Columbia Shipmanagement, Seatrans Form Ship Management JV

Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) announced it has partnered with Norwegian ship owner and operator Seatrans AS to form a ship management joint venture.The company will be named Stödig Ship Management AS will become operational from the beginning of May 2021, operating out of Seatrans’ offices in Bergen, Norway. All Seatrans’ staff will remain employed in the company.Mark O’Neil, president and CEO of CSM, said, “In Columbia Shipmanagement we recognize the particular expertise and skill sets associated with managing ships in the hard chemical trades and other special tonnage markets.

Two Die, Ten Rescued as Russian Cargo Ship Sinks in Black Sea, Off Romania

Two people died and ten were rescued after the Russian cargo ship Volgo Balt 179 sank in the Black Sea off Romania early morning on Thursday, according to reports from Romania.Romanian offshore services company GSP Offshore said that its GSP Falcon offshore vessel had received a distress call from the cargo ship at 4:40 in the morning.GSP said that the rescue operation started in extremely difficult weather conditions with strong wind and high waves."The last message sent by "Volgo Balt 179" was the abandonment of the ship. A RoRo cargo ship operating in the North Sea will be fitted with two of Norsepower’s largest Rotor Sails, reducing the vessel's total emissions by as much as 25%. Seatrans Ship Management and DNV GL ink ECO Insight contract

The Norwegian company Seatrans Ship Management has signed up 20 vessels to the DNV GL fleet performance management solution ECO Insight. The contract covers 13 chemical tankers and seven dry-cargo vessels. “We need to have full insight into the performance of our fleet and use this to continually improve our operations. ECO Insight will help us to achieve this,” says Gisle Rong, Managing Director Seatrans Ship Management. “The fact that it is also easy to install and allows us to harmonize operational and technical reporting onboard were also important factors for choosing ECO Insight,” he adds. “We are very pleased to welcome Seatrans Ship Management to the ECO Insight family.

Harris Corp Acquires CapRock Communications

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire CapRock Communications, a global provider of mission-critical managed satellite communications solutions for the energy, government and maritime industries. Established in 1981, CapRock managed network solutions include multiband, portable and fixed satellite communications services supported by its teleports and network operations centers around the globe. CapRock designs, implements and operates these end-to-end managed network solutions under long-term contracts. Under the terms of the agreement, Harris will purchase privately held CapRock for $525m in cash, subject to post-closing adjustments.

Seatrans AS Increases Safeguards

Concateno, a European chemical, drug and alcohol testing provider, has been selected by Norwegian shipping company, Seatrans AS, to monitor the potential exposure of its seafaring crew to benzene. Concateno provides a unique service for monitoring personnel for benzene, and its maritime test service was runner up in the Safety at Sea Seatrade Awards last year. Appointed by Seatrans, Concateno will establish and implement an effective program to test and monitor benzene levels among crew members and assess the risk of exposure onboard Seatrans vessels.
