Crowley Vessels Receive AMVER Awards

Crowley Maritime Corp. announced that 65 of its vessels were recently recognized for participation in the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) program, a computer-based voluntary global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. The awards were given during the U.S. Coast Guard’s NAMEPA Safety at Sea Seminar dinner, an event designed to bring industry and government leaders together each year in Washington D.C. All 65 Crowley vessels were given a certificate of merit for participation, with eight company vessels receiving additional pennants for their continuous, long-term dedication to the program.

Jaenichen to Close Safety at Sea Seminar

U.S. Maritime Administrator, Paul “Chip” Jaenichen will close the "Safety at Sea" National Maritime Day Seminar hosted by North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA). The seminar, to be held May 21 at the National Press Club from 2-5:30 p.m., will bring industry and government leaders together to discuss concerns about safety and strategies for meeting them. Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen to Close NMDay 2014

Acting Maritime Administrator, Paul “Chip” Jaenichen will close the “Safety at Sea” Seminar being hosted by North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) at the National Press Club from 2:30-6:00pm. NAMEPA’s seminar will join industry and governmental leaders as they discuss issues of the day surrounding Safety at Sea. The seminar is designed to highlight both best practices and opportunities for improvement. Immediately following the “Safety at Sea” seminar is the AMVER Awards Dinner where over 150 companies will be recognized for their participation in the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) system.

WISTA Japan Debuts at Executive Committee Meeting in Singapore

Karin Orsel, President of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) announced during the recent WISTA Executive Committee meeting the formation of  WISTA Japan. This brings the total number of WISTA chapters to 34 globally. “One of the highlights of this meeting in Singapore was the official founding of WISTA Japan. Thanks to the commitment of Yoriko Ishida, and Shoko Kaminori, Japan now is the 5th Asian country with its own WISTA Chapter” stated Orsel. The Executive Committee of WISTA meets twice a year regarding the administration and direction of the organization.
