Kalmar STS for Curaçao Port Services

Kalmar, part of Cargotec has signed a contract for supplying two Kalmar Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, including related spare parts, to Curaçao Port Services, said a press release.The Panamax size cranes will be used for modernising the customer's container handling operations at the Willemstad Container Terminal in Curaçao. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and the delivery is planned to be completed by the end of 2019. The island of Curaçao is located strategically in the Southern Caribbean approximately 35 miles off the northwestern coast of Venezuela. The Port of Willemstad is the main and largest port of the island. Currently, Curaçao Port Services B.V.

Floating Docks Arrive at Damen's Curaçao Yard

Two floating docks have completed their 26-day voyage across the North Atlantic to Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) in the southern Caribbean.The larger of the two is a Panamax-class dock measuring 230 meters by 45 meters for tankers, containerships and other large vessels, while the smaller dock measures 108 meters by 23 meters for all kinds of tugs, workboats and offshore support and anchor handling vessels.The two docks were delivered by the heavy-lift carrier Xin Guang Hua to the Port of Willemstad, Curaçao on April 26, following a trip with more than its share of bad weather.

US Charters Cruise Ship to House Hurricane Relief Workers

The U.S. government has chartered another commercial cruise liner to serve as a floating hotel for relief workers in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria. Carnival Cruise Line said it reached an agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that will see the 2,052-passenger vessel Carnival Fascination docked in St. Croix to provide housing and meals for relief workers during a four-month charter from October 15 to February 3, 2018.

Washington Sells Its Oldest Ferry

Washington State Ferries (WSF) has sold its oldest ferry, Evergreen State, for $300,000 to Jones Broadcasting, LLC., who plans to use the 63-year-old vessel for ferry service in the protected waters of the southern Caribbean. “The Evergreen State is a special ferry. It was the first vessel custom built for Washington State Ferries in 1954,” said Ferries Chief of Staff Elizabeth Kosa. The first of the three Evergreen State class auto/passenger ferries, the 87-car, 854-passenger Evergreen State features surplus drive motors from World War II.

On the November 25, 2016 Europe Technologies Group signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Shipbuilding and Repair Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited in Nantes, France. This Trinidad-based ship repair arrangement with the expert guidance of the Europe Technologies Group will provide both project management and skilled personnel in organizing the working party with the ship-owner, the shipyard, the technology owner (which has around 310 LNG carriers equipped with its technologies)…

Couple Found Dead Aboard Cruise Ship

Two passengers were found dead on a cruise ship docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Thursday morning in an apparent murder-suicide. The unidentified man and woman were in their 50s and from Cleveland, Ohio, AP reports quoting police Sgt. Ricardo Cruz. Cruz said blood was found in the cabin aboard the Ryndam, but it was unclear how the couple died. "We don't know yet whether an object was used or what the motive was," he said. Holland America Line said two guests were found dead inside their stateroom on the ms Ryndam at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Local authorities are also reporting that the deceased man and woman were discovered inside a cabin when the ship—the ms Ryndam—docked in historic Old San Juan.

Starting November 15, 2014, Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas begins homeporting at Port Canaveral through March 2015, offering a new nine-night itinerary that reaches further into the southern Caribbean with stops in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, and Haiti. Other itinerary options include four-, five-, and eight-night Caribbean cruises. “We are pleased that Royal Caribbean continues to provide innovative ships and diverse itineraries for our community, Orlando and other central Florida residents and visitors,” said Port Canaveral CEO John E. A review of the ferry industry’s latest challenges and opportunities attracted a record 340 delegates to Vancouver last week for the 39th annual Interferry conference. The global trade association event exposed a string of concerns – notably over punitive safety and environmental regulations – but also highlighted the financial potential of new routes, onboard shopping incentives and the use of LNG fuel. Alongside sessions on the future of the industry, Canada-based CEO Len Roueche outlined a vision for maintaining Interferry’s influential lobbying role among politicians and regulators.

Holland America Line Offers Diverse Options in Premium Cruising

Travelers looking for an intimate, mid-sized cruise experience in the Caribbean have 126 itineraries to choose from during Holland America Line’s 2014-15 Caribbean season. well as partial transits of the Panama Canal. The diverse itineraries visit 30 ports and give discerning guests more options than any other premium line exploring the region. From October 2014 through April 2015, ms Eurodam, ms Maasdam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Noordam, ms Ryndam, ms Westerdam and ms Zuiderdam sail regular Caribbean voyages, while ms Amsterdam and ms Prinsendam each sail one December holiday cruise in the region. Jeff Lantz to Address Upcoming Interferry Annual Conference

The conference organizers inform that In a further response to the sinking of the South Korean ferry 'Sewol' in April, safety issues will be centre stage at Interferry’s 39th annual conference, which takes place in Vancouver from October 4-8, 2014. Prompted by the incident, the trade association is already in dialogue with the IMO about assisting in efforts to improve domestic ferry safety. Now these and other cooperative safety initiatives will feature in a wide-ranging conference agenda addressing the industry’s major regulatory, commercial and technical challenges. The IMO’s latest safety strategy will be examined by special guest speaker Jeff Lantz, US Coastguard regulations director and chairman of the IMO Council.

Massport Launch 2013 Cruise Season

With Friday’s Bermuda sailing of the Norwegian Dawn, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) launches the 2013 cruise season at Cruiseport Boston’s Black Falcon Terminal in South Boston. New this year, Massport is offering travelers free wireless Internet access at the cruise terminal to meet traveler’s expectations to be mobile enabled. More than 80% of vacation travelers bring at least one device, such as a smartphone, e-reader or laptop with them on vacation and 65 percent of travelers have used free wifi in an accommodations lobby or common area, according to a national electronics retailer. Cruiseport Boston’s free wifi service is supported by advertising and sponsorship programs.

