Yara and ACME Sign Ammonia Supply Agreement

Port of Duqm, Shell Oman to Develop Fuel Bunkering Facilities

Shell Oman Marketing Company SAOG signed an agreement with Port of Duqm Company SAOC (PDC) to develop fuel bunkering facilities and services.The downstream oil marketing company in the Sultanate said in a press release that agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of SOM, and Reggy Vermeulen, CEO of PDC.The agreement establishes bunkering terminal to provide different grades of quality fuels and lubricants as well as other ancillary facilities to marine liners calling at Port of Duqm, a 50:50 joint venture between the Oman Government and Port of Antwerp Consortium.Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Al Balushi…

Port of Duqm Signs Land Lease Agreement with Petrojet

Damen Delivers Tug Pair to Smit Lamnalco

Netherlands based shipbuilder Damen said it has delivered two of four ASD 3212 tugs to towage and related marine services’ company Smit Lamnalco.Arriving in Oman on July 10, the two new tugs, each with a bollard pull of 80 metric tons, will be directly deployed at a Oman India Fertilizer Company S.A.O.C (OMIFCO) dedicated terminal in the Port of Sur and will be owned and operated by the joint venture Bahwan Lamnalco Company (BLC).In November 2017, Smit Lamnalco announced that it had decided to order four Damen ASD 3212 tugs following an award of two major contracts…

Aumann Named CEO of Oman Drydock

Stephan Aumann has been appointed by ASYAD (formerly Oman Global Logistic Group) board of directors as the new CEO of the Oman Drydock Company S.A.O.C. in Duqm/Oman. Veotec Supplies Water Removal Vanes to Vigor

Air intake systems designer and manufacturer Veotec said it has supplied air inlet vanes (vertical louvers) and CP2 filters to U.S. shipbuilder Vigor for two pilot boats delivered to the Port of Duqm Company SAOC, Sultanate of Oman. Veotec's scope of supply for each pilot vessel included two SE2 two stage (louver and coalescer) units for engine room combustion and ventilation air supply, and one SE2 two stage (louver and coalescer) unit for the A/C make up air inlet. These units were custom built in the U.S. using marine grade aluminum.

Oman Shipping Withdraws from Navig8 Pool

Navig8 Group (Navig8), the world's largest provider of maritime services,  has announced that it has been advised by Oman Shipping Company SAOC (OSC) that they have decided to internalize the commercial management of their VLCC fleet which had been hitherto in the VL8 pool. The VL8 pool is one of the largest VLCC tanker pools in the world and one of 16 shipping pools managed by Navig8. The company's 16 shipping pools bring together multiple, like-minded owners with vessels of similar type and characteristics, into distinct pools. Each pool is managed by the Navig8 as a single, cohesive fleet, allowing owners to leverage Navig8's leading network of charterer relationships and strong cargo base.

Vigor Delivers Two Pilot boats to M.E.

Vigor expanded its growing portfolio of international sales with the delivery of two, 19m all-weather pilot boats to The Port of Duqm Company (PDC), SAOC, Sultanate of Oman. The Port has been undergoing a major multiphase expansion and the new pilot boats will play a key role in ensuring the safety of vessels calling on the port. “This is an important delivery for us,” said Keith Whittemore, Vigor Executive Vice President of Business Development. “PDC is a world class, state-of-the-art Port with a major commitment to quality and safety. OOCEP Ships First Crude Oil from MGP Terminal

Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production LLC (OOCEP) shipped its first crude oil cargo from the Musandam gas plant (MGP) with the support of UAE-based Marsol International. OOCEP, a subsidiary of Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C exported 300,000 barrels of crude oil as part of the operation, which were fully processed at the MGP on May 4 in Oman. Maritime Security Demand Keeps US Builders Busy

Export hulls – through the FMS Program, as well as Direct Sales – are a key piece of the business model. Even as the crash in energy prices feeds the oversupply of offshore support vessels – a key staple of U.S. boatbuilding diets – and the dwindling backlogs of some so-called ‘second tier’ yards,  a number of U.S. boat builders are still seeing robust demand for security vessels. Separately, tightening federal, state, municipal and overseas budgets are being trumped by the increased need for security craft that can perform more than one function.

Kvichak Marine Awarded Duqm Pilot Boat Contract

Kvichak Marine Industries  has been awarded a contract for the construction of two 19m all-weather pilot boats for the Port of Duqm Company SAOC, Sultanate of Oman, the company announced today. Designed by Camarc Design, Ltd., UK, the vessels will also function as search and rescue and oil spill recovery vessels. The all-aluminum vessels will be powered by twin Cummins QSK-19 marine diesel engines rated for 800 hp at 2100 rpm each and twin ZF 2000A transmissions driving NiBrAl 5-bladed fixed propellers,  providing an operating speed of ~20 knots.

