The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Marine Design Center (MDC) will soon be releasing a sources sought notice for the construction of the Mat Boat, a 188 x 74 x 10-ftl. deck barge, for the Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) located on the Mississippi River. The barge is to be built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules for Service on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways. The sources sought notice is only for the construction of the barge, shown in Figure B, and not for the final product which incorporates a government furnished robotics package shown in Figure A.

Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company (DNPJSC) has started the second stage of Tien Sa port after two years of construction, bringing its total capacity to 12 million tonnes of cargo per year.The national radio broadcaster Voice of Vietnam quoted General Director of DNPJSC Nguyen Huu Sia saying that the second stage at Tien Sa Port had cost more than 1 trillion VND (44.2 million USD), of which 36 percent was funded by the company.Tien Sa Port is expected to be able to handle 70,000 DWT vessels and 10 million tonnes of cargo a year.The expansion project will cover an area of 60,000sq.m, raising the port’s total area to about 31ha. In addition, two new piers, measuring 310m and 210m in length, will be constructed for docking container ships.

China LNG imports hit record in November, but set to beat that this month. China's state oil and gas majors are set to import record levels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) this month, betting on robust demand during the cold winter months and helping lift Asian prices to their highest in nearly two years. Trade flows data on Thomson Reuters Eikon shows 7.33 million cubic metres (mcm) of LNG, equivalent to 3.33 million tonnes, are heading to China for delivery this month. This includes 10 cargoes from Qatar, an unusually high number even for the world's largest LNG exporter. That would easily top the record 2.66 million tonnes that landed in November, up from 1.81 million a year ago, as a cold snap across the north of the country spurred demand.

China's appetite for crude oil is expected to pick up later this year as storage comes online and new buyers emerge, even after its inbound shipments surpassed United States imports last month for the first time, traders and analysts say. China's crude oil imports hit a record 7.37 million barrels per day (bpd) in April, making it the world's biggest importer for the commodity last month. And despite slowing economic growth, China's crude purchases are expected to keep climbing in second-half 2015, supporting oil prices that have rebounded about 40 percent since touching six-year lows earlier this year due to a supply glut. Airlines in Asia-Pacific are holding off from hedging their fuel costs as they wait for oil to dip below $70 a barrel in hopes of securing lower prices, industry executives said on Friday. The benchmark Brent crude oil price fell more than $6 to under $72 a barrel on Thursday, its lowest since July 2010, after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries opted against cutting production even though a supply glut is pulling down prices. Airlines "hedge" some of their fuel needs - or buy fuel in advance at future, pre-determined prices - to reduce the impact on earnings of any volatility or increases in prices.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) says it has chosen Gordon Hope, general manager of Honeywell's AlarmNet communications network, as the 2014 recipient of the George R. Lippert Memorial Award. Hope, who celebrates 25 years with Honeywell this year, joined the company in 1989 when it was Ademco. He began in marketing, with responsibilities including the control panel family. Over time, he added responsibilities, ultimately becoming director of marketing and then vice president of marketing in 2006. As he rose through the ranks of Honeywell, he also served as SIA Chairman from 2009-2011. “With so many deserving peers nominated for the Lippert Award this year, I am particularly honored to receive it,” Hope said.
