ABB Digital Application for MXP Turbocharger Self-service Maintenance

The first digital application for condition-based maintenance of an ABB turbocharger has been developed for the new marine auxiliary turbocharger, MXPTM. Presented to the global marine industry at SMM 2016 in Hamburg, the MXP app is the first time ABB Turbocharging has developed a solution fully enabling ‘self-service’ by the ship’s crew based on condition. It represents the next phase in launching MXP which will be commercially available in 2017. The application designed for web and mobile devices gives vessel owners and operators the flexibility to set cleaning and inspection intervals to suit their service requirements, maximizing uptime. At pre-set intervals, the app provides notifications for the turbocharger components’ condition to be assessed.

SAFETY ALERT – Inflatable lifejackets

SAFETY ALERT – Inflatable lifejackets equipped with Hammar Hydrostatic Inflator manufactured before 2006. This Safety Alert was recently distributed to shipping authorities and advertised in the trade press, boating magazines and digital media worldwide. The Hammar Hydrostatic Inflator is attached to the lifejacket with a sealing ring. In 2006, CM Hammar upgraded the sealing ring with new state of the art raw materials, to eliminate potential defects and increase long term durability. A small number of sealing rings manufactured before 2006 have suffered premature material degradation, most likely after being exposed to extreme environmental conditions.

Pipe, Pump, Values: Walform M Plus : Leak Free pipe connections

The Walform M Plus pipe connector system developed by GKN Walterscheid in Germany and marketed exclusively in Great Britain by Stauff UK is designed to deliver a new dimension of safety and reliability to pipework systems for British Warships. There were opportunities to introduce the latest connection technology for future builds, that would provide significant performance improvements as well as cost reductions. Therefore the MoD (Navy) with Stauff and Walterscheid at Qinetic in Rosyth entered into the most exhaustive test program ever carried out on pipe work couplings by the M.o.D. At the end of the program Walform M was given full M.o.D. (Navy) approval for use on Cupro - Nickel 70 / 30 pipework for all future work.
