Yacht Business Improves – Boat Show Retrospective

There were signs at the recent Palm Beach International Boat Show that the much anticipated turnaround of the yachting industry has begun. Compared to 2011, attendance was up 12 percent cumulatively the first two days of the four-day show. Show Management, the company which produces the boat show, reported more boats on display in several categories this year, including a 35 percent increase in yachts over 100 feet and 29 percent more yachts in the 80 to 100 foot range. Another criterion, exhibitor revenue, increased 5 percent, according to Show Management.

Boat Show at Miami Beach Registered Strong Sales

Attendance at the recent Miami Beach Boat Show based on concession sales and number of people using show transportation at the free-to-the-public event, was up more than 7 percent. Most importantly, notably strong sales activity was reported by numerous builders including Fairline, Viking, Ferretti, Hatteras, Westport and Marquis and brokerages including Allied Marine, HMY and Merle Wood, among others. “The show was a tremendous success this year,” said Andrew Doole, senior vice president and COO of Show Management.

ISS Names Board of Directors

Change in Organization’s Bylaws Specify Revised Board Tenure and Structure. The ISS (International Superyacht Society) announces its 2012-2015 Board of Directors and Past Presidents Council. ISS elections are held annually by peer selection. During 2011, ISS membership ratified changes to the Association’s Bylaws which now state that a total of 24 elected Board members will serve three-year terms. During the 2012, 2013 and 2014 election cycles, the ISS Board will be in transition. For the current year and based on a democratic voting system, ISS members have awarded eight Board positions for three years and four Board positions for one-year terms with the opportunity to re-run for the 2013-2016 term.

Full Speed Ahead for Trinity Yachts

Trinity Yachts, LLC has moved one ) nearly completed yacht and four of their partially built yachts over to their new production facility in Gulfport, Miss. These yachts were towed through the Intracoastal waterways that are strewn with sunken or damaged fishing and pleasure boats left over from Hurricane Katrina. According to John Dane III, President of Trinity Yachts, “The last eight weeks have been very hectic since hurricane Katrina stuck, and with the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show quickly approaching, we really haven’t had a chance to pause and reflect on how far we have come. The modern shipyard based in Gulfport, MS., has over 9 acres/3.6 hectares (392,040 sq. ft./119,493 sq. m) of covered building area situated on approximately 50 acres/20.5 hectares of land.
