YSA Design Unveils Sail Powered Cruise Ship Catamaran

A newly unveiled concept for a sail-powered catamaran cruise ship aims to offer a luxury cruising experience on board a vessel that can travel emissions free.The unique vessel design--codenamed "Seabreeze"--comes from Norway-based YSA Design, who engineered the 104.5-meter-long ship to feature four 50-meter-high foldable sails mounted on 6-meter-high bases on deck for emissions-free propulsion.“Sustainability is critical but cruise shipping also needs to continuously reinvent itself,” said Trond Sigurdsen, Senior Architect and Partner, YSA Design.

SEA-KIT to Expand Fleet with New 12m USV

Uncrewed surface vessel specialist SEA-KIT International has announced plans to build another of its X-class, 12m USVs as a fleet vessel for launch in 2022. This build, the sixth X-class to be constructed at the company’s Essex base, will pave the way for the company to meet increased market demand for unmanned vessels and to penetrate new sectors of the global maritime industry, the company said.SEA-KIT CEO, Ben Simpson, commented: “Our X-class USV has changed very little since we won the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE with USV ‘Maxlimer’ back in 2015.

New All-Electric Passenger Ferry for Oslo

The Fjords will add another all electric passenger vessel to its fleet Legacy of The Fjords which is now under construction at Brødrene Aa. RRS Sir David Attenborough: Construction Progressing

Cammell Laird shipyard informs it has reached the nine-month milestone in its project to build the U.K.’s new polar research ship the RRS Sir David Attenborough. The Merseyside-based engineering services giant beat off competition from around the world to be appointed to build the £15 0million vessel. The ship, which is the biggest commercial shipbuilding project in Britain for 30 years, has been commissioned by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and it will be operated by British Antarctic Survey (BAS), transforming the U.K.’s polar research capability.

Vision of The Fjords, a futuristic carbon fiber tourist vessel operated by The Fjords DA, has won the Ship of the Year 2016 accolade at SMM in Hamburg. The 40-meter-long, 399-passenger-capacity hybrid craft, which was completed by Brødrene Aa this summer, scooped the award for its unique approach to sustainable, sensitive and high quality operations in the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Nærøyfjord. MAN 28/33D STC Engines for Thai Navy’s New OPV

The Royal Thai Navy has ordered a new 90-m offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to be constructed at Mahidol Adulyadej naval dockyard in Sattahip. The newbuilding, an improved River-class design, will be powered by two MAN 16V28/33D STC engines. Locally called OPV No. 2, the order follows that of OPV No. 1, the HTMS Krabi ordered in 2009, a similar vessel that featured two 16V28/33D engines.

The Fjords DA, operator of seven tourist ships in the Western Norwegian fjords, has revealed the name of the latest addition to its fleet. To be christened Vision of The Fjords, the 40m long hybrid craft is designed to push the possibilities of green technology and passenger experience.
