Imtech Marine Launches Service App

Imtech Marine recently launched a service app, under its service and nav/com brand Radio Holland. The aim of the new app is to facilitate owners and operators around the world to quickly find the nearest Imtech Marine/RH service location for service and maintenance, via their smart phone. The app guides the user to the nearest service location and the user can directly send a service request via the app to the Imtech Marine location. This way quick and easy contact is established, and quick and efficient service can be offered around the globe. The ‘RHServiceNow’ app is available for free at the Windows phone store (for Windows smartphones), in the Google play store (for Android smartphones) and in the iPhone app store.

Stena Line Signs Up for MAN Online Service

MAN Diesel & Turbo recently signed a contract with Stena Line to provide its online service to two vessels. The Stena Hollandica and Stena Britannica are both conventional passenger-and-vehicle superferries that sail the daily route between the Hook of Holland and Harwich and are each powered by 4 × MAN 48/60CR engines. Dan Sten Olsson, CEO and owner of the Stena Sphere, and Bjarne Koitrand, Stena Line Technical Director, visited Augsburg, Germany to meet MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Dr Uwe Lauber, CEO, and Wayne Jones, Chief Sales Officer and agree the new deal.

KVH Industries, Inc. has announced that it is introducing KVH YOURlink, a content delivery service that fleet managers and owners can use to distribute company-produced videos to all vessels in their fleet. The company will be presenting the new service at Nor-Shipping in Lillestrom, Norway, this week. American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) chairman, president and CEO Christopher Wiernicki delivered the commencement speech at Stevens Institute of Technology’s 2017 undergraduate graduation ceremony, where he was also awarded an honorary doctor of engineering degree. Raymarine Navigation Displays Now Stream to Android Devices

Nashua, N.H. – Raymarine announced the release of its Raymarine Viewer app, RayView, for Android tablets and Smartphones. The new app, available now in the Google Play Android store, joins the previously released RayView app for Apple iOS devices, like the iPhone and iPad. China Joins UN Trucking Treaty

China has taken a major step towards establishing a speedy new "Silk Road" to Europe by signing up to a U.N. trucking treaty. Fifteen years after joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), China is hoping a revival of its ancient trading corridor to the west will help boost its slowing economy. Becoming a member of TIR, an international guarantee scheme that will enable Chinese freight containers to travel all the way to Ireland without being opened up for time-consuming customs checks, is a first step towards putting the legal framework of the plan into action. "It's a key element ...for the Chinese government... Smartphones Can Morph Into Satellite Phones

Globalstar says its Sat-Fi instantly turns any smartphone, tablet or computer into a satellite phone or data device. Euronav Inks Fleet-wide VSAT Deal

Antwerp based crude oil tanker company Euronav has signed a deal with Satcom Global for its Aura Ku-Band VSAT service. With Satcom Global Aura on-board, Euronav’s fleet will benefit from a global service that provides guaranteed bandwidth via a generous Committed Information Rate (CIR). The crew will experience significantly enhanced connectivity while business critical applications are supported with ease. During 2017, Euronav undertook a comprehensive series of sea trials using Aura and following excellent results decided to begin a fleet wide rollout of the service.

Safety Alert: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone

This safety alert reminds vessel owners, operators, charterers, merchant mariners, passengers, and all others throughout the maritime domain of safety concerns associated with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone. This alert includes phones recently replaced by manufacturer. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), as of last month there have been at least 92 reports of batteries overheating, including 26 reports of customer burns and 55 reports of property damage. The primary concern is the phone's Lithium-ion battery which stores significant energy. During normal use and charging, devices have overheated and ruptured.

The product provides on-demand multi-lingual content to crew personal devices in an alternative manner to on-board satellite TV. ClassNK Releases Mobile App for PSC Inspection

Classification society ClassNK has released the Arrival Checklist  for PSC, the preparatory checklist mobile app for PSC inspections. Arrival Checklist  for PSC digitalizes the updated contents of ClassNK’s Port State Inspections Pocket Checklist and is now available for smartphones and tablets. Arrival Checklist  for PSC allows users to access the checklist with greater ease and efficiency during preparatory checks of onboard equipment and others prior to arrival into port. The app was developed as a ship management solution to help minimize the risk of PSC detentions and deficiencies. The app categorizes items that are frequently pointed out as deficiencies at PSC inspections by location.

South Korea's April Exports Fall Unexpectedly

South Korean exports declined in April for the first time in 18 months, unable to keep up with 2017’s brisk pace as global demand softened, adding to worries about the country’s trade outlook amid the risk of a deepening U.S-China trade conflict.Exports fell 1.5 percent to $50.1 billion from a year earlier, marking the first decline since October 2016 when shipments fell 3.2 percent, government data showed on Tuesday.
