Chris Brown to join Miller's

Christopher Brown, formerly Claims Director for Gard, will bring his experience to the UK P&I Club when he joins managers Thomas Miller on August 1. Mr. Brown, 40, trained and qualified as a maritime lawyer in the United States. A Norwegian speaker, he has been with Gard since 1989 and was stationed at its Hong Kong office after 1997. Brown leaves Norway for family reasons and is greatly looking forward to working for the world's largest P&I club. He will spend a year in Miller's London office before transferring to Thomas Miller (Asia Pacific) in Hong Kong as Claims Director for Asia, where he will focus particularly on China.

Knight & Carver Names Brown As CEO

Knight & Carver YachtCenter, San Diego, Calif., has appointed Sam Brown as CEO. For the past 14 years, Brown has served as legal counsel to the company, whose revenues exceeded $12 million last year. Under Brown's watch, Knight & Carver recently opened new sales offices in Shelter Island (San Diego); additional offices are located in Newport Beach, Calif. and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Obituary: Shirley J. Brown

Nov. 10, 1913 - Aug. 9, 2005. Remembered as one of the most influential businessmen in Pensacola's modern maritime industry, Mr. Brown was owner of Brown Marine Service. At its peak, his company operated 16 tugboat and fuel-oil barges, which transported nearly three-quarters of all diesel and gasoline products to Pensacola and other Panhandle marine terminals. Babcock & Brown to Acquire Bluewater Wind

International investment firm Babcock & Brown (ASX: BNB - News), announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Bluewater Wind Delaware LLC and its parent holding companies, including Bluewater Offshore Holdings LLC and Bluewater Wind Holdings, LLC, in an effort to expand its portfolio of wind energy projects and contribute to its goal of developing offshore wind. Hunter Armistead, head of Babcock & Brown's North American Energy Development Group added that Bluewater will continue with negotiations with Delmarva Power toward executing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), in a process that is being overseen by the Delaware Public Service Commission and three state agencies. Former Chief Engineer Arraigned on Vessel Pollution Charges

Patrick K. Brown, a former Chief Engineer of the M/V Fidelio was arraigned today on a six count indictment related to deliberate vessel pollution that was originally returned by a federal grand jury on July 26, 2007. The indictment was announced by Ronald J. Tenpas, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Environment & Natural Resources Division and U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. According to the indictment, Brown was a U.S. licensed Chief Engineer and was responsible for managing and supervising the engine department, including compliance with laws regulating the discharge of oil from the ship.

ACP Awards Legal Counsel Contract for Expansion

Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced today that it has awarded the legal counsel contract for the Panama Canal expansion to Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP. A total of seven top-tier international law firms participated in the bid for this contract, and after careful evaluation of the proposals, the contract was awarded to Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw based on the firm's reputable qualifications and previous work experience with similar projects. Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw will assist in procurement processes for expansion and utilize an interdisciplinary team including members of the firm's Global Project Finance and Development Group headed by Partner Barry Machlin and the International Construction and Engineering Group led by Partners Michael Regan and Nick Henchie.

Brown Named Bureau Veritas Communications Director

Nick Brown has been appointed Bureau Veritas’ new Communications Director, Marine & Offshore Division, the classification society announced. Brown will take up the post from November 2, 2016, replacing Philippe Boisson, who will retire after more than 25 years in the role. Brown joins Bureau Veritas from Lloyd’s Register where he has spent the last nine years, most recently as Head of Brand & External Affairs, Marine & Offshore. He has 25 years of shipping industry experience, starting as a commercial trainee with the Wallem Group in Hong Kong.

Trico Marine Rated As Strong Buy

Deutsche Banc Alex.Brown said on Thursday that it had started coverage of Trico Marine Services Inc., an energy services provider, with a strong buy rating and a $20-a-share price target. Trico shares closed at $16-1/16 on Wednesday. Deutsche Banc Alex Brown analysts said shares could rise from earnings leverage due to offshore oil rig use in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea, expanded deep-water markets of West Africa and Brazil, a projected earnings recovery, and a share price that trades at a discount to its peers. Trico is expected to report a loss of $.63 a share in 2000 and earn a profit of $.67 a share in 2001, Deutsche Banc Alex.Brown said in a research note.

Volvo Penta Names Brown Commercial Marine Sales Director

Dave Brown has joined Volvo Penta of the Americas as director of commercial marine sales. In this new position, Brown will provide strategic and administrative direction and leadership to support overall segment growth. His primary focus will be to secure and maintain effective business relationships with governmental agencies, OEMs, dealers and customers in the marine commercial engine market. He will report to Marcia Kull, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas. Brown has a 17-year background in business development and sales.

LUX Assure Service Agreement Strengthens US Ties

Oil and gas asset integrity and corrosion management firm LUX Assure said it has made strides in developing a presence in the U.S. by establishing a sales and service agreement with Houston-based Brown Corrosion Services Inc. Brown Corrosion Services will be handling the business development of LUX Assure’s innovative corrosion management products CoMic and OMMICA, and handling the deployment of CoMic in the U.S.. LUX Assure will be exhibiting alongside Brown Corrosion Services at the upcoming NACE Corrosion 2014 conference in San Antonio, Texas on stand 1827 from March 9-13.

Boater Rescued from Sailboat Blaze

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the rescue of a boater Monday after the man's 33-foot sailboat caught fire five miles west of Windmill Point in the Chesapeake Bay. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a VHF-FM channel 16 broadcast from Brown at approximately 10:40 a.m., stating his sailboat was on fire. Watchstanders were unable to maintain communications with Brown after the initial broadcast. A good Samaritan contacted the Coast Guard watchstanders and reported they had the burning sailboat in sight.

Carnival Ratings Cut

Deutsche Bank Alex Brown, Salomon Smith Barney and Credit Suisse First Boston have all cut their ratings for top cruise group Carnival Corp. Deutsche Bank Alex Brown and Credit Suisse First Boston downgraded the company to buy from strong buy while Salomon Smith Barney cut ratings to outperform from buy.The downgrades follow Carnival's announcement that second-quarter earnings look weak, in part due to higher fuel costs. First-quarter earnings were in line with Wall Street estimates.

Coast Guard Investigates Slick off U.S. Gulf Coast

According to an Oct. 23 report from Reuters, the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a large brown slick floating near the mouth of the Mississippi River and said it could be weathered oil from the BP spill or just algae bloom. A Coast Guard vessel went out to the orange-brown substance, which stands around 2-3 miles (3-5 km) offshore at Tiger Pass, northwest of Venice, Louisiana, according to spokesman Jeff Hall. Shell Resumes Crude Exports from Forcados Terminal

Royal Dutch Shell has resumed crude exports from the Forcados terminal in Nigeria's restive Niger Delta following repairs after a militant attack, the Nigerian presidency said on Tuesday.   "The Shell Director, Mr. Andrew Brown, informed the President of the resumption of oil exportation through the Forcados terminal following its restoration," the presidency said after a meeting between Brown and President Muhammadu Buhari.   (Reporting by Felix Onuah; Writing by Ulf Laessing; Editing by Ruth Pitchford)

Halliburton's Brown & Root Wins ROV Drilling Support Contract

As a division of Brown & Root Energy International, Services (BRES), SubSea International, Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services to support Burlington Resources, Inc.'s drilling program in the Gulf of Mexico. Brown & Root Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton Company. Operating from onboard semi-submersible Borgny Dolphin, SubSea International's ROV systems. include a custom-built heavy launch and recovery system, a four-point guide wire cursor system and a Pioneer work-class ROV.

Browning Appointed CEO at Austal USA
