WuHu Shipyard Starts Building Orca Series Heavy Lift Vessel for Jumbo and SAL

China's WuHu Shipyard has cut the first steel for an Orca series heavy lift vessel being built for an alliance between SAL Heavy Lift GmbH and Jumbo Shipping.Back in September 2022, SAL and Jumbo said they had signed building contracts for four firms plus two optional new-generation heavy lift ships with Wuhu Shipyard."After a long and extensive planning phase, our Orca newbuilding series has finally kicked off! On 22 February, the ceremonial first steel cutting was conducted at WuHu Shipyard in Wuhu, China," the Dutch heavy lifting and transportation firm Jumbo said Tuesday.

Wärtsilä's Hybrid Propulsion System for Four New Heavy Lift Vessels

Finland-based marine engine and technology provider Wärtsilä will supply its hybrid propulsion system for four new heavy lift vessels being built at the Wuhu Shipyard in China. The ships are set to be delivered in 2025, and they will mostly be used to help set up wind farms. The vessels have been contracted by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, a German heavy lift and project cargo specialist and part of the Harren Group, in cooperation with its joint-venture partner, Netherlands-based Jumbo Shipping.

SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Frauke Wraps Up Offshore Gig

The specialist vessel MV Frauke operated by SAL Heavy Lift has just completed a major long term offshore industry project, the company announced. The Type 176 vessel MV Frauke finalized the project, which it began in July 2014, in December 2014. Demobilization of the vessel in Germany in December. A significant challenge within this project was the absolute precision required on the weight spreading calculation on the hatch covers. The stability of the hatch covers was ensured with tailor-made steel supports, which were installed beneath the hatch covers, SAL Heavy Lift said.

SAL Heavy Lift Handles Ichthys LNG project

SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, the leading Heavy Lift operator, has successfully completed a series of complex and sensitive shipments totalling more than 100,000frtts for the Ichthys LNG Project near Darwin, NT. SAL Heavy Lift was contracted by the Project’s freight forwarder SDV, Asia for five shipments performed on a consecutive basis from load-ports Sattahip, Masan, Busan and Shanghai. Each of the shipments contained individual items that tested both SAL’s engineering strength and the capabilities of the vessel. SAL’s type 176 MV REGINE with 2 x 700ts cranes (1,400ts lift cap in tandem), and open hatch capability together with a third aft mount crane of 350ts lift cap was selected as the ideal candidate to provide utmost flexibility, cost efficiency and safety to the project.

Two Vessels Join SAL Heavy Lift’s Fleet

SAL Heavy Lift, one of the world’s leading heavy lift vessel operators, has added two ships, Calypso and Amoenitas, to its fleet to serve clients with lift requirements of up to 900 metric tons. SAL's type 183 vessels and 176 vessels are well planned ahead, so SAL's expansion with type 116 responds to the growing demand for its mid-range services on the part of customers worldwide. “As our vessels are in great demand, and we feel that this demand will continue to grow, now is the right time to expand,” said Lars Rolner, Managing Director of SAL Heavy Lift GmbH.

BAM Clough And SAL To Move LNG & LPG Product Loading Platforms

SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, through its wholly owned Singapore subsidiary, SAL Heavy Lift Singapore Pte Ltd, has signed a major new contract with Australia's BAM Clough Joint Venture for shipping and deployment of LNG and LPG product loading platforms for the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG Project, near Darwin, Australia. BAM Clough is delivering the Product Loading Jetty and Module Offloading Facility packages of works for the Project’s onshore LNG facilities under subcontracts awarded by engineering, procurement and construction contractor JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd. The two platforms, being built in Batam, Indonesia, will be among the largest structures ever handled by a heavy lift vessel. The LNG platform will weigh in at a hefty 1,080 tonnes with dimensions of 40 x 39 x 8 metres.

SAL Heavy Lift HQ Re-locates in Hamburg, Germany

The SAL head office moves to new premises in Hamburg’s HafenCity, to accommodate growing staff numbers. In particular the move will give adequate space for the company's new Project and Offshore department. SAL say that the new location is comfortably close to Hamburg’s main station and airport and will facilitate communication with their international customers. With a fleet of 16 heavy lift vessels, SAL provides customized and reliable sea transportation solutions for all types of project cargoes including heavy machinery, equipment for the oil and gas industry, (offshore) wind energy, cranes and floating cargo. Sohar Port Receives 1,000th Vessel

The 9,000 metric tonne MV Maria, owned and operated by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, berthed at the container terminal C Steinweg Oman (CSO). On board was a 300-tonne gas turbine due for installation at a new power plant under construction in the Batinah area. The arrival of the 1,000th vessel this early augurs well for a significant increase in ship calls during 2012. When compared with figures for 2011, Port of Sohar received its 1,000th vessel in September of the year, notching up a tally of 1,474 calls by year’s end. The CSO Terminal handles industrial project cargo, among which many heavy lifts, a variety of break-bulk cargos (aluminium ingots and sows, steel billets, steel coils, steel pipes and tubulars, steel plates, and so on), dry-bulk and RO-RO cargo.
