Soncini Returns to Help Lead Maritime IT Company

Giampiero Soncini, former officer of the Italian Navy and a retired leader in the maritime IT sector, returns to the helm via his appointment as MD of Oceanly, a new company established in December by Esa Group, following its acquisition from Arribatec of a business unit, formerly of IB srl, which develops and supports "Performance", a software dedicated to the monitoring of ship performance and the control of related emissions.To fuel the growth, Oceanly will have two MDs; alongside Soncini

Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Verifavia Shipping claimed success in the independent certification of IT systems and solutions designed to support compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS) regulation and European Union (EU) Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV).With both regulations now in force, increasing numbers of IT systems are available to assist ship owners and operators in collating and reporting emissions data, all of which need to strictly adhere to the relevant legal requirements."More than 30 of these systems have now been certified or are currently undergoing certification by Verifavia," the emissions verification company for the transport sector (aviation and shipping) said in a press release.According to the release

Helm Operations Joins Volaris Group

The marine software developer looks to accelerate growth with new backing from global technology firm.Marine operations software company Helm Operations has been acquired by Toronto-based Volaris Group Inc. (“Volaris”). Volaris specializes in strengthening and growing technology companies and is a leader in the marine software space. Founded in 1999, Helm Operations is widely known as a developer of marine operations software for the workboat market. Following an acquisition by ClassNK in 2014, the company released its newest platform, Helm CONNECT, in 2016, reportedly achieving measurable growth in just two years. Caterpillar, SpecTec Optimize Ship Maintenance

Caterpillar Marine Asset Intelligence has announced a new project with maintenance management specialist SpecTec focused on optimizing ship maintenance. This joint accomplishment aims to reduce ship maintenance costs by enabling unnecessary maintenance to be deferred for shipboard equipment that is operating properly and identifying potential issues for action before a failure negatively impacts operations. By means of the integrated solution, onboard sensor data that is automatically gathered and analyzed by the Cat Asset Intelligence onboard predictive analytics platform

Sovcomflot Completes IT Integration Project

PAO Sovcomflot (“SCF Group”), Russia’s largest shipping company and a global leader in seaborne energy transportation and offshore services, announced the completion of a major IT integration project with the support of SpecTec. The project provides SCF Group with access to the latest enterprise management systems, enabling organizational efficiency to be improved, costs to be reduced and facilitating compliance with the latest regulations impacting upon shipping companies. One of the most complex and advanced IT projects ever undertaken within the shipping industry, this project involved the databases of all 143 vessels within SCF Group’s fleet. Each deliverable under the project having to be deployed successfully on each of the Group’s vessels, requiring great attention to detail.

BIMCO Declares Winners of Its 2015 Awards

Last night in Hamburg, BIMCO President Philippe Louis-Dreyfus chose to give public recognition to all seafarers who have been – and still are – involved in rescuing people in distress at sea. Mr. Louis-Dreyfus awarded the BIMCO President’s Award to Columbia Shipmanagement Hamburg, for their “outstanding” work in rescue operations involving migrant boats in the Mediterranean. He asked Captain Horber from Columbia Shipmanagement to accept the award on behalf of their crews, but also on behalf of all seafarers who risk their lives in rescue operations. Shipdex Course Held at Korean Maritime University

The Korean Maritime University (KMU) and the Korean Marine Electronics Industry Promotion Association  (MEIPA) received a one day technical seminar about Shipdex and  the process of importing Shipdex data into SpecTec’s  Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), AMOS. This seminar was held at  KMU in Busan on May 30 thanks  to Yung-Ho Yu, Professor at KMU and Technical Director of MEIPA; Marco Vatteroni,  SpecTec’s  ILS Manager and Shipdex Manager; and Ben Fan, SpecTec’s Sales Director in Asia.

Pompe Garbarino Manuals Available in Shipdex

Pompe Garbarino S.p.A., an Italian manufacturer of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps for marine, naval and industrial fields prepare and release the technical manuals according to Shipdex Protocol . Shipdex is the customization for the shipping community of the international S1000D specification already in use for about 30 years in the naval, land and aerospace military sector and adopted more recently by the Civil Aviation. The first manuals are for the customer Grimaldi and its new Container Ro-Ro ships under construction in Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. The pumps types are the MU series EN 733 horizontal pumps

AMOS for MAN PrimeServ Academy

MAN Diesel & Turbo reinforces its long-standing collaboration with SpecTec Group, selecting AMOS software as assisting training tool to be used at the MAN PrimeServ Academy in Copenhagen. With the intent to further improve its hands-on training courses, MAN Diesel & Turbo has chosen AMOS (CMMS platform owned and provided by SpecTec Group since 1985) as a teaching tool to show students how to manage and optimize the process of maintenance, inspection and spare part purchase on board vessels. The AMOS database for this project has been created automatically by importing MAN Diesel & Turbo engine data which is standardized in accordance with the Shipdex protocol (www.shipdex.com).

