Inmarsat Signs MOU with Hellenic Space Agency

KVH Ships 8,000th Mini-VSAT System

KVH Industries, Inc. announced that it recently shipped its 8,000th mini-VSAT Broadbandsm system. The TracPhone V-series satellite communications antenna systems utilize advanced satellite technology, including the latest high throughput satellites (HTS), to meet the growing demand for more onboard broadband connectivity.“Our newest HTS systems are in high demand throughout the maritime industry, and build on the strength and reputation of our entire product line,” said Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s chief executive officer.

IoT to Boost Revenues by USD 154 million: Inmarsat

Advances in Sea-State Forecasting

Marine operations such as offshore oil and gas operations, renewable energy projects and shipping depend on high quality information on sea-state (wave height, period, direction, steepness) for economic and safety decision making. The information currently available is based on atmospheric/ocean models and lacks sufficient temporal and spatial resolution. “Wave conditions are always changing and can vary tremendously over a period of a few hours”, said Chelsea’s Technical Manager, Paul Bolton.

Chellsea Expands PSV Order from COSCO, Rolls-Royce

COSCO Shipyard Group announced that it has been awarded options by the Singapore-based Chellsea Group for the construction of four platform supply vessels designed by Rolls-Royce. With this contract, COSCO has ordered integrated design and equipment packages for a total of eight Rolls-Royce UT 771 WP platform supply vessels, with an option for further two. The first four are currently under construction, while the subsequent four are scheduled for delivery between the second quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017. All eight vessels will be added to the fleet of two UT 755 LN vessels that are already in operation with Chellsea.

The role of Inmarsat as sole provider of satellite technology performing to Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) standards is set for advancement, after an IMO Sub Committee decided to greenlight consideration of both FleetBroadband and Fleet One for formal approval. To date, Inmarsat is the only company which has received approval from the International Maritime Organization to provide the GMDSS data and messaging communications on which mariners rely in the last resort, currently via Inmarsat C and Fleet 77 services.

Rolls-Royce Design and Equipment for COSCO

Rolls-Royce has won an order to provide an integrated design and equipment package for two offshore supply vessels to be built at COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard Co., Ltd. in China for the Singapore based Chellsea Group, a company in the offshore oilfield services industry. The two Rolls-Royce UT 771WP platform supply vessels will be the first vessels in Asia featuring the wave piercing bow designed to pierce through the waves in rough seas, making it possible to keep a more constant speed, reduce fuel consumption and increase on board safety.

Sinopacific Orders Rolls-Royce Design, Equipment

Rolls-Royce has announced that it has won an order to provide design and integrated equipment packages for two UT 771 WP platform supply vessels to be built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Co. Ltd (SINOPACIFIC), a shipbuilder in China. The contract incorporates MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series. The UT 771 WP design from Rolls-Royce enhances the ship’s performance due to the signature wave piercing bow, designed to pierce through the waves in rough seas.

Rolls-Royce says it has signed a contract with the shipyard group Vard for its latest DP3 dynamic positioning system to be installed on two new offshore construction vessels. The two vessels will be built at VARD Group, Langsten, Norway and delivered during the first half of 2015. Tognum will deliver 16 MTU marine generator sets with 12V 4000 M23S Ironmen engines for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels (OSV) to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd. in China. The gensets are part of a £26 million Rolls-Royce order to provide an integrated design, power and propulsion and equipment package. COSCO will build the OSVs for a Hong Kong owner. US EPA awards Blue Water Satellite contract to providie satellite data for an epidemiological study of 4 beaches. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a contract to Blue Water Satellite of Bowling Green, OH to provide unique historical data regarding the concentrations of potentially harmful Cyanobacteria, Chlorophyll-a, and Phosphorus at four Great Lakes beaches. This historical data will be used as part of an epidemiological study to potentially correlate concentrations of various biological constituents with human health effects.
