A new fishing vessel being built by Simek AS in Norway on behalf of the U.K. operator Antares (Whalsay) Fishing Company Ltd, will feature an integrated Wärtsilä propulsion solution including main engine, controllable pitch propeller and gearbox. According to Wärtsilä, its two-speed gearbox, PTO/PTI and floating frequency solution will provide the vessel with high levels of operational efficiency and flexibility in different operating modes, which were important considerations in the award of this contract signed in June.

PARAT Halvorsen AS to deliver 2 new Oil-Fired Boiler plants to Simek Shipyard, Norway. Parat Halvorsen AS has been awarded in all two oil fired boiler plant contracts with Simek Shipyard for their new buildings 129 and 130, with further one in option. The boilers will be delivered as combined boilers for  both hot water production and steam production. The boiler plants will be equipped with a complete steam injection system for ORO tank heating. Simek Get Order for Versatile Subsea Work Vessel

The contract is for a ship specially designed to carry out  ROV, survey, diving and light construction offshore work, also able to perform work on the construction of  wind farms. Rolls-Royce Wins Simek OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce won a £6 million contract to provide an integrated design, power & propulsion and equipment systems package for an offshore supply vessel to be built at Norwegian ship yard Simek AS for ship owner Atlantic Offshore. The vessel is a Rolls-Royce UT 755 LC design and will be equipped with main engines, propulsion system, steering gear, rudder, deck machinery, bulk handling equipment as well as control and automation systems. The vessel will undertake transport, supply and service duties between onshore supply bases and offshore drilling sites. The deck area is arranged for transporting pipes and containers while tanks below deck are used to transport fluids including water, oil, mud and brine. The vessel will have accommodation for a crew of thirty people.

PSV Gets Superstructure Module

The Platform Supply Vessel (NB 126) under construction at Norway's Simek Shipyard has its deckouse module lifted on board The UT 755 LC is a Rolls-Royce design with deck machinery and propulsion equipment designed and manufactured by Rolls-Royce.  It is designed specifically for supplying equipment to oil and gas platforms. The vessel will have an extended hull and larger deck space to increase the capacity for transportation of solid and liquid cargo. Delivery is due mid-July 2012 to owners Duh Boats 2 Partnership C.V.

Topaz Adds OSV to Support BP Contract

Topaz Marine, a division of Topaz Energy and Marine recently acquired the Caspian Provider, an advanced Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), to join the company’s fleet on a four-year contract in Azerbaijan with a value in excess of $40m. The Caspian Provider will be working out of Baku, Azerbaijan, on a contract with oil and gas major BP won by Topaz Energy and Marine, in 2008. The Caspian Provider joins four sister ships already under the management of the Topaz Marine Azerbaijan unit. The Caspian Provider is the fourth vessel delivered to the company after construction in the Simek Yard in Norway.

Rolls-Royce Wins PSV Contract

Rolls-Royce won an order from Norwegian ship builder Simek AS to design and equip a UT755 LC platform supply vessel. The contract includes a fully integrated Rolls-Royce power and propulsion system including main engines, propellers and tunnel thrusters. Deck machinery, electrical systems, automation and control systems and bulk handling equipment are also included in the order. extensive experience building Rolls-Royce designed vessels. The vessel will be built at the Flekkefjord ship yard in Norway, and is due to be completed in the third quarter of 2012.

Offshore shipping companies are increasingly turning to diesel electric propulsion systems as an efficient means of meeting the performance requirements for modern platform supply vessels. Diesel-Electric PSV for Norwegian Firm

In keeping with the growing popularity of diesel-electric DP2 capable platform supply vessels (PSV) Norways REM Offshore based in Fosnav took delivery of the Rem Mermaid in 2008. The 262.5 ft vessels azimuthing stern drives and twin bow thrusters make it capable of operations in DP2 mode. Four Cummins KTA50-(D)M diesel electric units have a total output of 5,164 kW. However the system allows these units to be operated one, two, three or four at a time to maximize fuel savings by matching power with demand. Built at the Norwegian yard Simek A.S.

Farstad Receives Letter of Intent from Norsk Hydro

Farstad Shipping ASA, in co-operation with Stolt Offshore AS, has received a Letter of Intent from Norsk Hydro for a 5 year charter, plus 3 yearly options, for the newbuilding Far Saga, which was deliverd from Simek AS on 31st of October. The vessel, a large platform supply vessel (PSV) of design UT 745 L, will be a part of Stolf Offshore AS' contract with Norsk Hydro for underwater services. Far Saga will operate in a PSV role for Norsk Hydro until necessary outfitting and mobilization for underwater services is carried out. company's largest customers. Farstad Orders Packages From Rolls-Royce

Brazilian state oil company Petrobras has awarded Brazil Offshore Services (BOS) long term charters to operate one vessel under the Petrobras 12 000 contract and another under the Petrobras 15 000 contract. BOS is a Brazilian joint venture company owned 50/50 by Farstad of Ålesund in Norway and Petroserve of Brazil. BOS in turn has selected Rolls-Royce design and equipment packages worth altogether about NOK 270 million for the two vessels. Both will be to the UT 722L design, but specifications vary to suit the two operating contracts, each of which has an eight year period. Estaleiro Itajai in Brazil has been chosen as the builder of these vessels, which will be of a very high standard. Deliveries are scheduled for 2005.

