HAV Design Becomes First European Firm to Design SOV for U.S. market
The Norwegian company HAV Group said Monday that its ship-design subsidiary, HAV Design, had signed a contract with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding to construct a newbuild service operation vessel (SOV) destined for the Coastal Virginia offshore wind project in the U.S.The ship will be built for CREST, a partnership between the U.S. company Crowley and the Danish company ESVAGT."The contract marks the U.S. breakthrough for HAV Design, which becomes the first European ship designer to develop an SOV for the U.S. market," HAV said.The U.S. plans to install 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030.
Rolls-Royce to Power Ice-Class MPV
Rolls-Royce secured a contract to supply a power and propulsion package for an ice-class multipurpose vessel under construction at Keppel Singmarine for Singaporean shipowner New Orient Marine Pte Ltd. The propulsion package includes a 1,650kW and two 3,000kW tunnel thrusters, two US ARC 0.8 main azimuth thrusters and a single 3,000kW retractable thruster. As well as four Bergen B32:40V12ACD and two Bergen C25:33L6ACD generating sets which will supply the requisite power to the £132 million offshore vessel.

Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to establish a new ship design subsidiary early next year by expanding its Mipo Engineering Co, reports Yonhap News Agency. Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to establish a new ship design subsidiary early next year by expanding its Mipo Engineering Co, reports Yonhap. Growing demands for high-end ships such as drill ships and offshore plants prodded Hyundai Heavy to set up the new company, the shipbuilder informed Yonhap. Mipo Engineering will be incorporated into Hyundai E&T, which will be financed by Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Hyundai Heavy plans to increase the number of ship designers to 1,600 by 2018 from the current 350, and the number of employees in the ship inspection sector to about 400.
