Maersk Supply Service Wins Contract With Quadrant Energy
Maersk Master and Maersk Mariner, Maersk Supply Service’s two first Starfish-class anchor handling vessels built in 2017, will be on contract with Quadrant Energy in Western Australia, commencing March 2018. Both vessels will support Quadrant Energy’s Phoenix South and Van Gogh drilling campaign which will initially cover three wells for a duration of 150 to 200 days. Singapore Shipyard Contracted for Ultra-deepwater Drill Rig
Sembcorp Marine, Jurong Shipyard gets US$ 568-million contract for semi-submersible deepwater rig for North Atlantic Drilling Ltd. The new rig will be constructed based on the Moss Maritime CS60 design – an enhancement of the Moss Maritime CS50E MKII harsh-environment ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rigs West Pegasus and West Leo which were delivered by Jurong Shipyard to Seadrill in March 2011 and January 2012 respectively. Delivery is scheduled no later than the first quarter of 2015.
Seadrill Orders Semi-Submersible Rig Ordered from Jurong
Seadrill has entered into a contract to build another ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. The turnkey contract has a net total project value of $531.5m with scheduled delivery of the unit in April 2010. The rig is based on the Friede & Goldman (F&G) design and is similar to the two units Seadrill already has under construction at the Jurong Shipyard. The new semi-submersible rig will be dynamically positioned and capable of operating in water depths up to 10,000 feet in challenging deepwater areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, offshore Brazil and West Africa. The unit will have 18,000 sq. ft. of usable deck space and 7,000 metric tons of variable deck-load.
Korean Shipyard Gets Orders for Two Liftboats
The value of this contract is approximately US$ 1.1 billion and the rigs will be delivered in the middle of 2015. After delivery, these rigs will be chartered by Statoil, the Norwegian state oil company for eight years, and they will provide services to the Norwegian Coast, the North Sea, and Polar Regions. Statoil is operating a ‘Category-D’ oil well exploitation project on the Norwegian continental shelf and it will be possible for these rigs to drill up to a maximum depth of 8,500m in 100~500m of water. These semi-submersible rigs will be 116m long, 97m wide, and fitted with the Dynamic Positioning System which includes a GPS system.

The GlobalSantaFe Development Driller II is the second of two Friede and Goldman ExD-designed fifth-generation dynamic positioning ultra deepwater semi-submersible rig built by Jurong Shipyard for GlobalSantaFe Corporation (GSF), a leading worldwide oil and drilling contractor. The first unit, .GSF Development Driller I. was earlier named on October 12, 2004 by Mrs Christina Bruton in a christening ceremony held in the shipyard.

Aker Kvaerner Awarded Mooring Systems Contracts
Aker Kvaerner has recently been awarded contracts for the delivery of advanced mooring systems with a total contract value of $29.5m. The contracts comprise deliveries both to the offshore and marine industry. The work is undertaken by the Aker Kvaerner subsidiary Aker Kvaerner Pusnes in Arendal. The awards include delivery to the two advanced Aker Drilling H6e semi-submersible rigs to be built at Aker Kvaerner Stord and to five deepwater semi-submersible rigs to be built at Jurong's shipyard in Singapore. Manufacturing of the equipment will take place in Europe and Asia. The delivery dates are scheduled from 2007 to 2009.
Korean Yard Contracted to Build Giant Semi-submersible Rig
Hyundai Heavy, as a turnkey contractor, will undertake all works including engineering, procurement and commissioning for the USD 700 million project. The contract also includes an option exercisable by the owner to order an additional same class drilling rig. The rig will be built at Hyundai Heavy’s Gunsan Shipyard. Equipped with a 1,650 ton Goliath Crane and the world’s largest 1.3 million DWT dry dock, the Gunsan Shipyard has delivered 26 ships since its establishment in 2010.
