Maryland Port Administration, Port of Baltimore Joins CDMCS

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA), Port of Baltimore, officially joined the Council for Dredging and Marine Construction Safety (CDMCS), a national unified safety voice for the dredging and marine construction industry.The Port of Baltimore is one of the busiest seaports in the United States, handling every type of cargo at its public and private terminals. Currently, Baltimore is in the execution phase of more than $200 million in marine construction, dredging and infrastructure upgrades at Seagirt, Dundalk and Locust Point Marine Terminals.

New Product Targets Manhole Safety

SafeEdge from Rustibus is a new and innovative system that provides safety for the crew and equipment when working around open manholes. This product is specifically designed to prevent injuries associated with open manholes onboard vessels or offshore platforms. Current manhole practices are often unsafe, impractical and time-consuming, and a lack of best practices is unsustainable. There have been several incidents that have caused bodily harm and injuries due to unmarked or poorly secured manholes.

ISP, Ocean Signal Equip Schooner with Safety Products

UK-based maritime firms, International Safety Products and Ocean Signal, have collaborated to equip Britain’s last remaining three-masted top-sail schooner with essential marine safety equipment. The two firms have supplied lifejackets and an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) to the Kathleen & May. Located in Canning Dock, Liverpool, bystanders will see the ISP and Ocean Signal flags waving high on the vessel’s main mast. It comes during a busy period of activity for the Kathleen & May which is an event location during this year’s International Festival for Business.

Solar Solve Attracts Cruise Ship Orders

Royal Caribbean Cruises Navigator of the Seas

Solar Solve Marine has received a number of recent orders for its class approved roller screens to be installed at the navigation bridge windows on cruise ships. One significant contract was for Royal Caribbean Cruises Navigator of the Seas – a Voyager Class Cruise Ship. Her keel was laid at Aker Yards, Finland in 2000 and the ship was launched in 2002. She is 138,279 GT and can carry 3,114 passengers plus additional crew, with a length of 1,020 feet and beam of 157.5 feet she is still one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

Rederiet Stenersen Orders Solasolv Screens

U.K. based Solar Solve Marine received two orders to supply SOLASOLV class approved roller screens from Stenships KS, a subsidiary of Rederiet Stenersen AS, headquartered in Bergen, Norway. Rederiet Stenersen transports liquid products with 17 chemical/product tankers ranging from 17-19,000 DWT deployed in North West European Trade. In December and January the company placed two orders for the M/T Sten Suomi and M/T Sten Bothnia. SOLASOLV antiglare screens are installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide.

Ben-My-Chree Orders SOLASOLV Screens

U.K. based Solar Solve Marine received an order to supply 12 SOLASOLV class approved roller screens to the Ben-My-Chree Ro-Pax ferry. The vessel is owned and operated by Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and operates from Douglas to Heysham. Built by van der Giessen de Nord shipyard in the Netherlands at the cost of £24 million, the ship entered into service in 1998 and can carry 636 passengers and up to 200 vehicles. SOLASOLV anti-glare screens are installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide.

Korean Orders for SOLASOLV Roller Screens

In June 2013, Solar Solve Marine received 18 separate orders for their SOLASOLV roller screens from their South Korean Distributor. The orders are primarily for ships under construction in South Korean shipyards and equated to a total quantity of 236 screens. SOLASOLV anti glare screens are installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide. According to the manufacturer, they are a safety product that effectively rejects up to 87% of heat and up to 93% of glare from the sun.

Viking Shows Growth

Marine and fire safety equipment manufacturer and service provider Viking Life-saving Equipment A/S has reported its ninth year of growth – capturing market share from competitors in a difficult business climate and delivering record turnover of DKK 1,584 billion and PBT of 115 million DKK. According to CEO Henrik Uhd Christensen, the company’s results are due to Viking’s investments in long term growth, which are proving their worth in a worldwide market that has virtually stagnated during 2012.

New offshore wind safety product Vessel Motion Monitoring System (VMMS) achieves excellent results in first tests. Vessel Motion Monitoring System (VMMS) developed to provide accurate motion monitoring, improves safety during vessel transfer operations. Offers real time impact load measurement combined with additional data logging capability to support health and safety analysis and investigations. Successful testing has been carried out by Submarine Technology Ltd (STL). James Fisher and Sons plc group companies Fendercare and Strainstall Marine have received excellent results following work with sub-sea and offshore development experts Submarine Technology Ltd (STL) to test and validate their new Vessel Motion Monitoring System (VMMS).
