Metal Shark Launches New Website

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark has announced the launch of its new website. The new metalsharkboats.com features an all new design boasting fresh content, increased functionality, and robust search tools that facilitate navigation within the company’s vast product portfolio. “Metal Shark has expanded its focus to include a diverse range of markets, so we tasked ourselves to create an easily navigable website that allows us to reach the right customers with the right products and message,” explained Josh Stickles, Metal Shark’s vice president of marketing.

Offshore Oil & Gas: Floating Production Market a Bright Spot

Despite industry gloom about the offshore market, orders for production floaters continue to flow. Over the past few weeks a speculatively-ordered FLNG found use off Africa, negotiations began to convert a third LNG carrier to an FLNG, an FSRU was ordered and a modified LNG tanker has been leased for storage use. Looking forward, we are tracking 30 projects considered likely to generate contracts for floating production units over the next 18 months. Among the likely awards are 18 FPSOs, 2 production semis, 5 LNG liquefaction or regasification units and 5 FSOs.

Knovel Launches Marine Engineering/Architecture Subject Area

Knovel, a provider of a web-based application that integrates technical information with analytical and search tools, announced its 32nd subject area: Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. Developed for design engineers in the engineering design and construction and oil and gas sectors, the collection helps engineers specify and design ships, marine equipment and offshore structures for longer service lives, more efficient operation and safer conditions for workers. This subject area will help engineers with practical design guidance on offshore platform and ship design and performance; adapting machinery and equipment for use in marine environments and improving performance of marine engines, pumps and electronics.

House of Representatives Issue Conference Report

The U.S. House of Representatives issued the Conference Report on H.R. 4775, the 2002 Supplemental Appropriations Act for Further Recovery from and Response to Terrorist Attacks on the United States. The following items may be of particular interest to the maritime community. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) received $2 million to address critical mapping and charting backlog requirements. Of the unobligated balance available, $5 million previously appropriated to the Maritime Administration for the federal maritime loan guarantee program (Title XI) is rescinded. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) received $105 million for additional port security grants…
