of Chile and Dutch company Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V., has signed a contract for the purchase of a Damen Tug 2913 for delivery in early 2016, the shipbuilder announced today. This order, signed at the Offshore Energy Exhibition in Amsterdam, signals the first new tug purchase by SAAM SMIT since its establishment in July 2014. The joint venture operates in Mexico, Brazil, Panama and Canada, though the new ASD 2913 will be based initially in Panama.

SAAM SMIT Towage Brazil Signs on with Helm

Helm Operations has signed on Brazilian harbor services company SAAM SMIT Towage to its Helm Marine Operations software to manage its billing and dispatch. SAAM SMIT Towage started towage operations in Brazil in 2008 and is now active in eight ports and terminals. SAAM SMIT provides assistance to incoming and outgoing seagoing vessels – including ro-ro ships, oil and chemical tankers, container ships, reefers and mixed cargo ships. Robert Martijn Smits, Commercial Manager of SMIT Brazil, said that reliability was a deciding factor in their choice of Helm. “We chose Helm because with the expansion of SAAM SMIT Towage in Brazil we needed a confident, 100% reliable and professional dispatch system to accompany us in our growth.

SAAM SMIT Towage J/V to Operate 100 Tugboat Fleet

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. inform that with SAAM S.A. they have successfully created a joint harbor towage operation within the American Continent in Brazil, Mexico, Canada and Panama, comprising two underlying joint ventures operating in more than 30 port terminals with a hundred tugboats. The intended partnership, which is between SMIT, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boskalis, and SAAM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sociedad Matriz SAAM S.A. (SM SAAM), was previously announced in September 2013 and all conditions to form the joint venture have now been fulfilled. The merger will generate synergies estimated at approximately USD 10 million per year, to be fully captured in the next 24 months.

Boskalis Raises Full-year Profit Forecast

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has concluded a good third quarter. Revenue and earnings, adjusted to reflect the deconsolidation of SAAM SMIT Towage, are in line with the first two quarters of 2014. At Dredging the possible settlement of a number of old projects mentioned during the presentation of the half-year numbers has taken place. This contributed substantially to third quarter earnings. Overall market conditions remain challenging. Despite this the order book has risen slightly, compared to the mid-2014 level, to EUR 3.3 billion, which is on par with the level at the start of the year. Based on current insights the second half of the year is expected to be good.
