BIMCO Pushes for Shipdex

The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) and MAN Energy Solutions hosted a conference for software suppliers delivering Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to expand the use of Shipdex.Shipdex is the standard protocol for exchanging technical data - such as manuals – electronically between supplier and ships directly, cutting the need for huge stacks of - often outdated - paper manuals.“Honestly, we would have liked to see more suppliers for the conference. It was well received by the participants, and will result in new users, but we would like a much wider adoption of the protocol. WinGD Drives to Digitisation with Shipdex

Maintaining the rapid pace to apply the latest digital technology to its low-speed diesel and dual-fuel engines and corporate processes, engine designer Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (WinGD) has announced its participation in the Shipdex community. The Shipdex organisation has introduced a version of the S1000DTM specification for digital data exchange applied in the aerospace and defence industry, and adapted to the marine sector. This S1000D specification standardizes electronic dissemination of technical data to equipment makers, shipyards and ship owners. WinGD is committed to making all its technical documentation available to ship builders and operators in a digital form, which complies with the precisely defined and internationally established standards in Shipdex.

BIMCO, Shipdex Joins for Data Digitalization

BIMCO and Shipdex have signed an agreement to support the development and exchange of technical and logistic data across the shipping community, and to include BIMCO as an executive member of Shipdex steering committee. The agreement was signed at BIMCO Head office, Copenhagen by Lars Robert Pedersen, BIMCO Deputy Secretary General and representatives from the original nine executive members – Grimaldi Group S.P.A., Mastermind Shipmanagement Ltd., Alfa Laval Tumba AB, MacGregor Group AB, Man Diesel & Turbo SE, Shipdex Consulting Ltd, Yanmar Company Ltd., G&C Shipping Ltd. and Rolls Royce PLC. Rolls-Royce Implements Shipdex for Tunnel Thrusters

Rolls-Royce Marine has implemented Shipdex as the data standard for its range produced in Ulsteinvik, Norway, representing the third Rolls-Royce Marine products to adopt the Shipdex standard.   At present the final published output is in pdf, but the adoption of Shipdex opens exciting possibilities for both Rolls-Royce Marine and its customers, according to Shipdex.   In the future Rolls-Royce will have the ability to deliver an Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP) or complete a data exchange with its customer. If the customer opts for a data exchange, they will be able to load the data into their own Publishing and/or Maintenance Management System.

Shipdex Course Held at Korean Maritime University

The Korean Maritime University (KMU) and the Korean Marine Electronics Industry Promotion Association  (MEIPA) received a one day technical seminar about Shipdex and  the process of importing Shipdex data into SpecTec’s  Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), AMOS. This seminar was held at  KMU in Busan on May 30 thanks  to Yung-Ho Yu, Professor at KMU and Technical Director of MEIPA; Marco Vatteroni,  SpecTec’s  ILS Manager and Shipdex Manager; and Ben Fan, SpecTec’s Sales Director in Asia.

Pompe Garbarino Manuals Available in Shipdex

Pompe Garbarino S.p.A., an Italian manufacturer of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps for marine, naval and industrial fields prepare and release the technical manuals according to Shipdex Protocol . Shipdex is the customization for the shipping community of the international S1000D specification already in use for about 30 years in the naval, land and aerospace military sector and adopted more recently by the Civil Aviation. The first manuals are for the customer Grimaldi and its new Container Ro-Ro ships under construction in Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. AMOS for MAN PrimeServ Academy

MAN Diesel & Turbo reinforces its long-standing collaboration with SpecTec Group, selecting AMOS software as assisting training tool to be used at the MAN PrimeServ Academy in Copenhagen. With the intent to further improve its hands-on training courses, MAN Diesel & Turbo has chosen AMOS (CMMS platform owned and provided by SpecTec Group since 1985) as a teaching tool to show students how to manage and optimize the process of maintenance, inspection and spare part purchase on board vessels. The AMOS database for this project has been created automatically by importing MAN Diesel & Turbo engine data which is standardized in accordance with the Shipdex protocol (www.shipdex.com).

Shipdex Steering Committee and Maintenance Group meetings

On 20-21 September 2011 the Shipdex Protocol Steering Committee (SPSC) and Maintenance Group (SPMG) met in La Spezia (IT) at SpecTec Head office premises. The meetings were attended by the founder members Alfa Laval, Grimaldi Group, MacGregor,  MAN Diesel & Turbo, SpecTec Group, Yanmar and Capt. Eugen Henning Adami that was unanimously elected to the Group as one of the founders of Shipdex. SPSC and SPMG meet on a quarterly basis to discuss the Shipdex Protocol policy, to analyse and discuss the change proposals issued by Shipdex users.

