MHI Mulls Selling Flagship Shipyard

According to a report in JIJI Press, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries  is considering selling one of its largest shipbuilding plants in Japan to reduce costs.According to the report , the Japanese conglomerate is weighing the sale of the Koyagi plant in the southwestern city of Nagasaki to Oshima Shipbuilding Co., the third biggest shipbuilder in the country.With the sale, Mitsubishi Heavy would effectively withdraw from construction of large vessels carrying resources such as liquefied natural gas. Powerful Air Hoist Lifts 125 Tons

The new EH 125 lifting unit in the test stand

What is believed to be the world’s first air operated hoist with a lift capacity of 125 tons has been manufactured by materials handling and lifting specialists J D Neuhaus. This is the most powerful unit in their EH range of handling equipment. Designated as an EH 125 monorail hoist, the unit operates from a 6 bar air pressure and is equipped with 10kW and 2.8kW rated motors for the lifting and traverse functions respectively. NEVA Opens in St. Petersburg

The Neva-2005 International Shipping, Shipbuilding, Ports and Offshore Energy Exhibition opened in St. Petersburg on Monday. It is held for the eighth time under the auspices of the Maritime Board under the Russian government and under the patronage of the city’s Maritime Assembly. The exhibition organisers have attracted over 500 companies from 40 countries to participate in the event.