ABS Nautical Systems will release in 2013 a new mobility platform for its NS5 Enterprise.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands. Currently in development for release in 2013 are a mobility platform, a new warehouse and inventory management module, as well as a new Hull Inspection 3D module. The mobility platform supports portable devices including scanners, tablet PCs and smartphones. Features will include alert view notifications and mobile calendaring. Any customer with mobility support within the organization’s infrastructure can take advantage of this upcoming technology.

Amos Shanghai Project Makes Strides

Shanghai based SpecTec office announces the successful signature of AMOS installation project to Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping Co. Ltd (referred to as JJ Shipping herein). The collaboration agreement was started in 2012, with an initial AMOS installation order of 8 ships. The installation project is about Maintenance, Purchase and Stock Control AMOS module: a user friendly application of AMOS Software aimed at centralizing the maintenance and purchase orders within the fleet, displaced in the different areas all around the world, and connected to the Company’s Head Office. The module keeps the Ships’ Stock items under control as well, guaranteeing a saving on purchase costs. SpecTec will install AMOS software on the 8 ships, scheduled for 2013.

SpecTec Opens a New Office in Poland

SpecTec Group is proud to announce the new opening office of SpecTec Poland. SpecTec Poland is a Product Development office and it opened on 2nd November 2012. The SpecTec Poland team is working on AMOS2 development, IDEA development and on testing activities of AMOS2 EMS. DNV’s Hull Integrity System Now Integrated with AMOS

DNV and AMOS system supplier SpecTec have launched an all-in-one planned inspection and maintenance system for ship structures. AMOS is a system that crew and management are already familiar with, and in combination with DNV’s Hull Integrity Management system, the software’s accessibility further simplifies inspection planning, reporting and monitoring. The new combined application uses the DNV vessel-specific hull inspection forms and procedures that come as part of the Hull Integrity Management (HIM) system. The easy-to-use software has unique 3D inspection and reporting functionality that helps with the early detection of defects so they can be dealt with before they lead to costly off-hire time.

SpecTec Continues to Grow in Middle East

SpecTec in The Middle East has announced the signing of a first contract with Mubarak Marine LLC. The contract which was agreed early in July is for the supply of AMOS2 Software. It includes one full office installation for the Mubarak Marine’s headquarter in Dubai and five Vessel installations. The software is expected to be installed onboard five Offshore Tugs vessels, in order to reduce operational complexity related to the Planning Maintenance System, help decrease the costs of the Procurement actions and give the due IT support to Dry Dock operations. Database consultancy is to be provided by the technical staff of SpecTec in the Middle East.

Efstathiou New Executive Director at Spectec

SpecTec has appointed Evan Efstathiou as Executive Director of SpecTec Americas. Mr. Efstathiou has worked in Veson Nautical as the Director of Client Services for over 3 years, and he has cooperated with SpecTec in many projects, including one that was highly successful signed with Hyproc. Evan has graduated from MIT and Harvard School of management and worked the last 11 years in the Maritime and Oil&Gas worlds.  His role as Executive Director will be primarily to boost the SpecTec business in the whole of the American continent and promote high level businesses.

COSL Installs AMOS Software

China Oilfield Services Limited COSL) has agreed a deal to implement the fleet management software AMOS  from SpecTec Asia Pacific East Ltd across three units of its fleet. The two parties have signed a contract which includes the supply of AMOS software suite, databases and associated consultancy services. AMOS is going to be installed onboard a 3000 meter semi-submersible drilling platform (COSL 981), delivered in 2011,  as well as onboard two jack-up drilling rigs (HYSY936 and HYSY942). COSL is the leading integrated oilfield services provider in the offshore China market. Its services cover each phase of offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production.

One of the main issues when dealing with remote Databases, is the replication of data from the remote site to the office site. SpecTec has always been extremely specialized in Replicating Databases, and was the first one to invent a methodology which would replicate only data which had changed, while most competitors would replicate entire data files. With time and with the advent of SQL Databases, Data Replication has become a hot issue: we needed to allocate maximum local flexibility while allowing Data integrity to be maintained.
