Ulstein Says Its U-STERN to Offer a Safer, Smarter Installation of Large Offshore Wind Monopiles

Ship design company Ulstein Design & Solutions has designed an offshore wind installation vessel that it says is "a safer, smarter, and more competitive ship design solution for transporting, upending and installing large monopiles on DP."The patent-pending U-STERN design, according to the company, enables longitudinal storage of monopiles and upending in the ship center line. "This allows the ship to head into the waves during the installation process, minimizing ship motions and fuel consumption, while the U-STERN provides excellent shielding from the waves.

C-Job Naval Architects to Design First Fully-electric Ro-Pax Ferry in Greece

Greek ferry operator Saronic Ferries has partnered with the ship design company C-Job Naval Architects, to develop the design of the first fully-electric Ro-Pax ferry in Greece.Saronic Ferries, the largest ferry operator for the Saronic islands, plans to operate a purely emissions-free fleet by 2040 to all destinations.C-Job delivered an initial design to Saronic Ferries following an extensive sustainable fuel feasibility study.The zero-emission passenger Ro-Ro ferry has a capacity of 800 passengers. The ferry will recharge in the port of Piraeus.

NYK to Study, Trial Emission Reduction Gear On Up to 50 Bulk Carriers

NYK signed a business alliance agreement with Nakashima Propeller, a marine equipment manufacturer that develops and sells ship propellers as well as energy-saving devices, and Fluid Techno, a ship design company with fluid analysis technology, to explore options to help cut greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Specifically, the agreement signed on July 7 aims to verify the effects of energy-saving devices that enhance vessel fuel efficiency by improving water flow generated at the aft-end of ships, select optimal combinations of those energy-saving devices, and install them on existing ships.

Cemre to Build Ferry for Torghatten Nord

Turkey's Cemre Shipyard said it has won a contract from Torghatten Nord AS to build a new double ended Ro-Ro passenger and vehicle ferry for the Norwegian operator.Developed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company, the 117-meter-long double-ended car and passenger ferry with the designation NSD120CFc will normally operate emissions-free in exposed waters on the entire 1-hour transit of the Bognes – Lødingen route in the Northern part of Norway at a speed of 13-14 knots. Corvus' Hydrogen Fuel Cell System Gets AIP from DNV

The Netherlands based ship design and engineering company C-Job Naval Architects said it will open an office in Gdansk, Poland this July.The Gdansk office will pursue new markets particularly in the Baltic and Scandinavian region, with a particular focus on functional and detail design as well as retrofits and laser scanning, the company said. CWind Orders Hybrid Crew Transfer Vessel

Isle of Wight shipbuilder Wight Shipyard Co (WSC) has been contracted by CWind to build the world’s first hybrid surface effect crew transfer vessel, to  service the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore windfarms located 23 kilometers off the Dutch coast.CWind’s long-term charter contract agreement with Ørsted, which operates the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore windfarms, will start in mid-2020. The agreement will cover an initial three-year firm charter with options available for a further two years.WSC said it will manage the build project from its development stage right through to delivery. Norwegian ship designer Ulstein has received a contract to design the fourth expedition cruise vessel for Miami-based SunStone Ships, in their Infinity series.The vessel, which will be constructed at the China Merchants Heavy Industries (CMHI)  yard in China, is a CX103 design featuring the X-BOW and designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions.The SunStone ship design contracts were the first cruise contracts for Ulstein, a ship design company with long experience from the offshore industry. Ulstein Verft to Build DP3 Cable Laying Vessel for Nexans

Nexans Subsea Operations has signed a shipbuilding contract with Ulstein Verft on the construction of a large, DP3 cable laying vessel. CEO Gunvor Ulstein, Ulstein Group, said: “We are very pleased that Nexans, a solid and important player, chooses Ulstein to construct their new flag ship. We have a strong organisation with long experience in delivering advanced vessels. The contract was won in tough, international competition. We look forward to a constructive and fruitful cooperation with Nexans in the years to come”. The vessel will be outfitted for power cable laying, including bundle laying, cable jointing and repair and cable system protection and trenching. Kleven Delivers 116 m Superyacht

Norway’s Kleven has delivered a 116 m superyacht to its owner, Graeme Hart. The vessel left Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway this weekend, heading for Germany, where the final completion of the vessel is to be carried out by mid 2017. “It has been a great pleasure working with Mr Hart and his team on this magnificent project. We highly appreciate the trust they have shown us by placing not just one but two orders with Kleven, in what was a new segment for us,” said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven. The vessel is of type MT 5006 MKII ESV, designed by Norwegian ship design company Marin Teknikk in cooperation with Naval Architect Kyle Dick, of New Zealand based Oscar Mike Naval Architects.
