Royal Norwegian Navy Chooses Sagem Navigation System

Sagem (Safran) has won a contract from the Royal Norwegian Navy in competitive bidding for the navigation system on its polar research ship, the RV Kronprins Haakon, as well as the future 26,000-metric-ton ocean support vessel to be built by the Korean shipyard DSME under a contract signed in July 2013 with the Norwegian defense logistics organization. Both navy ships will be equipped with SIGMA 40 laser-gyro navigation system, which was developed and produced by Sagem as an inertial navigation system based on laser gyros and designed for harsh military environments. The Sigma 40 is a high-precision, autonomous navigation system that contributes to the effectiveness of naval weapon systems and mission success, its developer said.

Threat Detection and Recognition

Trucks, trains, ships and oil rigs are all potential targets for criminal organizations. Organizations that own, use or transport high value assets recognise the need to protect their goods and employees, especially when they are at their most vulnerable - when in remote or isolated situations, at night and when operating alone. By their very nature, trucks, trains, ships and oil rigs are all potential targets for criminal organisations. Furthermore, monitoring systems, early warning and deterrent technology have not been available to address this need at a remotely affordable cost.

EU R&D Project to Exhibit Security Model

A practical demonstration of the ARENA R&D project, part funded by the EU, will be delivered at Sagem’s premises in Massy, Paris on April 16, 2014. ARENA (Architecture for Recognition of thrEats to mobile assets using Networks of Affordable sensors) was developed to enable the automatic detection and recognition of threats against mobile critical assets such as trucks, trains and ships, as well as offshore platforms. ARENA uses multisensory data analysis and will be showcased by the project team using a truck.

Xsens to Supply Sagem with DSP Module

Xsens, a supplier of 3D motion tracking systems, signed an agreement today with Sagem (Safran Group) for the supply of advanced sensor fusion signal processing modules for integration in a new line of inertial system products from Sagem. Sagem chose Xsens after a careful technology and supplier selection process. As part of the supply agreement, Xsens has customized its proven 3D motion tracking sensor fusion algorithms to take full benefit of Sagem’s advanced Coriolis resonating gyros and high grade silicon accelerometers. Building on the XKF-3™ sensor fusion algorithms for 3D orientation estimation, Xsens is delivering a custom DSP module which outputs very accurate vertical reference values, even in dynamic situations.
