YSA Design Unveils Sail Powered Cruise Ship Catamaran
A newly unveiled concept for a sail-powered catamaran cruise ship aims to offer a luxury cruising experience on board a vessel that can travel emissions free.The unique vessel design--codenamed "Seabreeze"--comes from Norway-based YSA Design, who engineered the 104.5-meter-long ship to feature four 50-meter-high foldable sails mounted on 6-meter-high bases on deck for emissions-free propulsion.“Sustainability is critical but cruise shipping also needs to continuously reinvent itself,” said Trond Sigurdsen, Senior Architect and Partner, YSA Design.
SEA-KIT to Expand Fleet with New 12m USV
Uncrewed surface vessel specialist SEA-KIT International has announced plans to build another of its X-class, 12m USVs as a fleet vessel for launch in 2022. RRS Sir David Attenborough: Construction Progressing
Cammell Laird shipyard informs it has reached the nine-month milestone in its project to build the U.K.’s new polar research ship the RRS Sir David Attenborough. The Merseyside-based engineering services giant beat off competition from around the world to be appointed to build the £15 0million vessel. MAN 28/33D STC Engines for Thai Navy’s New OPV
The Royal Thai Navy has ordered a new 90-m offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to be constructed at Mahidol Adulyadej naval dockyard in Sattahip. The newbuilding, an improved River-class design, will be powered by two MAN 16V28/33D STC engines. Locally called OPV No. 2, the order follows that of OPV No. 1, the HTMS Krabi ordered in 2009, a similar vessel that featured two 16V28/33D engines.
