Lluavi Puts Mexican Shipbuilding on the Map
Strategic Marine Mexico recently launched the second 170.6 ft Crew Boat, the LLuavi, for Arrendadora Ocean Mexicana (Blue Marine). The two 170.6 ft Crew Boats, Aramara and Lluavi, has seen Blue Marine become the only Mexican ship owner to build offshore vessels in Mexico. “Not only is this project a huge achievement for Strategic Marine, but for the Mexican community at large, helping to create over 160 jobs in total. We are confident the Mexican shipping industry will take note, and place a higher priority on in-country investments such as these,” stated Ron F Anderson, Managing Director. Strategic Marine Posts More Firsts
Australian shipbuilder Strategic Marine has broken new ground by winning a contract to build a 23.9m new generation compact tug – the first tugboat signing in the company’s history. The vessel, which has a 60 ton bollard pull, has been ordered by the of – another breakthrough since the Port becomes Strategic Marine’s first client. The steel vessel, which will have a deadweight of 105 tons and a free-running speed of 12 knots, will be powered by a Voith Water Tractor. These propulsion systems have become a byword for safety, reliability and precision in ship-handling and escort applications, with 800 Voith tugs currently operating in 120 ports worldwide.
Strategic Marines to open Mexican Yard
Strategic Marine reported that it will open its first shipyard in the Americas in early 2008 following a joint venture bid with Servicios Navales E Industriales S.A. DE C.V. (SENI) to build two 52m aluminum crew boats for Arrendadora Ocean Mexicana S.A. de CV (Blue Marine Offshore) in Mexico. Strategic Marine already operates yards at its Henderson headquarters in Western Australia, Tuas in Singapore and Dong Xuyen Industrial Zone, Ba-Ria Vung Tau in southern Vietnam. The $11.9m contract will see the two vessels operated by Blue Marine Offshore for its Pemex contract in the Gulf of Mexico. Work on the contract is scheduled to commence this year, before which Strategic will work with SENI to upgrade its existing maintenance facility at Mazatlan on the Mexican west coast.
