Dellner to Launch New Braking System at SMM

International brake supplier Dellner Brakes AB said it will launch new range of ‘plug and play’ electrohydraulic braking systems at this year’s SMM in Hamburg.The new BUEL STL systems provide a compact, self-contained solution for stopping, turning and locking ship propeller shafts on vessels of all sizes, as well as for industrial applications. First Mobile MTU Gas Engines for Rederij Doeksen

The first two preproduction units of the new mobile MTU gas engine from Rolls-Royce have completed performance tests and were accepted by the customer at the beginning of December. MTU delivered the first two of a total of four 16-cylinder Series 4000 gas engines, each with an output of 1,492 kW, for two new catamarans. From 2018, the two aluminum vessels will operate ferry services on the Dutch Wadden Sea. They are currently being built by Strategic Marine’s shipyard in Vietnam for the Dutch shipping company Doeksen.

Major Shipping Line Orders MAN B&W-Powered, Multi-Role Vessels

DFDS, the Danish shipping company and one of the world's largest ferry operators, recently signed a contract for the construction of two identical RoRo vessels, each to be powered by two MAN B&W 8S40ME-B9 engines with many extra MAN Diesel & Turbo specifications. Scheduled for delivery in 2012, the ships’ design is tailored towards operation on DFDS’ commercial network, but will also meet parameters laid down by the Danish-German ARK military project for the deployment of military material. Each RoRo will be powered by two MAN B&W 8S40ME-B9 type main engines.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Signs License Agreement at SMM

MAN Diesel & Turbo has signed a four-stroke license agreement with Rong An Power Machinery, a Chinese marine engine manufacturer. Dr. Stephan Timmermann, Executive Board Member MAN Diesel & Turbo, and David Deng, President Rong An, signed the new agreement on behalf of their respective companies on 7 September 2010 in a ceremony at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s stand at the SMM international marine trade fair in Hamburg. Rong An previously signed a two-stroke license agreement with MAN Diesel & Turbo in September 2008.

At SMM 2010 ‘Green’ Technologies Center Stage

Last month MR’s Henrik Segercrantz traveled to Hamburg for an exclusive preview of the SMM 2010 exhibition. The SMM international trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology will take place in Hamburg, Germany, on 7-10 September. This year much focus will be on environment-friendly technologies and products. The supporting program for SMM 2010 will for the first time this year include the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (gmec), and the Offshore Dialogue, which will also look into maritime technologies for offshore mining and wind farms.

Celebrity Honored for First Gas Turbine Cruise Ship

Celebrity Cruises has been honored by Lloyd's List for building the world's first smokeless gas turbine-powered cruise ship. The recognition came during Lloyd's biennial Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology (SMM) International Trade Fair in Hamburg, Germany. The event concluded with the presentation of the Lloyd's List-SMM 2002 Awards. Awards were presented for excellence and innovation in merchant shipbuilding, merchant marine technology and machinery, and naval shipbuilding and marine technology.