Jurong Gets $404M Semi-Sub Option
Jurong Shipyard said that SeaDrill Limited (SeaDrill) has exercised the option to build the second unit of the 6th generation ultra deep water semi-submersible drilling rig at a contract value of $404 million. The contract price is based on a turnkey contract with all owner-furnished equipment (OFE) including the 7,500 feet of riser and BOP. In connection, SeaDrill awarded Jurong Shipyard an additional option to build a third unit of the semi-submersible based on the same design and at comparable terms. This option takes effect in August 2006. The second unit of the Friede & Goldman ExD-designed semi-submersible rig, originally on a three-month option and effective October 2005, takes immediate effect with delivery scheduled in November 2008.
Dockwise Secures $63 in Contracts
Dockwise Ltd. announced eleven near-and longer term contracts awarded to its subsidiary, Dockwise Shipping, for the transportation of jack-up drilling rigs, semi submersible rigs and port & marine infrastructure. Total revenues for the contracts are approx $63m, adding $33m to the backlog end of Q1 2009. Dockwise Shipping, in company with industry partners, is to transport the jack up drilling rigs COSL Craft, Shelf Explorer (forth and back), Seajacks Leviathan and Gorilla III to their new assignments in China, Sakhalin, Netherlands and Canada respectively. On behalf of various clients, Dockwise Shipping has been contracted to transport four cranes, dredging equipment, a jack up working platform and an accommodation barge to USA, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt and Angola respectively.
BP Spill Opportunity in Disguise for Rig Builders
According to a June 14 report from Bloomberg, heightened U.S. scrutiny of offshore drilling after the BP spill, the worst in the nation’s history, may spur oil companies to replace aging rigs with new platforms made in South Korea and Singapore. Rig-makers Samsung Heavy Industries Co. and Keppel Corp. stand to benefit from drillers buying $300m-plus semi-submersible rigs. SembCorp Marine Near Winning $400M Rig Job
According to reports, Oil rig and shipbuilding and shiprepair company SembCorp Marine Ltd. S5(1.SG), or SembMarine, Wednesday said it was close to winning an order to build a semi-submersible rig worth around $400 million. SembMarine said its unit, Jurong Shipyard, signed a Letter of Intent with Larsen Oil & Gas unit, PetroMena AS, to build the rig, with the construction contract taking effect in November 2005, and delivery due between the end of 2009 and early 2010.
Tug Purchased by Offshore Rig Moving
Offshore Rig Moving, Larose, La., an affiliate of Offshore Towing, Inc., has purchased ocean-going tug Theresa B. The vessel has been renamed M/V J.A. Hardy. The vessel was repowered in 1985 with Cat 3516 engines with Kort nozzles, and has an ABS loadline certificate. The company markets 10 ocean-going tugs, primarily for the movement of jackups and semi-submersible rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.
Odfjell Invest Orders $645m rig from Daewoo
Odfjell Invest has decided to exercise an option to have one drilling rig built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineerng in South Korea for $645 million, Odfjell Invest said on Friday. The semi-submersible rig, the company's second, will be delivered no later than June 30, 2010, Odfjell Invest said in a statement. UK Returns to Semi-Submersible Rig Building
Britain is to return to the world of semi-submersible rig building for the first time in two decades as prices soar and shipyards in South Korea run out of space. SeaDragon Offshore, a newly-formed company is to take over a former vessel construction facility on Teesside to build the first in a series of three drilling units worth up to $1.5b. As many as 600 jobs could be created at the Haverton Hill Shipyard by SeaDragon which plans to float on either the London or the Oslo stock exchange within 12 months. SeaDragon is backed by Lloyds TSB and has brought in some of the most credible names in the offshore world, including KCA Deutag, a part of the London-quoted Abbott Group, plus naval architects Moss Maritime.
