Samsung Heavy Delivers LNG Pair for MISC

Superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Vice Adm. Jack Buono announced his retirement after a maritime career that has spanned more than 45 years.Vice Adm. Buono, a 1978 Kings Point graduate, has spent the past three and a half years at the Academy helm, and will relinquish command at a ceremony in June 2022. His successor has not been announced.“For Ginger and I, serving as the Superintendent and First Lady of the Academy has been the honor of a lifetime,” Buono said. “The young women and men who come here are truly the best and brightest America has to offer.

Crowley Acquires Three SeaRiver Tankers

Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has completed its acquisition of three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc. and is now chartering the vessels back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms.The tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, now under Crowley ownership and operation and renamed Washington and California respectively, each have a capacity of 760,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries. The tanker SR American Progress, renamed Oregon, has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between the U.S.

Crowley to Buy Three Tankers from SeaRiver

Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has signed an agreement to purchase three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc., and charter them back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms. The deal is subject to regulatory approval. Included in the acquisition are the tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, each of which have a capacity of 800,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries; and the tanker SR American Progress, which has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between U.S. gulf and East Coast ports. Crowley said it will now work with regulators to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals to serve the Alaska and West Coast markets.

Aker Delivers Tanker to SeaRiver Maritime

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI) has delivered its second Aframax tanker to SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., Exxon Mobil Corporation’s U.S. marine affiliate. The 820 foot long, 115,000 deadweight ton tanker was delivered within the timeframe most recently reported by AKPS and will transport up to 800,000 barrels of Alaskan North Slope crude oil from Prince William Sound, Alaska to the U.S. West Coast. The vessel is equipped with double hull protection, the latest navigation and communications equipment, and an energy efficient engine. “Delivery of this vessel marks the conclusion of a successful project that has transformed our company for the better. We are proud of the Eagle Bay and are confident that she will serve the SeaRiver organization well over the decades to come.

SeaRiver Names New US-flag Tanker

Eagle Bay, the second of two new U.S.-flag crude oil tankers for Exxon Mobil Corporation’s marine affiliate SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., was named at a ceremony at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. The first-in-class vessel constructed at the shipyard incorporates the latest safety, navigation and engine room technologies and will begin supplying crude oil from Alaska North Slope to refineries along the U.S. west coast later this year. The double hull Eagle Bay is 820-feet long and has capacity to carry 800,000 barrels of oil. SeaRiver Maritime said its contract with Aker for two tankers, valued at $400 million, delivered an economic boost to the greater Philadelphia region where it generated employment and millions of dollars in revenue.

Aker: 4 Tankers Now Underway at Phila. Shipyard

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA (Oslo: AKPS), celebrated two significant ship milestones this week. Today, the shipyard held a ceremonial Keel Laying for the second of four product tankers that it is building for its joint venture with Crowley. Early in the day yesterday, construction began on its fourth product tanker in the same series. At the Keel Laying ceremony, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks before the 580 ton unit, which will be part engine room of the completed ship, was lowered into place in the dry dock. This tradition dates back to early shipbuilding and signifies good fortune and safe travels.

American Commercial Lines presented Marine Environmental Stewardship Awards on Wednesday, July 16 in Houston, Texas, recognizing 35 customers for safe handling of chemicals, petroleum products and other liquid cargos. Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Ratchets Up Q1 2014 Profit

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (AKPS) has reported its highest ever quarterly result, with an EBITDA of USD 24.2 million and net income of USD 17.8 million, an increase relative to Q1 2013 of 27% and 48%, respectively. Aker Starts Building First Product Tanker for Crowley

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA (Oslo: AKPS), began production activities today on the first product tanker that it is building for its joint venture with Crowley. Crowley and APSI have signed contracts for the first four tankers, with a total contract value of approximately $500 million. A small ceremony with representatives from Crowley and APSI was held in the shipyard’s Fabrication Shop to commence cutting on the ship’s first steel plate. That plate will become part of the double hull of the tanker that protects the cargo tanks. When completed in 2015, the vessel will be 600 feet long and be capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products.

Aker Philadelphia Welcome Back Governor Corbett

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI) has welcomed Governor Corbett back for an update on the state of the shipyard and a tour to view progress on the current tankers APSI is building for SeaRiver Maritime. The last time Governor Corbett visited APSI was in September 2011 for the contract signing of the very same tanker program. Since Governor Corbett’s initial visit, the yard has reached its steady state employment of over 1,000 employees and has a backlog secured out Q3 2016, with two tankers for SeaRiver Maritime, Inc. underway and four product tankers for Crowley behind them.

Commercial Barge Line Company Announces Results

Company announces offering of $650 million senior secured term loan. Commercial Barge Line Company  announced results for the quarter and year ended December 31, 2012. For the year, the Company reported total revenues of $811.6 million and Adjusted EBITDAR of $232.1 million. Compared to 2011 results, revenues declined $41.4 million, or 4.9%, while Adjusted EBITDAR improved by $57.8 million, or 33.2%. ACL to Haul for SeaRiver Maritime

American Commercial Lines Will Transport Petroleum Products by Inland Barge for SeaRiver Maritime Inc. American Commercial Lines (ACL) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with SeaRiver Maritime Inc., a marine affiliate of Exxon Mobil Corporation, to provide petroleum barge transportation services on the U.S. inland waterways. As of January 1, 2013, ACL has entered into a multi-year agreement with SeaRiver to transport liquid cargoes via its mainline service and in unit tows. U.S. Shipyard Delivers Tankship to Crowley

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard delivers its first Veteran-class MT-46 product tanker to Crowley Maritime Corp. This is the thirteenth product tanker that the shipyard has completed and the seventeenth vessel overall. The product tankers are 600 feet long and have a cargo capacity of 46,000 dwt. The ship is named the Pennsylvania and is the first vessel that AKPS has delivered to Crowley. As stated in AKPS’s release on 21 August, 2012, Crowley will also take delivery of the next product tanker, Hull 018, when it is completed in February 2013.

Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (Oslo: AKPS), a leading U.S. commercial shipyard, has held a ceremonial keel laying for Ship 018, the 14th product tanker being built at the yard. The small ceremony was conducted with the most recent class of the shipyard’s Apprenticeship Program and two apprentice graduates who have risen to the position of supervisor. The Apprenticeship Program is a three year, accredited program administered by the shipyard that provides a combination of classroom and on-the-job training to create the next generation of shipbuilders.