KJ Radio Orders AMOS Shipdex Suite

SpecTec Group and their partner CORENA, a S1000D software and implementation service, announced today that they have signed a strategic contract with Korea based KJ Radio for the AMOS Shipdex Suite. “KJ Radio has selected the AMOS Shipdex Suite, developed by CORENA and distributed by SpecTec Group," confirmed Sang-Hwan Oh, KJ Radio Research Engineer. “It is a big pleasure to...obtain our first customer in Korea – an important market for the global shipping industry,” says Toralf Johannessen, President and CEO of CORENA. World’s Largest Civilian Hospital Ship Back In Action

With four new GenSets from MAN Diesel & Turbo, the civilian hospital ship Africa Mercy is back in action off the coasts of Africa helping to provide free medical care to people in need. The Augsburg-based manufacturer of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery had provided the aid organisation Mercy Ships with four engines of type 5L21/31 at special cost, and these have now been installed in Durban, South Africa. MAN Diesel & Turbo had already given the on-board electricity generators, which cover the entire hospital ship’s power requirements, to the charitable organisation last year.

SpecTec and Corena announced MAN Diesel & Turbo has purchased the AMOS Shipdex Data Manager. “More and more ship-owners require maintenance manuals for new ship acquisitions to be Shipdex compliant. MAN Diesel & Turbo wishes to meet such requirement the best way possible. MAN Diesel & Turbo, SpecTec Cooperation

As a step ahead in the MAN Diesel & Turbo and SpecTec Group cooperation, on October 25, 2010, AMOS BS was installed at MAN Diesel & Turbo's PrimeServ location in . On October 26, 10members of MAN Diesel & Turbo staff were trained on AMOS BS main features, by Kim Pommegard and Jens Ipsen from SpecTec DK. SpecTec ILS Manager, Marco Vatteroni, gave his own contribution, showing how it is possible, in a few minutes, to automatically create an AMOS BS database by importing a MAN Diesel Shipdex dataset using AMOS Shipdex Interface. MAN Diesel & Turbo views this as an important step towards gaining experience with how ship owners deal with maintenance management.

SpecTec, Corena Breakthrough Shipdex Orders

The three companies Corena, SpecTec Group and Intership Navigation announced the first purchase of the AMOS Shipdex supplied by SpecTec Group and powered by Corena. The AMOS Shipdex Suite is for the production, management, use and validation of technical information developed in accordance with the Shipdex Protocol. It is an integrated suite of software tools giving ship owners and operators the benefits of major cost savings in terms of better data quality and improved electronic use. The Shipdex Protocol contains a set of business rules, especially designed for the shipping community, specifying how this industry shall implement the S1000D specification for the production and management of technical publications.

Shipdex Protocol Ready for Use

The 4th Shipdex Conference took place at the MAN Diesel PrimeServ Academy in Augsburg, Germany on Feb. 16, where the Shipdex protocol was declared ready and available for use. Shipdex (Ship Data Exchange) is international business rules (protocol) -based and fully compliant with S1000D, developed to standardize the exchange of electronic technical data within the shipping community. The Shipdex protocol aims to ensure a high quality of technical and logistical data and simplify the exchange of data within the industry. For application service providers, Shipdex is a basic specification for implementing data interfaces from technical manual solutions to maintenance and purchase or any fully fledged ERP systems.

Corena, SpecTec Sign Agreement

SpecTec, world supplier of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to the shipping industry, is the author of Shipdex. Shipdex is an exchange protocol for the digital documentation that is based on the AIA/ASD/ATA S1000D standard. Corena is a world supplier of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf products managing the production, publishing, distribution, and use of technical documentation for complex equipment. Updates on the Shipdex™ Protocol

On October 7th 2008, Digital Ship held its 2nd conference for Shipdex™, a new protocol to provide ship technical information electronically, rather than on paper. Shipdex™ was founded in 2007 by two senior managers of shipping companies, Grimaldi Naples and Intership Navigation, who thought that the industry should move beyond supplying all technical paperwork (including maintenance and repair manuals, lists of spare parts and drawings) as paper documents, which then have to be typed into company maintenance and purchasing systems.

AMOS Business Suite Version 9.0

User interface changes include a themes concept has been introduced allowing users to tailor the appearance of certain aspects of the system. Additionally, the toolbar menu style, task bar, and group boxes have been enhanced and the Dashboard has received both visual and functional updates. The system now opens up to a customizable home page, or dashboard. This dashboard is a visual tool presenting the user with an upfront overview of the most important information. Different users can have different dashboards, depending on their role and needs.

Implementation of Shipdex T Protocol

On June 23rd 2009 at SpecTec Italy Office in La Spezia, the first ShipdexT trial was successfully performed with the participation of ShipdexT Founder Members. The purpose of the trial was to evaluate the first datasets produced by MAN Diesel and MacGregor in accordance with ShipdexT Protocol 1.1 and 1.0.2. The Shipdex datasets have been successfully validated using AMOS Shipdex Data Manager. Furthermore, the validated ShipdexT datasets have been successfully imported into the ISN's AMOS Business Suite database using AMOS Shipdex Interface. Giancarlo Coletta of Grimaldi Group (Naples) said "this is the first important step in a new era for the shipping industry to manage maintenance and technical data and get rid of paper manuals".
