SSI Launches ShipConstructor 2015 R2.1

SSI has today released ShipConstructor 2015 R2.1 software. The software release comes in response to emerging ship design, engineering and building trends as identified by SSI’s Client Council of industry leaders. The advisors on this software launch were representatives from U.S. and Canadian companies: Genoa Design, Glosten & Associates, Gunderson Marine and Trinity Marine Products. This group has similar production methods and/or design approaches. A different set of advisors from Europe provided input into the previous Client Council release last year.

Raytheon Anschütz Enhance Bridge INS

German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz says it has launched a new Synapsis software release and hardware infrastructure, which will further enhance the bridge alarm management and add new features and capabilities to the Integrated Navigation System (INS). Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control is the world’s first Integrated Navigation System (INS) which complies with the IMO Performance Standards MSC.252(83) and IEC 61924-2. About two years after product launch, over 100 Synapsis systems have been contracted and more than half of them are already in operation. “The new Synapsis includes main functional enhancements which affect bridge alarm management (BAM) and target management.

Globe Wireless R6 for Globe iFusion Launched at Posidonia

Globe Wireless is a leading player in providing communications, operational and IT solutions to the maritime industry. Earlier this summer at Posidonia 2012 in Athens the company announced that it would launches its latest software release, R6 for Globe iFusion in  July 2012; a free upgrade to all existing users. Industry Collaborates with ShipConstructor

"ShipConstructor's software is widely used at U.S. shipyards so it was natural for our industry group to collaborate with them," said Don Sauvage of Northrop Grumman. ShipConstructor has recently completed a series of meetings with US shipbuilders and design firms regarding methods for enhancing Design for Production (DFP). These meetings have been part of a project funded by the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) involving Northrop Grumman (Avondale & Pascagoula), Bollinger Shipyards, Marinette Marine, VT Halter Marine, as well as Genoa Design.

The world's marine insurers collectively lost $3 billion in 1999, Norway's Central Union of Marine Underwriters (CEFOR) said. Cefor's calculation uses the collective experience of marine insurers in Norway - one of the world's major marine insurance markets - and extrapolates the results to the global industry. Cefor's md said that not even in their previous worst case estimates did CEFOR anticipate anything like this. The principal reason for the losses is continuing reduction in insurance premium rates, said Formso. On CEFOR's current estimates, rates in 2000 have dropped to 31 per cent of their 1994 levels. Specialties Cornerstone of Canadian Market

The past decade was a tough one for the Canadian shipbuilding market. It was a decade that produced a decline of both employment and decline of newbuilds, many of which were contracted in the late 1980s still awaiting construction. This unfinished business was concentrated mostly on various military projects that had been thought out but were never actually followed through. It is estimated that by the time the 1990's came to a close that Canadian yards had experienced the worst decade since postwar times with total sales declining by about 50 percent since 1991. In addition, total employment in the industry has broken off by about 50 percent from 12,000 workers in 1990 to today's figure of 5,000.

Software Offers New Features

International Communications and Navigation Limited, provider of marine electronic navigation and DGPS services has released new versions of its electronic charting system software - Aldebaran II and Regulus II for the Windows NT operating system. An upgrade to the company's ECS software, Release II provides many new features such as the ability to read multiple electronic charts, store and display routes and voyages, and adjust light levels. The product, which is expected to be released this month, is - as with the company's previous releases - Y2K compliant.
