Canadian shipbuilder Seaspan Shipyards announced it is investing $1.35 million to increase training and apprenticeship opportunities for Indigenous students aged 19 through 30 interested in building a career in the trades, including in the growing shipbuilding and marine sector. In 2011, Bouchard Transportation Co. establishes the Morton S. Bouchard Jr. Memorial Scholarship fund, which is designed to recognize deserving cadets who demonstrate the achievement and leadership ability to successfully pursue a career in the petroleum barge industry. The scholarship has since been formed at SUNY Maritime College, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and Texas A&M University at Galveston.

The trustees of the Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship Trust have awarded the scholarship for 2017 to Taryn Loutit. Loutit is a fourth year mechanical engineering student at the University of Victoria with a passion for and an objective to pursue a career in naval architecture and marine engineering. She has an outstanding academic record and has completed five co-op work terms with marine-related businesses. The Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship Trust was initiated in 1982 from a bequest by the late Robert F. Allan, and with support from his many industry friends and colleagues.

ExxonMobil and its employees contributed a total of $45.4 million to institutions of higher education across the country as part of the ExxonMobil Foundation’s 2015 Educational Matching Gift Program. ExxonMobil employees, retirees, directors and surviving spouses contributed $13.2 million, which was matched with $32.2 million in unrestricted grants from the ExxonMobil Foundation. The program matches donor pledges on a 3:1 ratio up to $7,500 to qualified colleges and universities in the United States, along with the American Indian College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the United Negro College Fund. Since the Educational Matching Gift Program began in 1962, more than $600 million has been contributed to American institutions of higher learning.

The State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College said it will honor two industry leaders at its annual Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner on Tuesday, May 6. The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Vander Clute Hall on the SUNY Maritime College campus. All tables to the event are sold out. At the event, the College will honor Richard A. Angerame, Class of 1973, President and CEO of utiliVisor, and Morton S. The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced today it has established the Douglas Munro Scholarship Fund. My dear friend and ex-boss from Texas Oil & Gas, Mike R. Dixon died April 25, 2011. "He was a great man" are the words his children use to describe him. And that he was. The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced a fundraising drive for its emergency Family Disaster Relief Fund in response to the Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crash off the coast of La Push, Washington this past Wednesday, July 7th, that claimed the lives of three servicemen. The crewmembers of CG-6017 were based at Air Station Sitka, Alaska. The Coast Guard Foundation is seeking financial support for the Family Disaster Relief Fund. This fund provides immediate assistance to the families of the fallen crewmembers as they deal with this tragedy, and will provide comfort for other Coast Guard families who find themselves in similar devastating circumstances.
