Coast Guard, Industry Navigate Future of Liquefied Gas

Senior U.S. Coast Guard leaders and liquefied-gas-industry experts from around the country came together the second week of December at Sector Houston-Galveston to prepare for the increased use of liquefied gases throughout the maritime community and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies each party faces as they adapt to the rapid growth in this multibillion dollar industry. The maritime community is experiencing an international shift with the increased transport and use of liquefied gases. The increased supply created by the U.S.

Wave Energy Conversion Competition Offers Cash Prize

Ricardo has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to administer a ocean Wave Energy Converter (WEC) prize challenge, aimed at helping to bring this potential source of clean energy to commercial scale. Wave energy conversion is technology that uses the motion of ocean waves to create electricity. The WEC Prize aims to attract innovative and next generation ideas from new and existing wave energy developers by offering a monetary prize and providing an opportunity for tank testing and evaluation of scaled WEC prototypes.

Foss Assists Lab in Hydrogen Fuel Research

Foss Maritime and one of America's most prestigious national research laboratories are joining in a project aimed at producing cleaner air, less costly fuel and a healthier environment. Seattle-based Foss and its Hawaiian subsidiary, Young Brothers Ltd., are partnering with hydrogen researchers at Sandia National Laboratory. They are building a portable, self-contained hydrogen fuel cell for testing at the Port of Honolulu beginning in 2015 for six months. The prototype can be installed on barges…

BSEE to Establish Ocean Energy Safety Institute

As part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above approach to domestic energy development, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director James Watson today announced the Bureau is taking steps to establish an independent Ocean Energy Safety Institute (Institute) to further enhance safe and responsible operations across the offshore oil and gas industry. The Institute will provide a forum for dialogue, shared learning and cooperative research among academia, government, industry and other non-government organizations in offshore-related technologies and activities that ensure safe operations with limited impact to the environment.

OSEC to Hold Sixth Public Meeting

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director Jim Watson has announced that the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee (OESC) will hold its sixth public meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 and Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Washington, D.C. The OESC is a public federal advisory body including some of the nation’s leading scientific, engineering and technical experts. Chaired by former Sandia National Laboratory Director Dr. Tom Hunter, the group consists of members from federal agencies, the offshore oil and gas industry, academia, and nongovernmental organizations.

Ocean Energy Safety Committee to Hold Public Meeting

Washington — James A. Watson, Director of the  Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), announced that the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee (OESC) will hold its fourth public meeting on Thursday, April 26, 2012. “The OESC is a valuable body which is able to thoroughly examine a range of issues, from offshore energy work place and drilling safety, to blow-out containment and spill response,” said Watson. The OESC is a public federal advisory body, including some of the nation’s leading scientific, engineering and technical experts. Chaired by former Sandia National Laboratory Director Dr. Tom Hunter, the group consists of 15 members from federal agencies, the offshore oil and gas industry, academia, and non-governmental organizations.

Stratos Announces Newly Elected Directors

Stratos Global Corporation announced that Sir Robert Walmsley and Mr. Michael Bayer were elected as new members of the Corporation's Board of Directors at its annual general meeting held May 11, 2006. Sir Robert Walmsley was Chief of Defence Procurement at the UK Ministry of Defense ("MoD") from 1996 until his retirement from public service in 2003. Prior to his MoD appointment, Sir Robert was a career officer in the Royal Navy, where he rose to the rank of Vice Admiral in 1994 and served for two years as Controller of the Navy.
