Maritime Data Usage Soars, Inmarsat Says

Cobham Launches 'Next-gen' Antenna Platform

The SAILOR 1000 XTR Ku is the first of a new generation of software-controlled antenna systems in the Cobham SATCOM new SAILOR XTRTM antenna platform line.SAILOR XTRTM integrates SAILOR VSAT technology into a new platform with new software and electronic capabilities that prepare it to operate in future satellite constellations in LEO, MEO, GEO and HEO orbits. Originally developed to guide Allied convoys safely across the Atlantic, the use of synchronized low frequency radio signals as a navigational aid revolutionized modern maritime navigation in the 1940s. Faced with operating ships and aircraft over vast areas, researchers pioneered the use of radio signals to aid navigation in regions where poor weather conditions made traditional methods—such as dead reckoning and celestial navigation—exceptionally difficult. This system was eventually named LORAN.

McMurdo Completes Techno-Sciences Acquisition

Strategic acquisition validates Orolia's McMurdo Group as premier supplier of COSPAS-SARSAT search and rescue solutions, establishes U.S. McMurdo Group, a global company in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, today announced the successful acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), a provider of SAR satellite ground stations, integrated emergency response center systems and coastal surveillance solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TSi’s Beltsville, Maryland location becomes the U.S. Headquarters for McMurdo Group, a division of Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), global specialist in critical Global Navigation Satellite System solutions.

New Allseas Positioning Contract for Veripos

Allseas, a  leader in offshore pipeline installation and subsea construction, has awarded Veripos a further three-year contract for continuing provision of specialist  GNSS positioning services for its entire fleet of vessels headed by the world's largest pipelaying vessel, the 300m Solitaire. Other vessels concerned include companion DP pipelayers Audacia and Lorelay in addition to the DP trenching support and subsea installation vessel, Calamity Jane, the anchored pipelay barge, Tog Mor, and the ROSVs Highland Fortress, Highland Navigator and Highland Rover.