IOS Announce Charter Contracts

P/R International Offshore Services ANS (IOS), which is a 50/50 joint venture between Farstad Shipping ASA and P&O Australia, has contracted two anchor handling support vessels at the Simek AS yard in Norway. Delivery of the vessels will take place in March and July 2003. The vessels are a new type of UT 712 of 12,240 bhp with DP and a double drum 370 tonne winch for employment in international markets. IOS has also entered into a two year time charter with Phillips in Australia for the platform supply vessel (PSV) Far Scotsman commencing April 2002. from Farstad Shipping ASA for a minimum of two years. The Lady Audrey has been fixed for two wells + 2x1 well options to Shell Namibia from early January 2002. Lady Audrey is presently working for Shell in the Philippines.

Rolls-Royce Gets Offshore Vessel Contracts

Rolls-Royce has won contracts worth $76 million to supply design and equipment packages for nine offshore service vessels which will be built in four different shipyards for owners in Brazil, France, Norway and the U.S. The ship designs and packages of Rolls-Royce equipment will be supplied in 2002 and 2003, and the shipyards, located in Brazil, Denmark and Norway are scheduled to deliver the vessels in 2003 and 2004. There are currently 71 offshore service vessels of the type UT-Design from Rolls Royce on order or under construction around the world. Rolls-Royce Gives Go-Ahead to FORAN

In December 2000 Rolls-Royce Marine and SENER signed two linked contracts, one for the evaluation of FORAN V50 during a test period and the other for the license of FORAN on a permanent basis. The contract for evaluation foresaw the installation of FORAN Licenses in Rolls-Royce offices in Ulsteinvik (Norway) and Navis consult (Rijeka, Croatia), together with the corresponding training for the personnel from both offices. After extensive testing, first with FORAN V40, and since October 2001 with V50, Rolls-Royce Marine has taken up the option to use FORAN on a permanent basis, with licenses covering the complete ship design and production capabilities available in FORAN V50. Rolls-Royce offers ship design, ship equipment and integrated system solutions for most types of vessels.

Dina Supplier Marks 100 for UT755

The delivery of Dina Supplier marks the delivery of vessel number 100 of the UT 755 design from Rolls-Royce. While the initial UT 755 design is more than 10 years old, the PSV Dina Supplier is considered to be a modern ship, equipped with the updated technology. Dina Supplier is being delivered to Myklebusthaug Offshore AS (Fonnes, Norway), the owner’s second vessel of the UT 755 LC design, and the sixth delivered from the shipyard Simek AS in Flekkefjord, Norway. Simek has another four vessels of the same type in their order book. “This kind of tonnage is still attractive in the market and the UT 755 series may well be the first offshore vessel design to reach 200”, said Jørn Heltne, Vice President of Rolls-Royce, when the contract for Dina Supplier was signed.

Seabulk Acquires Newbuild PSV

Seabulk International, Inc. has purchased and delivered o the Seabulk Africa, a newbuild UT-755L platform supply vessel (PSV) built at the Simek Shipyard in Norway. The 5,500-horsepower, 236-ft. vessel will join the Company's West African fleet, which presently comprises 42 vessels ranging from crewboats to sophisticated anchor handlers. PSVs are large, multipurpose vessels used to ferry equipment, supplies and personnel to offshore platforms and rigs engaged in the production of crude oil and natural gas. "This is a state-of-the-art vessel and the Cadillac of the industry," commented Hubert E. Thyssen, corporate vice president and senior vice president of marketing for Seabulk Offshore, the Company's offshore vessels subsidiary.

Technology: Rolls-Royce Debuts New UT Designs

Rolls-Royce introduced a pair of new vessels for its popular UT line of vessels, the UT712 and the UT737L. To be built by Soviknes for Island Offshore and delivered in October 2003, the new UT737L, dubbed Island Frontier, takes multi-tasking to dizzying new heights. Under development for almost three years, according to Svein Kleven, Rolls-Royce Marine AS, the design is an evolution of the UT745E, and is particularly notable that it demanded classification society Det Norske Veritas to create a new classification for the type: Ship Shape Well Intervention Unit 1. North Sea condition with wave height of 4.6 m and tidal current of 3.5 knots.
