SeaKing Delivers Ferry Upgrades for DFDS

SeaKing completed extensive upgrade work on three shortsea ferries operated by DFDS Seaways of Denmark.The four-week project took place at Damen Dunkerque Shipyard in France involving MS Dunkerque Seaways, MS Dover Seaways and MS Delft Seaways.SeaKing Electrical managing director Dave Gillam said a 10-man team of engineering specialists were sent to complete the job.ā€œWork consisted of electrical upgrades to improve entertainment reception to 80 cabins and fitting of VDSs (Variable Speed Drives) to car deck vent fans,ā€ he said. ā€œA total of 16 VDSs were fitted on decks 3, 5 and 10 on each ship.

SeaKing Electrical Wins Windermere Ferry Repair Deal

Birkenhead, Merseyside based maritime engineering company SeaKing Electrical has won a tender from Cumbria County Council to repair the electrics on the council-owned car ferry the Mallard following a fire earlier this year.The ferryā€™s engine room caught fire in March following a hydraulic leak causing an evacuation of 80 people from the vessel while it was operating on Lake Windermere in Englandā€™s Lake District. The Mallard has capacity for 100 passengers and 18 cars.SeaKingā€¦

Cammell Laird Launches Claire House Charity Kite Boat

Merseyside shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird held a special ceremony to launch a unique kite boat designed to raise funds for charity Claire House Childrenā€™s Hospice. The ā€˜CL Challengerā€™ was designed by retired shipyard naval architect Bill Owen incorporating a kite as the main power source to propel the vessel. The eco-friendly vessel also generates electric power for radio, lights and GPS through batteries charged via solar panel. It will now be used by a team of intrepid kite surfers for a range of sea-faring challenges to raise vital cash for the Bebington childrenā€™s charity.

SeaKing Bags Mersey Ferries Framework Agreement

Birkenhead based SeaKing Electrical has been appointed to a four-year framework agreement for Mersey Ferries. The maritime firm, which has supported the ferry fleet for many years, has been formally accepted onto the marine engineering consultants framework for Mersey Ferries until 2019. SeaKing Electrical managing director Dave Gillam said the business will offer a complete maintenance and support package for the entire fleet ā€“ including the Snowdrop, which was recently repainted in the dazzle design of British pop artist Sir Peter Blake.

SeaKing Electrical Strikes Transatlantic Service Agreement

Merseyside based SeaKing Electrical has secured a transatlantic service agreement with a manufacturer of green technology for the maritime sector. The Birkenhead and Aberdeen business will be supporting Hyde Marine Inc. with its delivery of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). Hyde Marine is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., where the company designs and manufactures the Hyde Guardian GoldTM BWTS that combines efficient filtration and Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of seawater. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange listed Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC). SeaKing managing director Dave Gillam said the ā€œgreen waterā€ systems are set to play a major role in the global shipping sector.

SeaKing Invests in Sector-specific Training

Merseyside industrial engineering firm SeaKing Electrical said it has undergone a major investment in staff training in a bid to drive growth in the marine, offshore and windfarm sectors. The Birkenhead-based company has invested across a number of areas including offshore survival training and working at heights. Staff have undergone rigorous courses at the Offshore Survival Centre at Blackpool and The Fylde College, which is the only site on the U.K.'s west coast to deliver offshore survival training programs.
