CG Approves Siemens SiteIQ

Recently, Port of Wilmington (POW) security officials received the U.S. Coast Guard's permission to leverage its Siveillance(TM) SiteIQ video surveillance system to monitor truckers and port visitors not carrying Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC). Because POW can provide 24/7 monitoring of designated secure areas via its SiteIQ video analytics platform, the port can comply with TWIC mandates without having to physically escort non-credentialed individuals traversing the busy Wilmington, Del. port facility. USTRANSCOM Deploys Container Security System

The United States Transportation Command recently deployed a container security system which detects tampering and helps protect military container shipments moving from to . USTRANSCOM introduced the CommerceGuard container security system, provided by GE Security, Inc., a business of GE Enterprise Solutions, to better protect its container shipments. Based at Scott Air Force Base, , USTRANSCOM directs and supervises execution of the military supply chain for the Department of Defense. Port to Purchase Intrusion Barriers

Tampa Bay Business Journal has reported that the Tampa Port Authority has received a $1.3 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security that will be used to purchase floating small craft intrusion barriers to protect security zones around critical infrastructure. Skip Volkle, legal counsel at shipper Maritrans, raised concerns about the barriers at Tuesday's board meeting, saying that no discussion had taken place with the Harbor Safety Committee. Wainio said the Port of Tampa would meet with the Harbor Safety Committee but that the impact of the devices to the maritime community was going to be minimal. At the close of the submittal period, one bid had been received from Siemens Building Technologies & Wave Dispersion Technologies Inc.

Board Approves Waterborne Security Barriers

Authorizing the expenditure of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Port Security Grant Funds, the Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved an agreement with Siemens Building Technologies for waterborne security barriers. The $2.9m design-build agreement includes the design, fabrication and delivery of 10,000 feet of floating security barriers. The Port of Los Angeles is taking the lead on this joint Port of Los Angeles/Port of Long Beach project which was approved in Round 3 of the TSA's Port Security Grants. Each port will receive 5,000 feet of the waterborne barriers. These barriers will be placed at key locations around the ports during heightened security times. They will provide protection against certain types of attacks and will form a line of demarcation.
