Suez Canal to Offer Ships Bunkering and Catering Services
Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone will offer new services to ships including fueling and catering from the first quarter of 2023, state media quoted a Suez Canal official as saying on Friday.The new services will be offered at Port Said and Suez in the northern and southern regions of the canal respectively, the official was quoted as saying, while as many as 20 to 25 services will be available for ships transiting Sokhna Port, including medical evacuation and marine supplies.(Reuters - Reporting by Moaz Abd-Alaziz, Editing by Louise Heavens, Kirsten Donovan)

Egypt Closes Eight Ports Due to Bad Weather
Egypt has closed eight ports owing to bad weather, officials said on Monday.The ports of Port Tawfiq, El-Zayteyat and Sharm El Sheikh were shut early Monday morning, the Red Sea Ports Authority said.The ports of Adabiya, Ain Sokhna, Port Said West, Port Said East and Al Arish were also shut later on Monday, a statement from the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone said.The ports are expected to re-open as soon as weather conditions imporve, the statement said.(Reporting by Yusri Mohamed and Amal Abbas Writing by Sarah El Safty Editing by David Goodman and Jane Merriman)
China Constructs New Terminal in Suez Canal
China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) began the main phase of the construction of a new terminal basin in Sokhna Port south of the Suez Canal northeast of Egypt, said he state media Xinhua.According to the report, the project was assigned to CHEC by the Sokhna branch of the Emirati corporation DP World, the main investor and container operator in the port located at the Gulf of Suez.CHEC sources said it will deliver the "Basin 2" project in fewer than 12 months ahead of the deadline.The report quoted Chen Shuang, deputy director of CHEC marketing department as saying that the launching ceremony event held on Tuesday (August 29) wass to show their determination to finish the project quickly and with high quality.Sokhna Port is located within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone)…
DP World to Develop Egypt Port Terminal
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed by DP World, Egypt’s Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport and the Suez Canal Authority is aiming to develop a new Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Egypt’s 6th of October City, a satellite town in the Giza Governorate and part of the urban area of Cairo. The three partners will bid for the government contract for the project later this year. The proposed ICD will increase the flow of cargo between ships and major land transportation networks in the country, creating a central distribution point. Under the MoU, DP World will lead and represent the alliance in the bidding process and become the ICD operator if the tender is won.
DP World Sokhna Welcomes Largest Bulker to Enter the Red Sea
DP World Sokhna recently welcomed the largest bulk cargo vessel to ever arrive to the port and enter the Red Sea, said a press release from the company. Known as a capesize vessel, the M/v Seafarer originally came from Malta carrying steel cargo weighing more than 140,000 MT. Prior to its arrival, DP World Sokhna conducted a bathymetric survey of the port’s topography to ensure its depth relative to sea level was adequate to receive vessels of this size. DP World Moves Ahead with Suez Canal Industrial Zone
Dubai-based ports operator DP World has inked an agreement with the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to launch the first phase of an integrated industrial and residential zone in Sokhna. The framework agreement, which establishes a clear timetable of actions required to execute the first phase of the project spanning 30 square kilometres, was signed by Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World and Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). This follows the signing of a partnership agreement at a ceremony in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum in November last year.

DP World Forms JV with Egypt’s Suez Canal
DP World, has formed a joint venture (JV) company with Egypt’s General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The new venture will see the global terminal operator assist in developing projects in the SCZone, the main trade route between Europe and Asia, serving more than 8% of annual global trade. The new venture will develop projects in the Suez Canal Zone, one of the most promising trade zones given the calibre of its logistics facilities and its strategic location. The announcement of the joint company came during Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's meeting today with DP World Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, and the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Mohab Mamish.
DP World, Egypt on Expansion of Sokhna Port
DP World and Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) have is planning to increase the capacity of Egypt’s Sokhna port located south of Suez Canal, off the Red Sea coast, Egypt’s official State Information Service reported. DP World’s chief executive Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and GAFI CEO Mohamed Khodair have discussed the next phase of development in Ain Sokhna. The development will increase the capacity of Sokhna port, which sits south of the Suez Canal on the Red Sea on a maritime trade route from Asia to the Middle East and beyond. Sultan bin Sulayem cited Egypt's strategic location and other assets as drivers of investment and international trade in the coming period. The majority of Egypt-bound cargo from the east is imported via Sokhna.
DP World, SCA Pact for Ain Sokhna Port Development
Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Red Sea Ports Authority signed an agreement with Dubai Ports World (DP World) and Sonker Bunkering Company for the development of Egypt’s Ain Sokhna seaport, reports Egypt Independent. The signing of the deal comes in line with directives by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to upgrade the sea port’s status as part of the broader scheme to develop the Suez Canal region, SCA chief Mohab Mamish said. The joint venture will be responsible for installing a new harbor parallel to the current oil tanker harbor over a period of one year, Mamish said. He added that the undertaking would facilitate the exchange of petrochemical and gas products.
ASE Receives $8.5 M Order from Egyptian Port
American Science and Engineering, Inc. (ASE) announced an order for X-ray inspection systems from the private Port of Sokhna, which is owned by Egyptian Container Handling Company and operated by Sokhna Port. The Port of Sokhna is a new commercial port and industrial complex on the strategically vital Red Sea, located a short distance from Cairo. The order includes AS&E's new high-energy Shaped Energy(TM) system for sea container inspection, as well as two parcel X-ray systems for small cargo moving through the port. This order comes on the heels of a major drug seizure generated by an AS&E MobileSearch(TM) system deployed at the Port of Nueibaa, Egypt.
Evergreen, Cosco and Hapag-Lloyd Integrate Red Sea Services
Evergreen, together with its joint service partners Hapag-Lloyd and Cosco Container Line, is to merge its two Red Sea services, the Far East - Red Sea (FRS) service and the Strait - Red Sea Express (SRX) service, into a single new FRS service linking China, South East Asia and the Red Sea. The first sailing on the revised schedule will be made by Evergreen's LT Going, expected to sail from Nansha on November 7. While the two existing services use ships of approximately 1600 – 1800 TEU, the new FRS service will utilise six vessels of around 2700 TEU, four of which will be provided by Evergreen and one each from the other two partners. The port rotation is as follows: Nansha - Hong Kong - Shekou - Singapore - Tanjung Pelepas - Aden - Jeddah - Aqaba - Sokhna Port - Singapore - Nansha.