SPT Expands Caribbean Ship-to-Ship Oil Transfer Service

Houston based SPT Inc., specialists in ship to ship (STS) transfer (lightering) of crude oil and liquefied natural gas has announced expansion of its STS service for oil majors and traders in the Caribbean. SPT Inc's President Simon Duncan has signed an initial deal with Cayman Island’s Premier Bush to revive crude oil lightering offshore Cayman Brac. This follows new ship to ship transfer capability announced last year in the Bahamas for SPT, building on its permanent ship to ship transfer location in its southern Caribbean base at Aruba. The details of the Cayman arrangements have not yet been finalised, but promise to aid Cayman Brac’s economy with the port benefiting from the additional commerce that visiting ships generate such as replenishment of stores and services.

Aegean Takes Delivery of Bunkering Tanker

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. (NYSE:ANW) announced on Jan. 7 that it has taken delivery of the Naxos, a 4,600 dwt double-hull bunkering tanker newbuild from Fujian Southeast Shipyard in China. The vessel is expected to be deployed to the Company's Singapore market. E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President, commented, "We are pleased to take delivery of the Naxos, which represents our eleventh bunkering tanker newbuilding since going public in December 2006. By successfully increasing our delivery capacity, we expect to further strengthen our position to meet the strong demand for marine fuel and continue to grow sales volumes.

Hornblower Contract for Trinidad Ferry Fleet

Hornblower Marine Services (HMS) announced that the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), a Trinidad and Tobago state owned enterprise, has awarded HMS the contract for the Trinidad passenger fast ferry fleet in the southern Caribbean. “The Water Taxi Project of the National Infrastructure Development Company is intended to reduce traffic on the heavily traveled North-South corridor between Trinidad's two largest cities,” said Hornblower Vice President of Operations Gary Seabrook. “The service is commuter-oriented and will begin operations with four high-speed passenger vessels with four additional vessels added over the next two years as other routes are included to the service. The Adventure of the Seas, newbuilding 1346, was delivered at Kvaerner Masa-Yards’ Turku shipyard. Adventure of the Seas is the third cruise ship in the Voyager-class for Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. The first two ships, Voyager of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas, were deliver in October 1999 and September 2000, respectively. The series continues with NB-1347, Navigator of the Seas and NB-1348. Adventure of the Seas has a gross tonnage of 137,300, and a passenger capacity of 3,800 passengers, a crew capacity of 1,200 persons, giving a total number of 5,020 people onboard. In addition to the total length of 1020ft., the breadth of 126 ft at waterline level and her height of 237 ft. This Post-Pamamax size has allowed for unique design feature and interior solutions.

Electronics: Royal Caribbean Stays Current with C-MAP CM-93/3 ECs

The C-MAP CM-93/3 global electronic chart database helps Royal Caribbean Intl. vessel operators to ensure smooth, safe sailing whether cruising the icy waters of Alaska, or the warm currents of the Southern Caribbean tropics or through the Panama Canal. Arnolf Remo, captain of the Adventure of the Seas, said "Since early 2003 we have been using the C-MAP system on the Adventure of the Seas. Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas Arrives in N.Y. Harbor

A clear, sunny Saturday afternoon of November 10, set the stage for the arrival of the first passenger ship into New York Harbor following the September 11 terrorist attacks. The vessel, Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas, sailed into New York for a two-day tribute cruise for the families of the fallen firemen and police officers who were victim to the devastation at the World Trade Center. Royal Caribbean also plans to donate $50,000 to the Twin Towers Relief Fund. The 142,000-ton Adventure of the Seas - sister ship to Voyager and Explorer of the Seas - was christened at Pier 88 and named by representatives of the New York Police Department and New York Fire Department.

Carnival Repositions Carnival Legend

Carnival Cruise Lines' new 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend will operate a series of eight-day "exotic" Caribbean voyages from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nov. 10, 2002 - April 19, 2003, marking the first time the line has deployed a brand new ship to that port. Originally, this program was scheduled to operate from Miami. Carnival Legend's new Fort Lauderdale-based schedule is the line's first long-term cruise program from that port in more than a decade. Eight-day southern Caribbean cruises will visit St. City, Belize; Limon, Costa Rica; and Colon, Panama. Carnival Spirit, in November 2001. vessels to visit exciting destinations previously available only on longer length voyages.

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Award Conservation Grants

The Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises Ocean Fund awarded $796,000 on March 30 in 15 new grants to marine conservation and environmental organizations, including a $100,000 grant to The Conservation Fund for its Alaska land preservation program and a $100,000 grant to Conservation International for its campaign to conserve Caribbean biodiversity. Almost $9 million has been awarded to 64 non-profit organizations working to protect the marine environment since the fund’s inception in 1996. The mission of the Ocean Fund is to support efforts to restore and maintain a healthy marine environment, minimize the impact of human activity on this environment, and promote awareness of ocean and coastal issues and respect for marine life.

New Coast Guard Base to Cost $59.5m

The Barbados Coast Guard will soon be able to take up residence in its new base on Spring Garden, a project that is costing the government $59.5m. Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Reverend Joseph Atherley revealed this, while speaking at the St Ann’s Fort during the 27th Anniversary parade of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF). Saying that the base will be outfitted with the most cutting edge equipment, the Minister noted that this base must serve as a hub in the Southern Caribbean. Additionally the new base will allow the berthing of larger naval and Coast Guard vessel from regional and international partners.
