LR Greenlights Canadian Ship Recycling Facility’s Standards Compliance

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has certified Nova Scotia recycling facility, R.J. MacIsaac (RJMI), according to the requirements of the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.RJMI has become first Canadian facility to be issued a Statement of Compliance (SoC) to the Hong Kong Convention for international ship recycling standards, which is scheduled to enter into force in June 2025.RJMI was required to demonstrate that its environmental protection, workforce safety and emergency preparedness systems surpass the stringent conditions of the convention.

LR Certifies MARSIG’s Electronic Record Book Platform

Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) said it has awarded statement of compliance (SOC) certification to German marine engineering specialists MARSIG for its searecs electronic record book. The platform offers an electronic alternative to hardcopy logbooks and unifies the extensive collection of documents used on board a vessel into one logbook including bridge, engine, ballast water, oil and cargo records.The move toward electronic logbooks has been embraced by regulators as a much more effective way of monitoring this crucial information.

EU Ship Recycling Regulations Deadline Approaching

New European ship recycling regulations enter into force at the end of the year, but many shipowners have yet to comply. The EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EUsRR) stipulates that all ships over 500 GRT which call at EU ports must have a Statement of Compliance (SoC) demonstrating that they have an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) on board. Current difficult market conditions, compounded by delays caused by the work-from-home situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, has meant many are still to undertake the necessary work to enter compliance.

Ulstein Retrofits HMC Vessel to HLV

PHP Ship Recycling Facility Gets ClassNK Stamp

ClassNK has issued a Statement of Compliance (SoC) to PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited (PHP), a ship recycling facility in Chattogram (Chittagong), Bangladesh, verifying that the facility is in line with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009 (HKC).While ClassNK has so far issued 34 Statements of Compliance to ship recycling facilities around the globe, this is the first one issued by the Society to a facility in Bangladesh.

FESCO Adds New Container Ship

FESCO Transportation Group, the largest intermodal transport operator in Russia, announced that a new container ship of ice class  ESCO Moneron has recently joined the fleet.The national flag of the Russian Federation was raised on the ship on 21 November 2019.Container ship with a capacity of 822 TEU will be operated on FESCO Magadan cabotage service (FML), that already includes FESCO Magadan sister ship, purchased last year, and FESCO Posyet universal bulk carrier.FESCO Moneron container ship is planned to be put on the line in the end of 2019 or in the beginning of 2020 at the latest.Arc4 ice class of the vessel complies with the standards needed for work in the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk in winter. Singapore offshore company Swiber Holdings' wholly-owned subsidiary, Swiber Offshore Construction (SOC) has entered into a shareholder's agreement with Hilong Marine Engineering (HME) to establish a joint venture company in Singapore.The shareholders (51% Hilong and 49% Swiber) have named the new company – Ocentra Offshore. IJmuiden Sea Lock Getting Ready

The construction activities on the site of the new sea lock in IJmuiden are in full swing, said Port of Amsterdam.More than 200,000 m3 of concrete have now been poured and still more will be poured in January and February, including concrete for the inner lock head (number 1 in the picture) and for the lock chamber (number 3 in the picture).Also in January and February, work will continue on the completion of the lock gates and on the local control buildings - which are now taking shape (numbers 4 in the picture).After a 44-day voyage from South Korea via Cape of Good Hope, the lock gates for the new sea lock finally arrived in the Netherlands on 6 December.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. said it launched on August 15, 2016 the final vessel in a series of four Z-Tech Class Terminal & Escort Tugs being constructed for Suderman & Young Towing Company. The tug Poseidon is scheduled to be delivered later in 2016. Transnet National Port Authority women flew the flag high at the Women in Transport Awards which took place at the Durban ICC on 18 October 2016. The Women in Transport Awards is a collaborative platform co-located with the African Ports Evolution conference and exhibition, and is dedicated to recognising excellence within the rail and maritime industry in Africa. The prestigious awards ceremony was attended by a number of decision makers, business leaders and various stakeholders from the transport and maritime industry, with Deputy Minister of Transport Lydia Sindisiwe Chikunga delivering the keynote address.
