Strong Track-record Wins Repeat MacGregor Orders

A series of new MacGregor offshore winch orders, secured in October, will serve the strong demand for maintenance, hook-up and commissioning services for existing oil platforms within the shallow water region of the Malay basin, says Francis Wong, Director, Segment Sales and Marketing, Offshore. "As oil prices remain high and oil majors continue to invest in exploration and production activities in the region, this has continued to boost the demand for new businesses relating to these services," explains Mr Wong. "Consequently, maintenance work boats and barges are in high demand to serve the needs of the area's oil platforms, many of which are operated by Petronas and Shell.

One More Tug From Shin Yang Shipyard

In 2003, Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd obtained the ISO 9002 certification in shipbuilding and maintenance and related metal fabrication activities. By 2004 the yard had delivered 178 vessels of which 86 were tugboats. In August 2007 the yard delivered their Hull #249, the tug Danum 61. Although the yard regularly builds for export, this 101 x 31-ft. tug was delivered to a Malaysian customer and is registered in Kuching Sarawak. Suitable for work in the offshore oil industry the sturdy vessel includes such features as a marked rescue zone on both port and starboard sides with bulwark doors. On deck a 30-ton towing winch, from Singapore’s ME Winch, carries 2,624 ft. of 44-m/m-diameter tow wire.

BN Shipyard Awarded Contract

According to Business Times, Boustead Naval (BN) Shipyard Sdn Bhd has landed a shipbuilding contract with a private company. Following a takeover in August last year, the new management has delivered two patrol vessels to the Royal Malaysian Navy and is slated to complete the remaining four in three years. Until former commitments with the Government are fulfilled, the company will not be seeking new contracts with them under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, he told reporters. This includes towing oil rigs, relocating drilling rigs and providing supply such as fuel and fresh water to platforms. Ahmad Ramli and Omar, who represented their companies in signing the contract, also performed the keel-laying ceremony by welding two plates. Source: Business Times

Boustead Naval Shipyard Gets Contract

Tanjung Offshore Bhd's unit Tanjung Kapal Services Sdn Bhd has awarded a shipbuilding contract to Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd for an anchor-handling tug and supply vessel. It said on that the construction of the vessel would be financed by internal funds and borrowings. Completion of the vessel is expected to be the third quarter of 2008. The company said the 60-metre vessel would be able to perform as a safety vessel for offshore drilling and workover rigs on 24 hours a day basis. Tanjung said the vessel could also be used for fire fighting, provision of supply and transportation of equipment and cargo between offshore facilities and platforms. Source: The Edge
