Sener Completes Basic Engineering for Two Ice-Class Vessels with Carbon Capture

Spain-based Sener has developed the conceptual and basic engineering of two new ice-class vessels equipped with carbon capture systems for the German company Grona Shipping.The two general cargo vessels are 6,000 and 9,100 tons respectively.Both vessels have an LNG propulsion system and incorporate CO2 capture systems, which can be located on top of the LNG tanks or as structural tanks between the two cargo holds. Sener Designs Biofuel Tanker Than Can Capture CO2 from Other Ships

Spanish engineering and technology group Sener said Thursday it had completed the conceptual design of a new sustainable biofuel tanker aimed at supplying biofuels during bunkering operations, that is also capable of capturing CO2 from other vessels.The vessel would be able to carry heavy fuel oil (HFO), very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), biofuels and marine gas oils (MGO), and also store the captured CO2 from nearby vessels."The new vessel has been designed to operate in compliance with the energy efficiency and emission reduction requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

SENER Group Appoints New Leadership

SENER Group announced it has appointed a new president and new CEO to usher in a new leadership phase at the Spanish-based engineering company. Andrés Sendagorta has been named President of the SENER Group, and Jorge Sendagorta Cudós its new CEO.Sendagorta, hitherto Vice President of SENER, takes over from Jorge Sendagorta, who will continue to be linked to the SENER Group as its Honorary President.Andrés Sendagorta holds a diploma in General Management from the Institute for Higher Business Studies IESE (Universidad de Navarra, Spain).

Zamakona Launches Siuana Arctica

Spanish shipbuilding and ship repair company Zamakona Yards reached a new milestone with the launching of the first of two new 69-meter reefer vessels to be built for the Greenlandic shipowner Royal Arctic Line A/S. Launching will take place February 4.The vessel will be named as Siuana Arctica and will replace the existing vessel Pajuttaat built in 1979. Conceptual design is being carried out by the Norwegian company Havyard Design & Solutions.The ship is designed to operate in northwest Greenland and have greater capacity than current ship. SENER Releases FORAN V80R3.0

SENER released a new FORAN version: V80R3.0. According to the company, FORAN new release brings a major improvement in the overall system, unifying the CAD model exchange system. Complete support has been added for the import and export of STEP, IGES, IFC, BREP and STL CAD files. In addition, imported elements will be transformed into FORAN native objects, which will improve performance, consistency and memory allocation.Many modules have implemented interface shortcuts, as well as changes that allow the use of different commands simultaneously, improving considerably user experience.

SENER  appointed Jorge Sendagorta Cudós to be head of the Engineering and Construction area. He was, until now, the country manager of SENER in Mexico. SENER's Engineering and Construction area, which will be managed by Cudós, comprises three Business Units: Infrastructure and Transport; Renewables, Power, Oil & Gas; and Marine. SENER signed a contract with the owner Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido & C.s.r.l for delivering the basic engineering and technical assistance in the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) SBBT unit, which will operate in Italy and the Adriatic. Panfido is one of the most important tug and barge owners in Europe, with 130 years of experience in marine services. This project is co-funded by the European Union through the Poseidon MED II program.The SBBT unit’s design is a combination of a LNG fueled tractor tug (powered unit) and a LNG bunkering non-propelled pontoon of 4,000 cu.

US LNG Exports to Increase: EIA

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)'s latest Short-Term Energy Outlook projects that the United States will export more natural gas than it imports in 2017. The U.S. has been a net exporter for three of the past four months and is expected to continue to export more natural gas than it imports for the rest of 2017 and throughout 2018. The nation’ status as a net exporter is expected to continue past 2018 because of growing U.S. natural gas exports to Mexico, declining pipeline imports from Canada, and increasing exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The U.S. is currently the world's largest natural gas producer, having surpassed Russia in 2009. Natural gas production in the U.S. increased from 55 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2008 to 72.5 Bcf/d in 2016.

First Ocean Voyage of the Training Ship Unión

On its first ocean voyage to Europe, the training ship ‘Unión’ – a large sailed vessel belonging to the Peruvian Navy – called on the port of Cádiz, as part of its second training mission and its first mission with a stop in Europe. On the request of the shipbuilder SIMA and the Peruvian Navy, the engineering and technology group SENER has developed the ship’s complete stability booklet, which required conducting advanced studies of its weights and ballast under various loads.

FORAN Upgraded for Improved Shipbuilding Efficiency

The SENER engineering and technology group has upgraded its FORAN System with important new enhancements following its Shipyard 4.0 Digitalization Strategy, which have been incorporated into the System in the latest FORAN Build, launched to the market in October 2017. The industry is demanding more technological capacity and integration, and this new FORAN release incorporates relevant improvements in the different design packages. The surface ship model, managed as a collection of NURBS patches, is now internally represented by a shell in accordance with the new geometrical kernel of FORAN.

Sierra joined SENER in 1985, growing within the organization and functioning in many management roles. Sener's FORAN Scores in Boxship Design

SENER said that two container ships designed by the Chinese company CIMC ORIC – that are part of a series designed with SENER’s FORAN System – are in operation. BG Diamond and BG Jade that have been launched and are operating in the Pacific Ocean. The vessels were built in Chinese Changhong International Shipyard. The floating ceremony of the first one, BG Diamond, took place in July 2017. The series include 4+4 vessels in total, so there are still six vessels under construction. FORAN system was implemented in this design company in December 2015.
