Canada’s Largest Con/Ro Vessel Delivered

The largest Canadian Flag Con/Ro ship will set sail tomorrow from Flensburg, Germany destined for St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Following a series of successful sea trials, Oceanex Inc. accepted delivery of the vessel today as originally scheduled. The Oceanex Connaigra is expected to arrive in St. John’s next weekend, where it will stay for a few days before sailing to Halifax to work the Halifax service while the Oceanex Sanderling completes a short dry dock. The vessel will then move on to Montreal, where it will provide a fixed weekly service between the ports of Montreal and St.

Oceanex Launches Massive Canadian Con/Ro Vessel

A con/ro ship, said to be Canada’s largest, was launched in Flensburg, Germany on Friday, May 31. Representatives from Oceanex Inc., were in attendance for the naming ceremony and launch of its newly constructed, custom-designed 210 meter con/ro vessel. Following the launch, the vessel was hauled to the fitting out quay, where the final details including the bridge and accommodations block will be installed and the vessel readied for delivery in October. Oceanex Is Building Innovation

Seated at his desk with a view of St. John’s harbour, Oceanex Executive Chairman Captain Sid Hynes is highlighting the innovation in the Oceanex Connaigra, Oceanex Inc.,’s 210-m custom-designed container/roll on roll off (Con/Ro) ice class 1A ship that is presently coming to life in the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft mbH & Co. (FSG) shipyard in Flensburg, Germany. Following four years of study and research, the design stage was completed. First steel was cut in October 2012, and the keel was laid on February 11,  2013.

Oceanex: Flensburger to Build Largest Canadian Flag Con/Ro

Representatives from Oceanex Inc., were in Flensburg, Germany last week for the cutting of first steel of what will become the largest Canadian flag container/roll on roll off (Con/Ro) ship. This twenty knot, ice-class vessel, to be named the Oceanex Connaigra, is custom designed for world-wide trade and will be 210 meters in length with a deadweight carrying capacity of 19,500 metric tonnes.
