Injured Mariner Medevaced from Tanker off Florida

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a man Thursday who sustained a head injury 90-miles east of Jacksonville. A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced the 33-year-old man from the vessel Eagle Texas, an 800-foot tanker homeported in the Marshall Islands. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center watchstanders were notified Wednesday of a crew member who fell into a cargo hold and sustained a head injury. The vessel was 300-miles east of Jacksonville and changed course to rendezvous with rescue crews.

Coast Guard Medevacs 19 Crew from Cargo Ship

Nineteen sick crew-members, thought to be suffering from food poisoning aboard the 584-foot cargo ship 'JS Comet' have been hoisted from their anchored vessel 3 miles off Port Canaveral, Florida. USCG informs that two MH-60 helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater safely hoisted the crewmembers from the vessel in 35 knot winds and five to 6-foot seas associated with Tropical Storm Arthur. Due to deteriorating weather conditions and the crew’s symptoms worsening, the Coast Guard determined the safest course of action was to evacuate the patients via helicopter rather than a Coast Guard smallboat. USCG Responds to Vessel Fire

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported it is responding to a report of a vessel that caught fire and became disabled with two men and a dog aboard south of the McCormick Bridge in the Intracoastal Waterway in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Thursday. A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport, Fla., is currently on scene with the vessel, the fire is extinguished and there are no injuries reported, the USCG said. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center of the situation at 7:54 a.m. The men were reportedly transiting from Palm Cove Marina in Jacksonville aboard the 33-foot sport fisher Day Tripper when the boat caught fire.

USCG Responds to Sailing Vessel Allision

Coast Guard Station Mayport crewmembers responded to a report of a sailing vessel that allided with the Main Street Bridge Thursday in Jacksonville, Fla., in the St. Johns River. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the incident at approximately 12:06 p.m. Station Mayport crewmembers were launched to respond at approximately 12:20 p.m. Jacksonville Fire Rescue crews were also on scene and helped tow the sailing vessel, Celer, to the boat landing at the River City Brewing Co. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews were also on scene. The two mariners aboard the Celer did not report any injuries.

USCG Tows Disabled Yacht into Jacksonville

Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Diamondback are towing a 70-foot motor yacht Wednesday and are scheduled to arrive at the entrance to the St. Johns River at approximately 9 p.m. There, the tow will be transferred to a 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Station Mayport, Fla., and the Belle Amie will be brought to St. Johns Boat Company. Five people aboard the Belle Amie were in distress approximately 50 miles east of Fernandina Beach, Fla., while the yacht was taking on water following a fire aboard Wednesday morning. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the situation at 8:47 a.m. Wednesday. At 9:40 a.m., the five adults aboard extinguished the fire but the vessel continued to take on water.

USCG Responding to Vessel Taking on Water

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said its crews are responding to a report of five mariners in distress aboard a vessel taking on water following a fire aboard the 70-foot boat, approximately 50 miles east of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Wednesday. According to a USCG news release, watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the situation at approximately 8:47 a.m. Wednesday. The mariner stated there was a fire aboard the vessel Belle-Amie, which had five people aboard. As of 9:40 a.m., the five adults aboard extinguished the fire but the vessel continues taking on water. All five people have reportedly donned life jackets as a precaution. The mariners report the vessel has lost all power and is currently dead in the water.

Injured Freighter Crewman Medavaced

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew from Savannah, Ga., medically evacuated a freighter crewman who was injured on the motor vessel New Pacific more than 200 miles east of Atlantic Beach Wednesday. The man was hoisted from the vessel, flown to Naval Station Mayport, Fla., and transferred by EMS to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., in stable condition. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified Tuesday night the man suffered a puncture wound to the neck and was in need of medical assistance. Wednesday morning a medic from a nearby U.S. Navy vessel, which was in the area at the time, was transferred to the freighter to assess the injured man’s condition and administer triage and medication.

Barge Sideswipes Terminal Pier near Jacksonville

The Coast Guard responded after a 700-foot barge broke free from its mooring near downtown Jacksonville, Fla., at approximately 8 p.m., Wednesday. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center received notification from Crowley Marine that the 700-foot barge Miami broke loose from its mooring and sideswiped the Crowley Terminal pier and the tugboats Ensign and Patriarch. According to Crowley, the barge broke free of its mooring as a result of severe weather in the area.
