Steve Roth has been promoted to President of Seaspan Ferries Corporation (SFC). In this position, Steve will continue to have the primary accountability for the overall performance of the SFC business unit, including management of day-to-day operations of SFC, as well as the short and long-term strategic planning processes, including setting and fulfilling revenue and profitability targets and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders. He is also responsible for ensuring that customer service expectations are met or exceeded while ensuring the safe operation of SFC’s vessels…

Typhoon Chaba Disrupts South Korean Port Ops

Typhoon Chaba battered southern parts of South Korea with violent wind and heavy rain on Wednesday, killing at least three people and flooding the country's main port and industrial sites and disrupting production at some factories. The storm hit the island of Jeju overnight and one person was reported missing amid widespread power outages and damage to homes and other buildings. Twenty-six flights linking the holiday island to the mainland and to China were cancelled. The port in the city of Busan was shut for a second day as Chaba whirled past and headed east towards Japan. An official at the country's biggest port said it was expected to reopen later in the day.

Sembcorp Marine Acquires A 50 Percent Stake In PPL Shipyard

SembCorp Marine has signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement with PPL Holdings Pte Ltd to acquire a 50 percent equity stake comprising 10,000,000 shares of $1.00 each in PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd. (PPLS) for $16 million. PPLS' business is primarily in oil rig and vessel construction as well as steel fabrication. It has recently secured a contract for the construction of two jack-up drilling rigs, each having a value of $125 million, from Sante Fe International Corp., with a construction period of 24 months for each rig. There are also options for four additional jack-up drilling rigs to be built for Sante Fe International Corporation. Last year, PPLS delivered a semi-submersible drilling rig named Cajun Express to U.S. offshore drilling company, Transocean Sedco Forex Inc.

Offshore:Halifax Wins Another Order

Halifax Shipyard won another offshore contract. The Irving Shipyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia has landed a contract to modify and refit the Glomar Grand Banks semi-submersible drill rig. The work will be completed at the Irving facility in Woodside. The job, which was commissioned by Global Sante Fe of Houston, Texas, will employ 350 people for a minimum of three months starting in January. The Rig will tie up at Woodside Facility on the December 19, and prepare for the upgrade. The Global Santa Fe Project are already in place in Halifax.