New RAmparts Tugs for PSA Marine

A year after PSA Marine, Singapore took delivery of Rubicon, its first ever RAmparts 3200CL tug from Cheoy Lee Shipyards, Hong Kong in December 2013, the same builder has now put four more similar tugs, OLNG Sur, OLNG Seeb, OLNG Masirah and OLNG Muttrah into the hands of PSA Marine Qalhat SAOC. These tugs are similar to their predecessors in this design series, with modifications to suit the owner's requirements for operations at the LNG terminal in the Port of Qalhat in Oman.

PSA Marine Expands into Middle East

PSA Marine Qalhat SAOC (PSAMQ), a joint venture company formed between PSA Marine (Pte) Ltd (PSA Marine) and Golden Dunes International LLC (GDI), will commence towage operations for Oman LNG LLC (OLNG) in Sur, Oman on 11 January 2015. The contract will be for a period of 10 years. OLNG, a joint venture between the Omani Government (51%), Shell (30%) and other notable global energy players, is currently Oman’s only exporter of liquefied natural gas. OSC Plans Fleet Expansion through 2018

State-owned Oman Shipping Company SAOC (OSC) is projecting to expand its current fleet of 43 ships to 50 by 2018, the Oman Daily Observer reported. According to the report, the expansion is in line with a ramp-up in hydrocarbon, petrochemical and industrial investment throughout Oman. As the Omani economy grows, OSC looks to provide the tonnage required to meet the maritime shipping needs of expanding production capacity, a company representative told the Observer. China Rongsheng Delivers Fourth Vale VLOC

China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Holdings Limited has delivered the 380,000 dwt class Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) 'Vale Caofeidian' to Brazil's Vale S.A. The vessel is the fourth 380,000 DWT class VLOC delivered by the Group this year and its eleventh delivery of VLOC's overall. The Chinese shipbuilders have successfully delivered 11 VLOCs, while most of those remaining have been launched and are under outfitting process. The next VLOC delivering to Vale is also at its final stage for sea trial.

China Rongsheng Heavy Industries delivers the ninth and tenth 380,000-dwt class Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs). Christened Vale Jiangsu  and Vale Shinas, the two new Rongsheng-built 380,000 DWT class VLOCs have been delivered to Vale S.A. and Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. respectively. Rongsheng say that the vessels adopt an environmentally friendly design to achieve lower oil consumption and reduce the emission of CO2, while  operating efficiency exceeds that of most existing ore carriers.

Sohar Port, Oman, Fully Operational by January 2014

Construction of the new 70-hectare container terminal at Port of Sohar begins shortly, operational in 2014. As part of the expansion deal, container-terminal operator Hutchison Whampoa has signed an agreement for developing the 70-hectare container terminal for Oman International Container Terminal which will raise capacity from 800,000 Twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 1,500,000 TEU's. Port of Sohar is a deep sea port in the Middle East situated in the Sultanate of Oman, 220km northwest of its capital Muscat. The management of this industrial port lies with Sohar Industrial Port Company SAOC (SIPC), a 50/50 joint venture between the Government of Oman and the Port of Rotterdam. Port of Sohar houses three clusters: logistics, petrochemicals and metals.

Sohar Port Receives 1,000th Vessel

The 9,000 metric tonne MV Maria, owned and operated by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, berthed at the container terminal C Steinweg Oman (CSO). On board was a 300-tonne gas turbine due for installation at a new power plant under construction in the Batinah area. The arrival of the 1,000th vessel this early augurs well for a significant increase in ship calls during 2012. When compared with figures for 2011, Port of Sohar received its 1,000th vessel in September of the year, notching up a tally of 1,474 calls by year’s end. The CSO Terminal handles industrial project cargo, among which many heavy lifts, a variety of break-bulk cargos (aluminium ingots and sows, steel billets, steel coils, steel pipes and tubulars, steel plates, and so on), dry-bulk and RO-RO cargo.

China Rongsheng Heavy Industries christened the first of two 380,000 DWT Very Large Ore Carriers built for Oman Shipping deliivers another of the same to Vale S.A. China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Holdings Limited today christened the first two 380,000 DWT Very Large Ore Carriers (“VLOC”) built for Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. (“Oman Shipping”). The vessels will set for sea trial and enter into the final delivery stage soon. In addition, the Group has also delivered the third 380,000 DWT VLOC to iron ore mining giant, Vale S.A. H.E. Dr.

First LNG Carrier to Oman Drydock

One of the biggest and most modern ship repair yards in the Middle East, Oman Drydock Company (ODC), has recently received its first LNG carrier, the Muscat LNG, owned by Oman Shipping Corporation SAOC. As part of its middle term service, Muscat LNG underwent the service operation at ODC during 11 days and was delivered within the estimated 12 days. The service operation for Muscat LNG included the mechanical cleaning of the main boilers and the fire sides. She was pressure tested and the LNG Cargo pumps, the ballast pumps and the safety and mounting valves for the main boiler were overhauled.

Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. (OSC) took delivery of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) “BUKHA”, at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME), Okpo, South Korea. “BUKHA” is designed and constructed according to the latest international standards, and it has advanced ballast water treatment technology to comply with international conventions on the protection of the environment from the effects of transportation of ballast water and sediments around the world.

ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.
