Chevron Supplies First Stem of 40 BN Category II Lube Oil

Chevron Marine Lubricants said it made its first delivery of a 40 BN Category II lube oil on August 30, in a breakthrough moment for operators of MAN ES Mk9 and above two-stroke engines, when it supplied a stem of its new Taro Ultra Advanced 40 to SIEM Car Carriers.“We are very pleased that Taro Ultra Advanced 40 is now available to our customers and that we have successfully made the first delivery,” said Pat McCloud, General Manager, Chevron Global Marine Lubricants. “From September, it will be available at major ports across Europe and Asia Pacific, including Singapore and Rotterdam.

First Shore-to-ship LNG Bunkering for SIEM Car Carrier

Eagle LNG marked a series of firsts when it fueled the 7,500-car carrier SIEM Aristotle from its Talleyrand LNG Bunker Station at the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) in Jacksonville, Fla. It was the first time SIEM has refueled the vessel from a landside bunkering facility and the first ship that Eagle LNG refueled of that size from the bunkering facility.SIEM Aristotle is the first deep-sea pure car, truck carrier (PCTC) equipped with dual-fuel engines, designed to operate on LNG and marine gas oil (MGO).

Volkswagen Opts for LNG-powered Shipping

The Volkswagen Group said it will use two vessels powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) on routes between Europe and North America from 2019, in a move that aims to improve the environmental balance of its marine transport fleet. “The Volkswagen Group is shouldering its responsibility for the environment. “By commissioning the two LNG-powered freighters for the route between Europe and North America, Volkswagen Group Logistics is forging ahead with environmentally compatible, resource-efficient transport,” Thomas said.

Synapsis INS for New Car Carriers

The German navigation system integrator Raytheon Anschütz has won a contract to supply the latest generation of IMO-certified Integrated Navigation Systems (INS) to three car carriers built by the Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik Brodogradiliste. The Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) will be owned by Cayman Island based Auto Marine Transport Inc. and are scheduled for entering service from end of 2016. The new PCTCs will operate under a long-term charter of Siem Car Carriers AS. Each of the vessels has capacity to carry up to 7,000 cars.

Siem Sells “Siem Sasha”

Norwegian company Siem Offshore has sold the platform supply vessel (PSV) “Siem Sasha”. It has delayed delivery of four of the nine platform support vessel (PSV) newbuildings it has under construction in Poland. The Oslo-listed company did not reveal financial details of the sale nor the client, but said the agreement was made at market terms. Siem Sasha is designed to carry out regular supply functions and cargo transport for the oil industry as well as Standby functions. The PSV was built in 2005. It is of VS 470 MK II design, 73, 4 meters long vessel and can accommodate 34 persons. The vessel had worked on a one-year contract for Nigeria’s Marine Platforms Limited since December 2013. This is Siem’s second vessel sale in the space of a month.

Korean Shipyard Wins Auto Marine Transport PCTC Orders

Auto Marine Transport contracts Samjin Shipbuilding Industries Korea (Samjin) to build a series of pure car & truck carriers (PCTC's). Auto Marine Transport, a tonnage provider created with the assistance of Siem Car Carriers, sign an intiial agreement with the shipyard to build eight energy efficient pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels capable of carrying 6700 CEU (car equivalent units) and is made up of two firm orders and options for a further six vessels. Simon Stevens, Chairman of Siem Car Carriers, said
