SAL Heavy Lift said Friday it had chartered two modern semi-submersible deck carriers, the “Zhong Ren 121” and “Zhong Ren 122” on a long-term basis together with its partner Shanghai Salvage (China). "Both ships will be delivered in Shanghai between December 2023 and February 2024 and marketed through the Jumbo-SAL Alliance," Sal Heavy Lift said.“We don’t use the term ‘milestone’ lightly – but, in this case, it’s more than appropriate. This project is extremely important to us as a group, both commercially and strategically,” says Dr Martin Harren, CEO of SAL Heavy Lift and the Harren Group.

The new Orca Class heavy-lift vessels being built at China's Wuhu Shipyard for the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance will be propelled by SCHOTTEL ControllablePropellers (SCP).The four-bladed controllable pitch propellers type SCP 129 will feature an input power of up to 8,810 kW and a propeller diameter of six meters.Jumbo-SAL-Alliance is a commercial joint venture between German shipping company SAL Heavy Lift and Netherlands-based Jumbo Shipping. Sperry Marine has secured the contract to deliver complete navigation systems including its VisionMaster Net bridge, NAVIGAT gyrocompass, and NAVIPILOT 4500N autopilot for four vessels under construction for SAL Heavy Lift at WuHu shipyard, China. Sperry Marine’s VM Net bridge system provides connected navigation and can be supported remotely, reducing the requirement for in-person service calls, the company said.According to Sperry Marine, VM Net is designed for simplified deployment and increased system availability…

China's WuHu Shipyard has cut the first steel for an Orca series heavy lift vessel being built for an alliance between SAL Heavy Lift GmbH and Jumbo Shipping.Back in September 2022, SAL and Jumbo said they had signed building contracts for four firms plus two optional new-generation heavy lift ships with Wuhu Shipyard."After a long and extensive planning phase, our Orca newbuilding series has finally kicked off! On 22 February, the ceremonial first steel cutting was conducted at WuHu Shipyard in Wuhu, China," the Dutch heavy lifting and transportation firm Jumbo said Tuesday.

Finland-based marine engine and technology provider Wärtsilä will supply its hybrid propulsion system for four new heavy lift vessels being built at the Wuhu Shipyard in China. The ships are set to be delivered in 2025, and they will mostly be used to help set up wind farms. The vessels have been contracted by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, a German heavy lift and project cargo specialist and part of the Harren Group, in cooperation with its joint-venture partner, Netherlands-based Jumbo Shipping.

German shipping and logistics group Harren & Partner announced it has hired Nils Aden as managing director, effective May 1.Aden brings to the role more than two decades of know-how as a shipping industry executive in the industry, with experience from leadership positions in international ship management, transformation projects, M&A transactions and integration. In his previous assignments, he overlooked the merger of V.Ships and Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt as Managing Director, led Zeaborn as CEO and transformed E.R. Schiffahrt as CEO into an international ship management player.

German fleet operator SAL Heavy Lift has hired Inatech, a unit of Glencore, to ensure compliance with new low-sulphur emissions rules and optimize bunker strategies.Inatech has seen increased onboarding of its ‘Smart Trader’ app, which enables companies to map entire fleets of ships and visualize and plan for best port to bunker given sea and port conditions to achieve lowest prices for the desired quality of fuel. SAL Heavy Lift, a carrier specializing in sea transport of heavy lift and project cargo,  announced that it will expand its fleet with three heavy lift vessels with 800t lifting capacity in early 2020.The three vessels - “MV Hanna”, “MV Klara” and “MV Lisa” - will come to serve breakbulk and heavy lift clients on world markets via SALs well known Semi-Liner Service, but will also potentially offer new service options.When the new year 2020 dawns, SAL will see its fleet expanding with three vessels - an addition that aims to strengthen its semi-liner service and underline SAL as a leading player in the heavy lift and project cargo segment.

SAL Heavy Lift, a carrier specialized in sea transport of heavy lift and project cargo, has installed a Fly-Jib crane boom extension on MV Lone which will be used on an offshore wind project in Taiwan.The Hamburg-based company said in a press release that the Fly-Jib extends the crane hook to the height of some 70 metres and can be installed to each of the main crane booms of SAL’s Type 183 vessels.With the much greater lifting height and further outreach, SAL’s new Fly-Jib can meet clients demands when units become ever bigger and where one faces requirements to lift long components vertically – e.g. with offshore wind equipment. The heavy lift sea transport provider SAL Heavy Lift has delivered 12 bridge sections for the Beitstadsundbrua bridge from China to Norway.The final bridge is part of the largest road construction project in northern Trøndelag, will measure 580 m in length and will connect the municipalities of Steinkjer and Malm, crossing the Beitstadfjorden.The bridge will make travelling between northern parts of Trøndelag county considerably safer, as well as reduce travelling time significantly.In a mountainous country like Norway, which is cut apart by deep fjords, bridge building is a virtue of necessity. Today there are over 18.000 bridges, summing up to 446 km and each with an average length of 250 m, spread across Norway.