Seadrill Advance Charter Out Semi-submersible 'West Mira'
Seadrill has received a Letter of Award from Husky Oil Operations Limited for a new five-year contract for the newbuild harsh environment semi-submersible rig West Mira for operations in Canada and Greenland. Total estimated revenue potential for the contract, including mobilization and performance bonus is approximately US$1.18 billion for the five firm years. Beacon Order Harsh Environment Offshore Rig
Beacon Holdings Group say they have ordered a harsh environment semi-submersible GM4-D rig from Yantai CIMC Raffles in Singapore, with an option to build a second rig from the shipyard. The rig they have ordered has been given the name Beacon Atlantic, and planned delivery is the fourth quarter of 2016. Mariner Energy Discusses Hornbeck-LEEVAC Announcement
Mariner Energy, Inc. announced that consistent with the scheduled completion of its 2001 drilling program, it released the Noble Homer Ferrington semi-submersible rig and two offshore supply vessels owned by Hornbeck-LEEVAC Marine Services. Mariner has been pleased with the performance of Noble's semi-submersible to date and expects to continue utilization of the rig in its 2002 drilling program. Under the terms of Mariner's drilling contract with Noble, the term of Mariner's commitment to use the Homer Ferrington is not a single continuous period but, rather, occurs intermittently and is subject to the usage rights retained by Noble and those owned by others during their applicable "drilling slots".
Korean Shipyard Gains Drillship Design License
KBR subsidiary Sweden's GVA signs license agreement with DSME for fabrication of semi-submersible rigs. GVA has signed a license agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd (DSME) in Korea for the fabrication of its GVA 4000NCS, CatD Drilling Unit. The concept for the unit is tailor-made by the industry for Statoil primarily for drilling production and well completion in mature fields. SeaDragon II to Get Corrosion Protection System
The second semi-submersible rig to be built for SeaDragon Offshore will have a hull corrosion protection system designed and supplied by Cathelco Jotun. The SeaDragon Offshore project involves the construction of two hulls which will be built in Russian yards and fitted out at Teesside in the U.K. The first of the semi-submersibles is already under construction at the Sevmash yard for completion in 2008. The second hull is to be built at the Vyborg yard and delivered to Teesside in 2009. Cathelco Jotun is supplying an impressed current cathodic protection system for the SDO II semi-submersible. Both of the pontoons will have two transformer/ rectifiers serving a number of hull mounted anodes and reference cells to achieve the optimum current distribution.
Offshore Rig's Canada Deployment Costs Seadrill
Seadrill Limited subsidiary, Seadrill Partners, as part of a settlement agreement, has agreed to non-payment for 37 days hire of the semi-submersible rig 'West Acquarius'. The 37 days off hire were required for the ultra-deepwater harsh environment semi-submersible West Aquarius to complete modifications and repairs in order to meet the regulatory requirements for operations in Canadian waters and for the operator to receive authorization from the Canadian authorities to commence operation. This loss will negatively impact third quarter results.

Seadrill announces favourable first quarter 2013 financial results. • Seadrill completes the sale of 18 tender rigs to SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd. As of March 31, 2013, cash and cash equivalents were US$361 million, an increase of US$43 million compared to the previous quarter. Net cash from operating activities for the period was US$423 million and net cash used in investing activities for the same period was US$1,074 million, primarily related to additional payments for newbuilds and the acquisition of the Songa Eclipse.
Interesting Drydock Ops in Mexico
A novel drydocking operation has commenced in Mexico, following the successful loading of the 11,220 tonnes semi-submersible rig Mata Redonda on the main deck of Zhong Ren 3, the world’s largest semi-submersible barge. Rotterdam-based ocean towage and heavy transportation specialists Fairmount Marine won the contract for the drydocking, using the 50,000 dwt Zhong Ren 3 as the platform. Fairmount President Henk van den Berg says: “The loading of Mata Redonda was performed in complete safety at a position some six miles off Tampico, Mexico. A project team from Tampico’s Bosnar Yard is now busy on the rig’s programme of maintenance and associated works, which is expected to take around 60 days. “This is the first deployment of Zhong Ren 3 as a drydocking platform.