The MV Tasmanic Winter has nearly finished its voyage from China to Rotterdam with 24 new vessels on board built at Damen yards in Changde and Yichang.In line with its standard practice, Damen is transporting these in batches to the Netherlands where most of them will be ready for sale to customers seeking the shortest possible delivery times, including customization when required.In a first for Damen, the Tasmanic Winter took the Northern Sea route along Russia’s north coast, which can reduce the journey time by up to eight days compared with the traditional southern route.

SAL Heavy Lift said it signed a contract with GeoSea NV for the shipment of a total of 49 transition pieces for the Horns Rev 3 Offshore Wind Farm.The assignment compiles transportation of TPs from fabrication yards in Aalborg, Denmark and Vlissingen, Netherlands to the project port of Esbjerg in Denmark. With the loading of eight custom-made Damen tugs, German heavy lift company Combi Lift reached a milestone in the Gazprom Amur Gas Processing Plant Project in Russia. This officially marks the transition period between the project’s planning and implementation stages.Combi Lift, contracted by the Linde Group as the exclusive logistics partner for oversized and heavy cargo, chose to cooperate with SAL Heavy Lift in this project. On behalf of Combi Lift, SAL’s Type 161B vessel MV Annette loaded eight newly built tugs in the Waalhaven in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The SAL Heavy Lift vessel MV Lone loaded onboard a newly built batch of eleven Damen flat top Pontoons in Shanghai. MV Lone is bringing the pontoons to the Netherlands. The majority of the pontoons will be available quickly to Damen’s clients from stock. Two of the pontoons have been sold already to a client in the Netherlands. The pontoons have diverse applications in civil construction projects, fish farms, heavy lift, dredging and renewable energy operations amongst other things.

RollDock and SAL Heavy Lift announced plans to join forces for roll-on/roll-off and float-in/float-out heavy lift cargoes, saying they will launch a “world’s first” pool for dock vessels from April 1, 2018. The pool will consist of the combined fleet of six vessels and will be managed by RollDock with SAL providing specialized heavy break bulk cargo support. Five of the vessels comes from the existing RollDock fleet (S and ST class vessels) and one from SAL (Combi Dock I). Both companies will also continue independently and operate vessels outside the pool.

SAL has announced Jürgen Kuntz as its new Head of Asia Desk in Hamburg. Originally setting up the SAL office in Shanghai, Kuntz will continue to strengthen the Asia related business with his 15 year long experience from China, the company said. Kuntz started with SAL as a trainee in 1993. In 2001 he opened the first overseas office for SAL in Shanghai, this soon to be followed by a second office in Beijing. Having worked as General Manager for SAL in China for ten years, Jürgen decided in 2011 to seek new challenges with BBC Chartering in the Chinese market.

Bremen-based shipping company Harren & Partner and "K" Line, Tokyo, have reached an agreement for Harren & Partner to acquire German carrier SAL Heavy Lift today (27 July 2017). SAL will become the new dominant player in the super heavy lift segment (900 t to 2,000 t crane capacity). SAL Heavy Lift, founded in 1980 in the "Altes Land" area near Hamburg, is one of the world's leading carriers specialised in the sea transport of heavy lift and project cargo. Its offshore subsidiary, SAL Offshore, develops and supplies installation solutions for the oil & gas and renewables sectors. Part of the "K" Line Group since 2011, SAL has access to a highly flexible fleet of 15 heavy lift vessels and a worldwide network with offices and agencies in 25 countries.

Shipbuilder Damen said its latest transport of newbuild vessels has arrived in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The multiple vessel shipment carried on board the SAL Heavy Lift vessel MV Lone comprises various Damen Tugs and one Multi Cat that have been constructed at Damen’s yards in Vietnam. Consisting of two Stan Tugs 2608, three ASD Tugs 2411, four ASD Tugs 2810, two ASD Tugs 3212 and a Multi Cat 1908, the shipment is a strategic positioning of built-for-stock vessels in Europe, the shipbuilder said.

Just down river from Damen Song Cam Shipyard, SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Svenja departed from Halong Bay loaded with 14 vessels. The shipment consists primarily of built-for-stock vessels – Stan Pontoons and Tugs – which will be available for immediate purchase on arrival in Rotterdam in October. MV Svenja’s voyage began in Shanghai on August 30th when she started loading eight Stan Pontoons that were built at Damen Yichang Shipyard, China. This first load includes Stan Pontoons 4113, 4111, 4512, 5211 and 6316.

Damen has concluded its latest multiple vessel transport. The shipment of ready-for-delivery vessels contains Stan Pontoons 4113, 4111, 4512, 5211 and 6316 in addition to a number of ASD 2810 Tugs. From a client’s point of view, a transport such as this means that vessels are available at competitive prices and within fast delivery times. The transport was performed by SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Svenja, which set sail from Shanghai at the end of August loaded with Stan Pontoons from Damen Yichang Shipyard, China.
